Vid Card / Ram help

I've been running a game on my PC and my monitor keeps going into power save mode. I've updated the drivers for my vid card and monitors but it still has this issue. I also went into the control panel and turned all the power save and hibernate options to 'Never'. Still no luck even after searching Google and seeign many people have had this issue, but no one seems to have found a resolution for it.

It of course may be that my system wasn't exactly bought for gaming and I need to upgrade a little bit. Although I can't confirm that this is the issue, I have no problem upgrading the vid card (GeForce 7300LE) and RAM (1GB) if anyone has any suggestions of what and where to get it. I don't want top of the line stuff just something to update me into the last year or so. I assume I can do this from 50-200 bucks.

Also do I need a power supply or something?

Eww, upgrade the 7300LE for sure if you can. Have you tried the monitor on a difference computer or the computer with a different monitor?

Does this only happen in the game?

Haven't tried on other monitors - I actually have 2 of the same Dell 2007WFP - one uses DVI and the other VGA when I run dual display for teh p0k4rs. I don't really game much so I was gambling that this would work.

I'd love to upgrade the vid card - Do you have a good recommendation for reasonable price - definitely don't need top of the line.

Best bang for your buck would be an 8600GT or GTS since they're unbelievable cheap right now. Not top of the line but great for the price.

Depending on how old your computer is, you might consider a new power supply as well.

As for your power save mode issue, doesn't that happen when your computer is off and your monitor is on? Definitely do the trial and error routine by checking another monitor or computer.

I might just run to best buy and pick up their cheapest one just so I dont have to wait for the mail.

this might be very well a power supply issue so i suggest getting a powersupply.

Dont go to bestbuy, newegg is seriously sick. I bought a videocard and some RAM this monday, and i had it tuesday morning.

*wink wink*

okay I'll go with newegg. I don't know crap about PSU's though. I wonder if I should get RAM while I'm at it. Seems like shipping is free with most of these deals so I don't really need to combine orders.
