is that redline normal?

terrybunny19240   United States. Feb 27 2010 12:54. Posts 13829

1st 1/2 of redline doomswitch is an honest to god poker doomswitch, 2nd 1/2 of it is some doomswitch but mostly playing aggro maniacs HU and making a lot of mistakes along the way

i guess this means I should start using a stoploss. -5bi per session -10bi for the day I guess should be ok?

wish I would stop sabotaging myself.

The moment you start thinking about results, getting breakeven, or believing that you will be unlucky its time to quit.
For me it depends how much energy I got left from work and how alert I am. Sometimes I have to quit after one bad beat and sometimes I lose 7 BI and I still feel great about my game and it has 0 effect on me.

If you play under the same conditions all the time and care way too much about results then setting a fixed amount should be good, just observe yourself and your mentality after you lose X bi every time it happens.

This completely differs person to person

EDIT: knowing when you are affected and quitting is a really tough skill that needs large amount of practice. A fixed Stop loss will be of a great help if you cant force yourself to assess your mental state and quit at the right time.

we'll see eh

o u augmented your post

yeah there have been plenty of times that I've been down 9bi and still felt great and was objectively playing well (compared to my ability), so I hate to miss out on that but I guess for now I will just do -5bi stoplosses. I really hate stop losses though because then u have to quit fishes.. but meh it would of been a good idea today obv would of saved myself 12bi

Well yeah, but when you are tilted do you really have a huge edge even over the fishes and isn't there a serious danger of total spews like the A7o hand?

I found out that when I am tilting, even with fish at my tables, its almost always +ev to take 5 minutes for some breathing techniques, pushups or whatever allows your mind to clear up and come back refocused and lift your expected winrate instantly even though you will sit out on 2-3 fish.

Plus Poker is no fun with the scary creeping feeling that you can't win a pot and that everybody is lucky and injustice is being made towards you.

And nobody can resist that feeling when they lose X bi in X amount of time, depending on their pain threshold and mindset.

I noticed it's hard to maintain your normal redline when you are running bad, so it dunks.

Nitting it up since 2006

yah, also probably running bad in normal red-line failures, like bluffs getting picked off or getting raised off your hand. plus losing confidence and call/folding or call-call-folding in spots you shouldn't be

Something most definitely changed in your game on hand 18k. Whatever you started doing there change it back because a consistent redline like that doesn't drop without a reason.

its the HU, duno why my hu game is so weak..

I just checked several graphs, like 80% of the redline decline is from playing the bigblind HU.. I really need some help oop HU

also I'm 1300 under EV hu lol, aboveev 6max tho

I mostly never bluff beyond a cbet unless the turn is a great card and I expect to have a fair amount of equity in the pot and I have a pretty steady breakeven/upwards redline. Your redline will die if you fail double barrels, and in HU it happens a lot.

I'm pretty sure if you want to be the more soul-crushing type in HU, you have to consistently be ready to monster people for all 3 streets. From my experience, the two biggest redline killers is the double barrel --> give up river and the c/r flop --> give up some point afterward.

haha I wantto be and I try but every 3rd barrel bluff has beencalled and its beyond me why, I just pick the worst spots I guess. I'm really not afraid to put in 3 barrels.. (see any of my handhistories for verification -_-)
