After a decent session I had yesterday, today I lost 4,5 buyins. I don't know what's going on. I got a few tough beats but I'm losing tons of cash in small and medium pots. Here are my stats from today (they don't include $100 I won on UB in a nl50 HU cash game that lasted 15 mins - obviously I lost a 160bb pot to a runner runner flush there as well):

As you can see I'm a fkin nit. Somehow everyone seems to be calling, raising and floating me all the time. My AF on flop is pretty high, when I compare it to other winning players so that's probably the problem. But wtf - I don't cbet every flop and those winning players have AF on flop about 2.5-3.5 and they say they cbet like 80% of the time. So why mine AF is so damn high? I also think I'm getting myself into too many marginal spots by raising 50/10 type of retard-limpers with too weak or speculative holdings. Any suggestions? How can I change my postflop play? When should I cbet and when should I give up? I know that it depends on villain, flop texture etc and I think I'm adapting to all those conditions but those bastards keep playing back at me all the time when I've got nothing. When I actually have a hand they either fold or outdraw me in some ridiculous way. I guess I might be just running bad but wtf - not for such a long time. My winning session are like "wtf - a miracle". I know I've got a lot of leaks but why can't I beat those morons on nl100? Can I be that bad? I'm not worried about the money but I'm just becoming more and more hopeless. I try to study my game regularly, read the forums, I watch videos on CR and I've got a good understanding of the concepts explained and introduced there but I just can't keep winning regularly. Like wtf look at this graph (my April so far):

Is it normal? I don't think so. I must be doing wrong something very important. Some key concept I'm missing. Desperately looking for help. Anyone?

you're not a nit. these stats are fine in 6max. when you play with a ton of stations, slightly fewer hands are profitable, so you should be a bit tighter. also, when you play with overaggressive supermonkeys, same thing applies. since you find a lot of these two types of players at nl100 6max, your stats look good to me.
when it seems like people are floating you and playing back at you a lot, it's usually not true. you're just running bad and they're hitting flops.
cbetting 80% is far too much. don't cbet this much. prey upon those who do by calling and raising thinner, and sneaking in a bluff on a good flop texture every now and then.
your AF is so high because you never call on the flop. you're always betting or raising. consider calling more. when you're faced with a bet or a raise, ask yourself whether calling might be the best play, and try to reason it out. there should be plenty of opportunities for calling. think about how calling on the flop is going to influence your turn and river play, and how your hand rates against your opponent's range, and also how the turn and river will influence your opponent's play.
yes, you can be that bad. yes, you can run that bad too. it's almost certainly a combination of a few things:
1. running bad
2. not thinking carefully enough about your decisions, and especially not how they will affect your future decisions
3. getting frustrated with people playing back at you, when they're not actually playing back at you, you just think they are because you can't see their cards. most of the time, people really have something, and every now and then you go on a streak like this one, where it seems like every other hand somebody hits the flop big against you. don't let this tilt you. |

also, note that sometimes calling or checking is more aggressive than betting or raising. try to be aware of this and mix up your game accordingly. be more trappy against habitual bettors, and bet smaller/thinner against stations. maximize value from medium hands, make your strong hands look like bluffs to maximize value from them, and otherwise don't bluff much, not even in the form of cbetting or blind stealing.
this is the best approach to beat 6max games, at least up to nl200. maximizing value from medium hands is key. you should have a lot more focus on medium hands than bluffs. |

also, if you really are just that bad, it's very important to understand this: that's fine. a few people are sortof "blessed" with an intuition that helps them grasp poker very quickly, and their natural conclusions just tend to avoid logic traps that create leaks in many players' games. but most of us have to work and work and work and work, and only after a TON of work, experience, and thought can you actually become competent at this game. many many people, including myself, honestly just suck at poker.
don't let my posts mislead you. while i am smart and can generally reason through the majority of situations correctly, that doesn't mean i play well at the tables, and a lot of that is just not thinking carefully enough. you can have a ton of potential and still be a shitty player. it's fine, just overcome it. |
