I got this e-mail from microsoft:

We recently received a request to recover your Microsoft account xxxxxxxx@hotmail.com. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify your ownership of this account using the information you provided. Microsoft takes the security and privacy of your personal information very seriously, and we are committed to protecting the personal information of customers. We have taken the additional step of blocking your account xxxxxxxxx@hotmail.com until we can verify you as the account owner. This will prevent any further use of the account, and protect you from any possible malicious activity.

Please submit a new account verification form
At this point, your best option is to submit a new form with as much accurate information as you can gather. The more information you can include in the form, the better the chance you’ll have of regaining access to your account. We’ve included a few tips below to help you fill out the form as completely as possible.

> Submit a new form

Helpful tips for filling out another form:

Answer as many questions as you can.
Use the information you provided when you created the account, or last updated it.
Submit the form from a computer you frequently use.
You will be asked to list recently used email addresses and the subject lines from recent emails. Ask for help from family members, friends, or business contacts to confirm their email addresses and tell you the subject lines of the last three emails they sent you.
Make sure to use the correct domain for your account, such as hotmail.com, live.com, or outlook.com. Keep in mind that your email address may be country specific. For example, if you created your account in Sweden, your domain would be “hotmail.co.se” rather than “hotmail.com”.

So I submit the form and I get this same e-mail claiming that the information provided in the form was not enough to recover my account. I've been using a VPN recently to watch basketball games that are not available to Canadians, I suspect its my different IP's several min apart that made them suspicious. That being said this is a ridiculous persuasion. Not sure what I am supposed to do here, I was checking google and apparently there are a few other people with a similar issue, but no resolve Microsoft support is awful from what I've been reading. The only reason I care is because I have a lot of contacts associated with this e-mail that I otherwise am unsure how to contact*

I had the exact same thing with my hotmail account. I filled in the form again (although I'm pretty sure I gave the same answers) and they finally reopened it, but then a month or so later they closed it again for the same reason and I gave up on that account. Must be an automated system with some very sensitive triggers. Maybe there's another way to get in touch with them?

I forgot my MSN password and was using the auto-login feature, however, I haven't used MSN for awhile, so I think I'll run into "locked" problem whenever I try to switch to Skype.

----------

Never mind. I used the password recovery option and I chose the security question option and made a new password.

Now that I have my account back, I'm not even gonna use it since my friends list is full of gamers I don't talk to anymore. Mobile chat apps like Kakao and Facebook have taken over.

^ I'm old school too. I've had my MSN email account and my Hotmail account account since 1999.

Not too long ago, they got rid of Hotmail and replaced it with Outlook.com, but you can still use your msn/hotmail login information and go to hotmail.com to login, you just can never create an email that ends with @hotmail.com anymore. I guess this makes us part of the elite?

not anymore since I cannot access mine, and from what I've been reading on support forums, their technical support is the nut low. I wish they had a number I can call so I could yell at someone

I had the same message when transitioning from hotmail to outlook (I guess it is because I don't use it often). I let it go, as I did not want to give them information.

sorry for shitty english.
