Decided to finally buy a gi and start adding it to my training. Spent the day figuring out it's a completely different game when a gi is involved, the extra grip the added control of having sleeves/collars you can grab on to and it was slightly annoying having to readjust my top and belt after each roll cause people kept pulling on it. Surprised me just how much it shrank in the washer it went from an over sized blanket to a solid fit in one wash cycle.

yea gi is way different. i train a decent amount gi. its a lot more technical. i go from being decent no-gi to getting collar choked and controlled like its nobodies business with the gi on. its a pain in the butt but it helps a lot since you cant just power out of shit. people with gorilla grip strength suck ass though lol. you cant do shit against them

in terms of the gi its self.

dont dry it in the dryer. itll keep shrinking. wash it on cold and then hang dry that shit.

wash gi after every practice. that shit will start smelling like crazy. and dont let people smoke around it either.

Yea never had so much trouble slipping out of standard stuff like triangles from guard in my life, it's going to take some getting used to but seems like it will help my overall game out a lot forcing me to keep myself from getting into those bad positions rather than trying to just power out of things with a little help from sweat. Also gi chokes come from like every angle and it slips right under the chin if you're not expecting it.

There is some bjj competitions coming up around the new year that I'm trying to get comfortable with so I can compete.
