The challenge between one of the most advanced AI computers on the planet vs poker players is on. And after Round 1 - the bot is leading!

On Wednesday at Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, state of Pennsylvania, four elite heads-up no-limit poker pro players began the latest man vs. machine poker match against Carnegie Mellon University’s world-class bot. Before it was Claudico, this time it’s Libratus.

The poker pros played a combined 2,800 hands (of the scheduled 120,000) over the course of about 8 hours and finished down 75,000 chips (blinds 50-100). The chips have no cash value, but the players competing in the challenge Jason “PremiumWhey” Les, Dong “Donger Kim” Kim, Daniel “Dougiedan678” McAulay and Jimmy “ForTheSwaRMm” Chou stand to win $200,000. Bot creators stand to win respect and financing as well.

Here’s a look at how the game went on Wednesday:

The poker pros play their matches separately, though they can share their thoughts afterwards.

Each battle is live streamed on Twitch, you can find them under those links:

last time there were a few but after it all ended, I remember Poulk figured out a way to exploit Claudico hard with massive riveroverbets against Claudicos capped range it called like 10x bets with TPwK

This seems like it's going to be a big deal for online poker. Poker AI is just going to get stronger and stronger and more available to the masses. Look at AI in chess, any random person with a decent engine can beat any grandmaster on the planet. Not sure what poker sites will be able to do to stop it, especially if it's not an actual bot playing but a person using software in the background.

^ They can do nothing, it's just one more reason why online poker future is not bright at all.

Btw, what stakes play the competitors of Libratus? Are they top 100 players?

Jason Les had a mini meltdown at 6:38pm ha

After losing a big hand
"This is really tough, long hours, not a lot of time to sleep and study....(says the wrong bot hand then says sorry my mistake I am a donk)...we are only 20% done and this is day 4. What the fuck was I thinking"

then says "the bot has no obvious flaws, crushed him the first few days"

I have learned from poker that being at the table is not a grind, the grind is living and poker is how I pass the time
