| | Free iPod by T8Suited, September 04
During the summer I ordered a 80G video iPod for my girlfriend, a 8G miniPod for my mom, and a 30G videoPod that I sold to my labmate Chris for $220. So I was totally baffled when a 4th parcel arrived at my office mailbox some day in mid August.
I was out of country at that time, my labmates emailed me about it, and they found out that the Fedex package was another 30G iPod that was sent from Bestbuy.
I'm pretty sure my Pokerstars account didn't lose 20k FPP in the process. Therefore somebody must have lost count -- either Pokerstars or the local electronic store. Either way I don't mind. Scott, another labmate of mine, quickly swooped in and asked for the same deal as Chris did, and I agreed. For a while I was planning to keep the iPod, but I was to polite to refuse, and I certainly don't mind a free $220.
------
I pushed my bankroll over 6k for the 2nd time of my life, and I hope that this time it stays that way. Sunday I recorded a nice +$755 NL100 6-max session. Monday I had less time, so I played a mix of NL50 6-max, $27 SNG, and for the 1st time ever, NL50 heads-up.
A few fun hands:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/264676 KQ Opponent was playing like a maniac. I am pretty sure he knew I have some kind of mediocre made hand. But he didn't know I also had the guts to call big with it.

Not really sure what to do. I end up being breakeven all the time. Hired a coach and he never fucking shows. I get in with the best of it and lose.. so I get in behind, I still lose. It just sucks.

| | Uni + Poker by Graisseux, September 04
So September = back to school time = university initiations.
For those who've never been initiated, it's mass fun, you get to meet lots of new friends, you discover the campus and after a whole summer of wasting yourself in bars and clubs you realize that it is still possible to have fun elsewere.
Oh, and there's unlimited free alcohol.
So to wrap up the thing, last week the new students had to come up to the chemistry café dressed up as super heroes where we, 2nd year students, would begin their integration .
I had a nice vision upon arrival as there were 3 catwomen/batgirl (out of 16 ppl lol) that formed a pretty nice trio. All the others were great too and I'll post pics someday (and maybe some pics of me from last year, I'm pretty cute as a cheerleader).
After having them run all over the building screaming and acting like ducks, cows, etc. they were ready for the Kamasutra balloons. We seperated them into 2 big teams which were then splitted into 4 pairs. Then, in order to score points, they had use their balloon (filled up with water+flour) as a penis and make it pop on their partner. The funny thing is that the balloons were REALLY hard to break and that they had to use weird sexual positions found in some kamasutra book we had. Got pics of that too.
The last part was the food fight between chemists and biochemists (btw death to them) of which I have pics also.
Anyways I posted this blog entry because I was wondering if there were many ppl @ university in this forum (I think so), what their field of study is and how do they deal with their poker addictness and the fact that they (I presume) have to study a minimum.
I don't have the pics uploaded yet, so in the meanwhile enjoy those chicks :

| | Should i quit or try harder? by maniachigh, September 04
(im not whining here) but im down 1k since i started, this was about 10, 100 dollar buy in's.i think im real a good player and i have the desire and competiveness to to be like most of you good players.
i honestly compare it to bw. i wasn't naturally talented but i keep playing untill i got good. i want to do this with poker.
here is the thing i KNOW the reason im down. its because of tilt and REAL bad br management. i didn't know what BR management was. i know how to play, but untill i lost my last buy in. i was playing fucking 5-10 with a 300 dollar bankroll, "STUPID ME" yeah i went up a few hundred then got raped in one hand.
how do i tell whether i suck balls or if its just my BR management. should i rebuy again? i fucking hate pennies thou. for 1. its so boring to me and 2.i FIND it much harder because they can't really be bluffed. ill get called down with a pair of dueces!!! IDIOTS !!! kids willing to risk a 50 dollar raise in .25 .50 with bottom pair wtf is that? I PUT HIM ON DUECES THATS WHY I RAISED YET HE CALLS LOL oh well w/e i don't care good call he got me ! i guess.
ANYways should i quit. or was the way i was playing fucking me over to go broke from the start with my stupid br management?
should i try again? and if i do what should i buy in with ? would that be a good move to buy in 250.00 and start at 10NL in on .05 .10 ?
ALSO what is grinding? i can tell what it means but what style of play is good for grinding is it better to just play super tight at low stakes? i read SUPER SYSTEM and the aggressive style is Real good and works for me. i like how i can double up without even having a hand, by the time i make one they THINK im bluffing and call lol.
however it seems to suck on low stakes u agree?
Also whats Easier to build BR SNG or Cash?

