Today I got a letter stating that I have been accepted to study one semester at Western University, London, Canada. This was my 3rd choice pic, and Im still not 100% if I should accept or not. There are some other options available still if I feel like I want to study in another country.

First of all I have never heard of the city London (in Canada, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London,_Ontario) before i applied for this, could Canadian LPers tell me about the city and possible any experience of Western University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Western_Ontario) as well? It the autumn semester of 2013, how is the climate? Well I live in Sweden so hopefully not worse than autumn here, but is it really bad like rainy all the time? Will I have to travel to Toronto/Detroit if I want to go out?

What I want from my semester abroad is to improve my english (maybe already noticable?) and also of course experience something new, I have lived in Stockholm all my life, come change is always good.

So any input? None canadians that have study abroad could also help by telling if its the 100% cool experience everyone seems to think it is? My other main option would probably be to pay all the fees myself for studying in New Zeeland, but its preeeetty expensive. For this my own University in Stockholm pays for pretty much everything.

Have to admit Im a little bit anxious about this as well, never lived out of my comfortzone before, and Im not un-social but Im not the guy that step into a new place and instant make new friends either, but thats part of the challenge i guess! Hopefully some LP-canadians can meet up if I go?

Finally onlinepoker being fully accepted is a + ! Sadly I didnt apply to any American Universities because of this.

Nah, can hardly understand anything you've written!

As a former student who has studied abroad, but not in an english spoken country (noticable?), I can say that it has been a great experience (more about life or language than about studying). I would say that a good start is to avoid a city or university where you there would be with others fellow Swedish students. Or Universities where you only live on a campus quite far from a city and where it will be harder to meet others people.

Growing up, Western was one of the choices many of my friends chose to apply to, but never the most preferred. It's been shown to be a decent school regardless. If you want a life experience for 4 years, you'll probably enjoy Canada and you'll enjoy that city. Maybe it hasn't hit it's full potential like a larger city, but it's definitely still up there. London is also home to Fanshawe college, nicknamed Funshawe... because of the partying atmosphere. I've been a few times to London and it's a city seemingly full of car dealerships. Lots of students come school season though. Mostly everything is pretty new, even the downtown core because it's been really growing a lot recently. Canada is a country that has one of the wider ranges of temperatures. Summers are hot and winters can be pretty bad but we all just adjust. Since it's southern Ontario, weather isn't as bad as the rest.

If you were me? I'll give my honest answer. I would stay in your home country and go to school for free. I believe it's a huge privilege to be able to do that in this world. If you have a way to combat the financial burden of being a student studying abroad, have at it. I didn't study abroad, and don't regret it at all. But I can't really speak for those who have.

He said it is for 1 semester and that he would not have to pay. Between staying in the city you have always known and changing for one semester, it's a no brainer.

sorry for shitty english.

Can't see how London's all that exciting. Any city that isn't Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver probably isn't quite as exciting. But if you are here, you can visit those places and have fun, go to Niagara and shit I suppose.

Couple of years ago UWO made the Playboy's list of top 10 Party Schools in North America.

Enough said.

Western is infamous as being a party-school.

Balzamon   Sweden. Jan 26 2013 07:31. Posts 2868

Haha OK party-school fine, but I hope UWO is known as a semi-decent University education wise as well? =)

Not sure if you are on a period or something, whats weird about me not wanting to give up my only source of income for 6 months if I have a option? Haters gonna hate i guess!

If you do decide to study at Western for a semester you should take a weekend off and travel to Brantford. It's only a couple hours out and is a beautiful town that is home to two of Canada's greatest historical figures (Bell and Gretzky)

I've only through London to Toronto but I would encourage you to go for sure. You're seriously going to have a great time. Canadians are the best.

Of course it was a good shove, I won
