So when I restarted this blog I promised to grind back to 400nl and stop merely playing the minimum to allow me to be a drunk drug addict. Well after 2 days I went and partied for a week solid. I just really don't have the motivation cos I find 200nl very boring and I don't really need the money and I am very bad at focusiing on the future; delayed pleasure and all that. Anyway, I couldn't find an excuse to go out tonight so I grinded hard. 6.3k hands is a lot for me since I only play 6-8 tables. Here is my graph:

I'm quite pleased with it. At the beginning I got about 6 buyins above ev, and then went on a sudden bad run to two buyins below. Now I know how irrelevant this is, but I am very pleased that my level of play did not deteriorate at all in that little run. I'm now only 8 buyins away from moving up, but I'll probably withdraw maybe a k beforehand. Whatever, I think I'll move up next weekend.
There are some interesting hands from today:
This is a play on the river you just never see other regulars make, but I think it's trivial. Almost his whole range is not calling.

This is a bluff in case it's not obvious. They have very few tens in their ranges and I don't think they can call very often without one imo, and I give myself sick odds.

I didn't get ev lucky today, but it's fair to say I got very lucky to get in many good spots against sick idiots; luckily my image helps these get paid off extra.

explain your river shove in hand 1 please.. What reason did you have to believe that your Queen showdown strength wasn't good enough? I'm assuming it's not for value since you said "almost his whole range isn't calling".
so 1. you don't think your sd value is good enough?
and 2. you don't think he has a flush in his range ever? |

I think my sdv is fine. I could just c/f river hoping to get a showdown, but I decided that it is more profitable to turn my hand into a bluff and shove because I think he only ever calls with a flush which he no way has >30% here. I think he has a flush like 5% or something, it just seemed such a mega profitable spot. |

but if you think you're good at sd wouldn't it be more profitable to check and try to induce? he still has the flush "5%" of the time yet you can get more value if he decides to stab. I'm just not seeing what it accomplishes vs a check unless you think he has you beat sometimes? |

yeah, I think he has me beat sometimes, but not too often. I don't think I can ever c/c the river here (what am I hoping to see, some v weird double float?), so inducing isn't really on the table. I think I'm good here at showdown like 70%, and I think he's folding to the shove maybe 95% (numbers straight out of my arse I know but...). In terms of ev, if those numbers are right, then shoving is the best option. The numbers I pulled out of my arse are I'm sure up for debate, but they were how I assessed the spot at the time. I had a really bad feeling about QK/QJ too if that means anything. |
