Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend me some books which are talking about the mental aspects? Usually I don't tilt, but still have some moments, when I just can't close the client, even though I know I should or I'm going all-in just to try to run-up a big stack, even if I know it is -EV, but after a couple of beats, I don't have the patience to grind it up once more (the same applies after I make a deep run, I just don't feel like playing after that anymore, no matter if I win or lose). What do you do in the middle of an MTT session if u feel like tilt is taking over?

Want to improve my mental abilities and to develop an iron-will. Lately work has been pretty easy, with not many things to do and I just waste time, procrastinating. This is something I definitely want to get rid of, but it's effing hard. Another aspect I observed, that instead of cherishing the success of others, I'm rather jelly - I quickly ward off this feeling, but the first emotion I feel is definitely negative. This is another thing I hate about myself. So, if you have any advice, books or w/e, would be greatly appreciated.

Elements of Poker - Tommy Angelo (by far the best book on this subject)

The Mental Game 1 & 2 - Jared Tendler (pretty decent as well)

Both of them have good podcasts as well on the subject, Tommy on DeucesCracked and Jared on QuadJacks.

Good Luck.

I didn't learn for 17 years (currently finishing masters degree), to flip burgers. I would do it, if it was the only option, but currently Im content where my career is headed. And money isn't the reason why I'm concerned of tilting, but because it makes me play -EV and take spots which I should not and its slowing down the rate of improvement. Heck, I don't even play for the money, but rather for the rush, for the adrenaline, for the feeling when you outplay someone - money is super nice obviously, but not the main reason.

The Poker Mindset (Ian Taylor & Matthew Hilger) isn't bad from what I've read of it

Jared Tendler - the mental game of poker 1 - and try to do everything he says you need to do, don't skip tasks, and don't rush to finish the book
also, try to face poker as a sport ( even I don't think it is a sport ), eat well, sleep well, have a routine, and do whatever you need to do to increase your performance and your mental issues every day

Poker is not a game that benefits from these types of raw emotions; too much emotion, positive or negative will effect your conscious thought process and put you on a form of tilt.

You should read "The Mental game of Poker" by Jared Tendler - http://jaredtendlerpoker.com/thementalgameofpoker/

The "Mental game of Poker" is great like most of the people above suggest. I would also recommend books on Buddhism which certainly helped me a lot in the tilt department. However I would caution that there is kind of a side effect, the main one being that your desire for money becomes greatly diminished so it is hard to find the motivation to spend your time grinding poker. This is good and bad I guess. Much better than going crazy tilting obviously.

watch eithfold path to poker enlightenment on DC, angelo's book is a lot about table poker good if you play it not so much when you dont.

POker mindset is a staple.

Tendler's book seems to complicated to actually do it practically tho without getting bored?

Also I find motivational universal stuff helpful like meditation and some self help programes (Jack Canfield's on self esteem is good - pretty much accept the past, accept who you are, do the things you fear, be positive kind of thing. lot of it sounds as BS but listening to anything positive strengthens your mindset and refills your attitude canister(tm))
