Brian "Stinger88" Hastings became the first multi-bracelet winner of the 2015 World Series of Poker! Just a week ago we reported that he won his second WSOP bracelet when he managed to take down $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship, where he beat Scott Clements in the heads-up, making $239,518 and almost second that from the prop-bets.

This time Hastings won Event #39: $1,500 Ten-Game Mix, earning $133,403. Unfortunately, we don't know if there were prop-bets involved this time, but this information will probably emerge on the internet forums soon enough!

Hastings commented after the tournament: “I really pride myself on being able to play all of these games well,” Hastings said. “I hope this carries over into the $50K (Poker Players Championship).”

Hastings is also leading the race for the 2015 World Series of Poker player of the year title.

and this is his response

I stopped caring what strangers on the internet said or thought about me many years ago; otherwise I probably would've jumped off the deep end by now. What I do care about is something like this being a major story in the poker world at a time in which the WSOP is in full force and we should be trying to promote and grow the game of poker, rather than drag it through the mud. Think what you want about me, but one thing I have in common with most people reading this is that we love the game of poker and want to be able to play it freely in the comfort of our own homes. I'm moving back to PA soon to play 400/800 mix live and be closer to Sonya's and my parents, and state regulation of online poker would be a nice cherry on top.

I think especially those of us who are professional poker players should be taking steps to try to promote and grow the game, rather than feeling sorry for themselves because Cardrunners was founded, Black Friday happened, everybody is too good now, etc. With enough hard work, I truly believe that just about anyone (at least anyone smart enough to be browsing 2+2) can make a living playing poker in 2015. I think it's unfortunate that certain people have been on bad runs and choose to take their frustrations out outwardly rather than by trying to self improve, but I get it, it's certainly not always easy. I did not turn a profit in 2 of the previous 3 years, but with an improved mindset, an amazing woman in my life, and a strong work ethic, I've gotten my game back to where it needs to be.

This will be my last post in this thread. If you'd like to discuss further with me I'm just a PM away.

Brian

the belief is this:

He feels he had to play under someone else's screen name because poor Brian is well-known, thus VPNing from the US on his own Stinger88 account couldn't be done without Pokerstars being notified immediately. So he broke rules (multi-accounting) so that he wouldn't be caught breaking rules (VPNing)

seems pretty terrible to not deny allegations and talk about growing poker in the same response

I saw this all differently. I see rather that BH is outlining the distinction between cheating and one's right to freely gamble with one's own money (ie American's are locked out of the global player pool). He claims to love the game and also claims the right to play regardless of American law, but also following the story, HAS in fact informed many players that he is playing on other accounts.

His INTENT is not to cheat and win money MA'ing, but rather to play, and the more people he is honest to the more he will suffer from unfair law and regulation.

I do sense a lot of negative and unscrupulous attitude, but it seems quite natural and not significantly malicious (large amounts of money and success at a young age etc.).

Poker is difficult because it is a game of explotation and so the rules with which we must function in are consistently being pushed with no clear limits.

Truly the real issues here are freedom to play poker and infighting within the poker community because of an over-raked and over-regulated game. To be clear I think this is lame, but rather a symptom of real problems. Quite sad that this will be the PR the game gets from a top pro that admittedly had to move back in with his parents.

Maybe the land of "freedom" should regulate poker so people wouldn't be forced to do that. If a system is build unfairly why would one act fair in it ? At some point online gambling will become way too big of a thing for the government to be able to handle with just a ban and will encourage the black market to take over as it is with any other mass product that are banned like drugs. Essentially losing money cause of old moral compasses, well at least a black market online gambling wouldn't potentially increase crime rates

agree

seems like he's just trying to deflect his wrongdoing completely and really probably could care less about the "betterment of the game". the only reason he does is because it effects his bottom line

I didn't really think it was all that big of a deal with him and Isildur thing. Always thought of him as one of the "good guys" in poker. I was wrong.

Sad there are still people out there that value money/gaining EV over integrity

^^ yeah, def respect the hustle

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same

Really its his fault?
Fact is this : current situation is unfair towards all, he found a way to exploit it to play a single tournament yet people are going on a manhunt for him ... wut ?!
I highly doubt he did it to gain an edge, if thats the case then he s an asshole for sure. However what it seems like is the only practical thing one would do in a situation like that. It's almost as if the government is the one creating the moral principles for you people thats fucked up.

A single tournament, what? He had played nosebleeds in both PLO and mix games with that account.

handbanana21   United States. Jun 26 2015 22:35. Posts 3037

he took a calculated risk. Just like everyone else does when they vpn. Dont cry for them when they get caught. (not saying the vpn part is a huge deal. Thats between the person and stars/doj. But the multiaccounting makes me not care of any consequences that come his way)

Gotta give him props for Winning 2 wsop. Because you know the cheating part is kinda low on live especially if he comes from online poker. What I mean is, I don't believe this retarded mantra a lot of ppl seems to be agree with "once a hacker, always a hacker". I'd even like to think it's quite the opposite. And it allows a sharper mind in some case. Oh well... Time will tell I guess.

Shin-il : Yeah it was very very very good for me too. Rekrul : YOU MOTHER FUCKING FUCKING SON OF A BITCH

Well the only reason he multi accounted was in order to VPN. He isn't a random. A decent sized group of people know about and report on his whereabouts on a regular basis. If the Stinger account popped up on Stars while his person was in Vegas wouldn't that be odd? For the people that lost money; you know rule #1 of HSPLO and new accounts. All new multitabling unknowns are Jared Bleznik; these days not so much it might be one of a handful of other top notch regs. It ain't a fish though lol
