PokerStars, the world's biggest online poker room, just rolled out a new tournament format named Bubble Rush. The first portion of the event is played in a turbo-charged structure with blinds that increase rapidly, every 3 minutes.
However, as soon as the money bubble bursts, action slows down a lot and the game becomes a little more strategic. Buy-ins range from $0.55 to $33 during the week and up to $109 at the weekend.
At the moment there are more than 20 events each day in the new format, with quite a lot of satellites running before each event.
Players kick off tournaments with 10,000 chips and blinds increase, as mentioned, every three minutes in a hyper-turbo format. Once the bubble breaks blind levels increase to standard times, increasing even further the deeper the tournament progresses.
In the very first Bubble Rush tournament, the $22 Bubble Rush, $10K Gtd, the blind levels jumped from 3 minutes to 12 minutes once the bubble broke after roughly an hour into the event. The 71 remaining players out of the starting 480 player field were left with around 8.5 big blinds on avarage and forced to push/fold. Shortly more than half of the remaining players were gone and avarage stack doubled in a single blind level.
With 27 players remaining, blinds increased to 15 minutes, and with final 9 players left the time jumped again to 20 minutes per level.
Bubble Rush Challenges
To help promote the launch of Bubble Rush, from now until August 28, PokerStars introduced Bubble Rush Challenges. Players that opt into the challenge will receive a ticket to the $7,500 Re-Entry Bubble Rush Freeroll the following day at 14:05 ET if they cash in any Bubble Rush tournament.
PokerStars commented on their blog: "No more waiting to reach the fun part, or falling short. You'll be through the bubble and into the money in about an hour. Think of it as bringing the "hurry up and wait" philosophy to the online poker world. "
