This isn't going to be much of a sales pitch cause I'm not really asking for an investment, just a favor. I am looking for a 5 buyin stake to play a live NL100 game in my hometown. If you're even considering possibly staking me then you most likely know me, and therefore know that I was once decent at poker. Never great, certainly not horrible. I made a small profit at NL100 for a while but not enough to go for the poker life. I've spent the last year in college studying psychology, an interest that was sparked when I began studying body language to try and spot tells at live games.

My biggest poker weaknesses were related to a lack of focus over long sessions, difficulty preventing tilt, anticipating other people's play styles and adjusting accordingly, and (in live games) trouble separating out the important body language from the tsunami of movements people make. Over the past year my schooling has focused on the last two, while my personal practice in yoga and meditation has helped with the first two. Now I'm excited to go sit down at a live game and apply these skills. Unfortunately, being a broke student, I can't afford it. Hence why I'm writing this post.

Basically I'm hoping a friend will help me build a live roll. If I crash and burn you'd be absorbing a hit, so it's definitely a risk. If I do well I'd pay back the $500 and then a % of the profit. So very likely not much to be gained either. But you'd be doing a kind thing for a guy who needs to pull in some money. And, I do think I'm much more likely to come out winning, as I definitely have an edge in this game. So there's that too.

Thanks to anyone kind enough to help ^^

i have some advice for you in terms of spotting live tells etc.

generally you don't really need to focus on people when they aren't in a high pressure situations (plz don't be that guy just staring everyone down the entire session). But alwaysss pay close attention to players seeing the flop...that's where you'll get a lot of info. When people look at their cards and the subsequent reactions/actions can also be a huge clue. Hell on occasion the things people say are a hugeee tell (be careful with this one tho) I just remember one night where i couldn't believe my ears...every time he talked weak... he was strong and vice versa. It was the weirdest/most profitable thing ever.

actions before/after big bets/facing big bets is key imo. this is where their natural reactions will come out the most. and those natural reactions are the tells everyone is talking about. Their facial expressions/reactions are another key thing. I remember another night where i spotted a decent/aggressive player's weakness tell..every time he made a bet and he was weak he would clench his teeth. it was barely noticable but it was there. and I ended up raping face.

I hope this helps.

Good to hear you confirm so much, those are all things I have focused on too and I totally agree that those are the right moments to be paying attention to =)

I never smoked and I have a few questions for you. Does your wife smoke? Do you have kids? Finally, how old are you?

Yeah we both smoke on a daily basis. We don't have kids, but smoking will have no effect on whether or not we can have kids. The "infertility" claims are another myth. And when I do have kids I see no reason not to continue smoking - I wouldn't quit drinking responsibly if I had kids, and I won't quit smoking responsibly if I have kids. I'd rather let them learn about responsible use rather than try an "abstinence only" approach - prohibition just doesn't work. Lastly, I'm 27 =)

No time to rewatch that video right now but I saw it a long time ago and my memory is that it was pretty accurate.

Anymore specific questions I'm happy to answer - I've read many books, watched many documentaries, and written papers on several primary-studies of cannabis (you know, those really painful to read scientific papers written by the scientist as soon as he gets his results out of the lab). I am not a complete expert on the topic, but I know a lot more than the general public and I'm happy to help people sort out the truth from the myths.
