here's what i need:
- fastest, most cost effective computer specs out there for use with huge postgres databases, hem ,tn etc
- im going with pure speed of database retrieval/operation etc, but also should be able to handle me running poker/HEM(with stats)/tableninja plus obv LP,msn, skype, media player etc
- im looking at solid state drives as my database/postgres/hem/drive but its just waaaay to small for my budget, so i guess im stuck with a raid setup and mirroring caviar blacks. i just dunno any specific way or computer parts out there in the market that will help increase speed.
- should i splurge on processors and memory? amd is hella cheaper but im not sure if buying branded expensive ram will help, but i do know i need to have like 8gb at least right? will buying a x64 comp help?
- really confused and i need some specific examples from smart computer guys and if possible keep the costs as low as one can, but also recommend higher end stuff as well since i might consider them too. thanks LP

an ssd is prolly gonna give you the best performance boost per $
and 4 gb ram is prolly gonna be good enough for most people so maybe consider taking that money to get an ssd? |

hmm i have no idea actually
i just built a new computer with an 80gb ssd but i dont really keep HHs
i'd think a 128gb would be fine but ask around on hem forums or something to be safe |

yes really you need to have an ssd
your database will easily fit on a 128GB ssd
you can even get a normal (raid) drive for your movies/music/porn and only keep windows, applications and poker HH and DB on the SSD
all modern CPU's will be able to handle a 64 bit OS, get something with 4 cores and it will still be overkill (which is good)
if you're on a budget then you should go for AMD since they have the best price/performance in both CPU and GPU (should you ever play some games on it too)
you don't need more than 4GB of memory now, but you can buy nice memory, but it doesnt have to be over the top
you have me on MSN already I think so you can also just ask more stuff |
