Gus Hansen appeared on TV program called "Good Morning Denmark" earlier this week to talk about his life away from poker. This ex-high stakes regular decided to give up poker and move back to his home country “for good”.

In his prime time, Gus was one of the most popular players in the world - with millions of dollars on the line, insane bets and quite the lifestyle, he was the man to watch. Seems that those days are long gone.

According to a report from pokerlobby.gr, Gus Hansen was on the show to take part in a Red Cross campaign where Danish celebrities donated the clothes off their backs to charity. Gus reportedly donated old Full Tilt Poker shirt, which was to add only more to his decision to take a serious break from the game.

In few interviews he also mentioned that he would like to play squash professionally, as he enjoyed the game so much.

According to HighstakesDB, Gus was last time playing the nosebleeds on Full Tilt in late 2014. Hansen stepped away from the platform being down $20.74 million lifetime after playing 1.5 million hands. In addition to that, on PokerStars Hansen dropped $1.38 million over almost 64,000 hands.
Hansen explained that his downswing was the result of extremely poor table selection and a “tilt” being according to him “about the worst in the world.”
However, he was a big winner in tournaments and live games: Hansen won roughly $10 million from just tournaments, which include 3 WPT wins.

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

He was getting paid monthly with Full Tilt player funds. As was ivey, ferguson and every other full tilt pro. Ivey was getting $900k/month and ferguson was getting $2.2 million/month (i saw these figures in a documentary a few years back). Not sure how much hansen used to get, but we were the ones who funded his lifestyle and bankroll.

Nice to see he is honest and can confess he was a tilt monkey. I dont think anybody ever actually thought he was tilting, they just thought he was stupid/insane.

bye now

he can't look himself in the mirror and admit that he isn't a good/winning cash game player. He is using the 'tilt monkey' thing as an excuse, and is actually being completely dishonest in this sense.

Good player is relative. He lost to the same 3 o8 machines (who were on a team living in mexico) over and over for most of the losses. With a little dang PLO spew on the side

he was not a good/winning cash game player AT THE GAMES HE CHOSE TO PLAY (and not at the games he never played and against the opponents he never played with). #relativity
