We knew it was going to happen one day. Phil Ivey promiised to return to poker games and now he has returned to World Series of Poker festival as well. After all these tournaments made him one of the best known pokerr players in the whole world!
There are not too many players who attract so much attention in the community as Phil Ivey. He raised a lot of comments yet again as he officially returned to World Series after two-year break (in 2016 Ivey joined the Main Event only).
Players were expecting that to happen as Ivey announced such plans during Triton Poker High Roller Series (where he won one event, and got to the final table of another one!). There were many rumours that he was going to play in Las Vegas.
"I want to play more events and I informed about it at the beginning of this year. I intend to play World Series of Poker. Short deck, long deck – it all suits me.[/i]
Alas there will be no Short Deck tournaments on this year's World Series of Poker. Perhaps they will be added in the following years? Phil has plenty of other formats to chose from, as we all know he loves more than just No Limit Holdem.
Phil was the day before yesterday in High Roller event for $100,000, that is tournament number 5 of World Series of Poker 2018. Thanks to him the number of entries reached 105. Phil quickly caught a flush in a hand with Stephen Chidwick and his 500,000 stack increased to about 800,000.
Phil then lost most of what he had won and went back to his starting stack. Key hand for him happened with 20,000/40,000/40,000 blinds. There were 27 players left in the game, still 11 to be eliminated if he was planning on cashing here. This time Ivey had a coin flip with Chidwick. Phil had 77. Englishman showed K9.
Flop was quite safe for Phil. It came ATT. Turn was Q. Chidwick caught additional outs to his overcards and one of them came on the river – J. The straight gave Stephen a nice stack and got Phil eliminated.
First event after his comeback was quite short for Ivey, but he still has dozens of events to show his skills. He has registered to another tournament, Mixed Triple Draw Lowball, but failed to advance.
