so i started downloading the series cause i really like survivorman, but so far my reaction is that this guy is like a glorified stuntman, its super extreme and hes super hardcore, but if he was actually trying to advocate survival methods, it got lost somewhere
if he played poker, he would say something like "i get my kings in against aces anyway, just because i usually win. i'm awesome, i'm bear grylls"
seeing as he constantly takes ridiculous unwarranted risks that would normally result in life threatening injuries/hypothermia and hes super awesome so he can usually catch food and make fire in almost no time
i guess like, my problem is that i read some reviews on imdb and some of them seem to think that hes actually showing ways to survive, but.. well, he's not.
not to say that it cant be entertaining but i am so tilted by the fact that he tries to pass off his show as actually accurately portraying survival methods and that people believe that, if it was just a show about stunts and EXTREME ENTERTAINMENT i guess i wouldn't care.
i cant help but think of more poker analogies, he would be like "expect to win your flush draws 90% of the time. if you don't, somethings wrong." hes really just spreading gross misinformation if he continues to magically find food, water, fire and shelter INSTANTLY and dodge injury while taking ludicrous risks for seasons 2,3,4 and 5.
and i respect that hes super awesome from the special forces and all but i find that pretty irrelevant to whether or not his show is accurately portraying anything
and i speculate that hes lying about the heights hes jumping from because the camera angles are really sketchy every time so far :O
im really thinking the vast majority of game that he finds and kills is either planted, or he doesnt actually catch it and they replace the dead animal with something from the super market because of lame sauce camera angles too :o

its a fucking entertainment show and the guy definitely knows his shit. my gripe with survivorman is that the show is INCREDIBLY boring. I'd rather watch the news type boring.
i realize i text walled you, but i acknowledged that he probably knows his shit, and the show is entertainment, im tilted by the fact that people want to take it as serious survival advice.

I've also watched this, its true that 99% of the people would not be able to use the methods he shows, but when you don't have anything with you there are no other choices. I also noticed few things that seem sketched but most should be real. He's just good and i dont see anything tilting in that I think you misread him, he's not bragging how great he is, he's just positive about everything he does which is the key, not only in survival.

not to mention that a lot of the stuff is v v extreme, but so are the places he goes. a lot of the stuff he does is probly shit that some n00b who isnt wilderness trained would actually stumble upon not knowing any better. now obv it isnt applicable by said n00b, but still !!

I watch the show for entertainment, but I definitely think what he does would be useful if you needed to survive.
I'll toss a poker analogy at you, it's like watching someone playing nosebleed's HU, they are gonna get into insane metagame shit and do ridiculous things that would just end up with you spewing like a maniac against worse players, but occassionally they do something you can replicate with success at lower levels.
You are probably never going to be lost anywhere as crazy as he is, but if you get lost anywhere, and you can use one or two of his tricks it may save you, it's about knowing what to take away from it and applying things at the right times.
That said, the show is mostly for entertainment, but he does know what he's talking about. Most of the stuff he does is stuff only a guy in sick shape should be doing though.
i agree with you rockman, i definitely think he's a bit extreme on the entertainment side but i guess thats why the show co-exists with survivorman in the first place.
