Let's say there is a situation in poker where it's something like $1 in the pot with a royal flush on the board and you're heads up. You're first to act. If you shove, a call from your opponent will be -EV since he pays more in rake than he will get from the chop.
Do you shove and hope he makes the +EV play so that you can pick up the free pot?
Or, if you check, do you fold if your opponent shoves or do you call out of spite?
I could never fold in this spot, even if a call is -EV. I'd probably lose more from the tilt of letting the guy get away with that.

if u check, the outcome will be neutral or negative. If u push, the outcome will be positive or negative. therefor pushing is the best choice, but you should prolly write that he'll lose more by calling. |

That's not always true because you have to take into consideration the % of times each outcome happens. I think if you shove you will get called almost everytime and if you check it will be checked back almost every time, so shoving is probably the worst choice. |

I think if you shove your opponent won't fold, so its -EV. I'd just check and hope that he's not retarded. if he does shove then its a fold assuming standard rake of like 10% up to $3 or $4 (live its $4, i know stars rakes $3 at 50nl). |

similar to a scientific study actually (where two people would enter a room, one is given $100 and they could both leave the room with the money if they agree on a split of the money. catch is the one given the money makes the offer and he can only make one offer, it's then just accept/refuse for the other person)
basically, people are willing to lose relatively insignificant amounts of money as a measure of spite/revenge against someone they feel is being shady or unfair |