| | Sick cold run by Mayday, September 04
I'm finally up to $225 today, after grinding from losing $20 last night to a billion coolers and bad beats.
It was so sick. Set over set, Set vs top pair on flop and he runner-runnered a boat, all in on flop set vs open ended straight. I'd have Aces and by the river a four flush would hit and I'd have to fold in disgust. My cont bets were getting raised, my bluffs were getting called... You guys have all been there before I'm sure =]
Anyways just marking this as my worst run since I started grinding last month. Somehow, through good solid play, I managed to at least stay at $210. Even this morning, it was really bad... I'd win a 4 buy in pot, only to lose it to some sick two outer the next hand...
Still, it's a success. I didn't go on tilt, and I'm still positive by 3 buy ins for today. Gogo! only 15 buy ins before I move up to $10NL!!!
btw, I'm playing pretty tight, and keeping my play very standard and simple, as suggested in Grot's guide. About what limits do I have to start worrying about other player's skill level, and disguise my hands/get pokerHUD etc?

I'm totally ready for NL100, too bad the deck won't let me play here.
I'm going to play a little more here, if I lose $150 more I'm done at NL100 until I rebuild to $3500 though...this is fucked

| | Goals in Life ? by PplusAD, September 04
Hi all
yesterday my biggest RL friend ever ( i know him for 8 years now and were close to feeling like brothers from what weve gone trhough together) had his 23 birthday.
was just a small party with some good friends and we drunk tons of alcohol , whatched some DVDs , and talked about life and goals and stuff while ocassionally interrupting the high quality philosophy stuff for rounds of wild naked dancing.
( we were really really drunk and started dancing rounds without any reason whenever someone said something that was close to sounding like spoken by a true philosopher
I cant remember any details but i assume it was fun ^^
nevertheless the Topic of : what are your goals in life
has fascinated me since ever.
when i was 15 years old my main goal was just to get some girls laid.
when i was 17 years old i intended to take as many drugs as possible while also fucking as many girls as possible
with 19 i intended to still take as many drugs as possible to eventuelly die on overdose.
I got clean at the age of 20 years.
From there on my main goals were to succeed in my new hobby
MMA and get a nice Girlfriend for a solid relationship.
Also doing good at University was important to me
getting close to 22 Years i discovered Poker
and from there on my main goal became to get rich
( didnt succeed yet ^^ )
I mean at the age of 23 years youre simply fucked without money. Life is just so expensive if u wanna have some fun.
SO at the momment my main goals
Highest priority first
1. graduating from university
2. getting good amount of money from Poker
3. find a nice Girlfriend for a solid relatiosnhip
4. Fight some little beginner MMA events in Poland or Romania with soft competition.
Since most of u are around my age ( 19-25)
id be interested in your Goals dear LP guys.
On a side note :
played a short 360 hands morning session ( big evening session is to follow) and surprise surprise i didnt get bad beats

GL
Allhttp://img105.imageshack.us/img105/9426/vlcsnap34498mq5.jpg
EDIT _
cant play NL 10 anymore ... every table is like 2 regulars and 8 shortstacks ...
played some NL25 instead
my first impression is that the games are damn soft.
Almost everybody is weak tight ...
I didnt even get the murder hands , but people are soo so easy
to bluff out if you chose the right spots and they are so easy to
make them call when u want it.
lets see what the future brings.

| | Yesterday Session by Quocy04, September 04
I haven’t play poker in 3 days due to my friends coming to Vegas to visit me to party. It was great to see them because I haven’t seen them in awhile and we got crazy drunk. Now im back to business and I need to start focusing in getting better on my game and trying to beat the low stake.
I didn’t log in a lot of hands yesterday cuz I was busy cleaning my room. I took the advices that people gave me on the last post and started to loosen up more In position (thx Day[9]). I was up 3bi but I end up losing it due to some bad plays and some suck out.
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3549/211gn7.png
I played this hand really bad and i wonder if i shouldve C-bet this flop. How would you guys play this hand?

So the way it works is, you play poker and lose some money - then you can go to the casino and win it all back from blackjack and video poker.
runner flush for $25
double once vs a 7 or something
double again: free double up vs deuce.

brag: sick read vs video poker
beat: only $5 is profit
variance: i still hate party

| | SUPERNOVA by NeillyJQ, September 04
I reached supernova finally!
After finishing my session earlier, I was practically fiending to get back on NL100. The sessions here are so much fun its ridiculous, the spirit of the game is flowing in me hard now that I'm in such an action packed game.
Heres my stats from the session;
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 1803 hands and saw flop:
- 96 out of 338 times while in big blind (28%)
- 35 out of 338 times while in small blind (10%)
- 111 out of 1127 times in other positions (9%)
- a total of 242 out of 1803 (13%)
Pots won at showdown - 28 of 59 (47%)
Pots won without showdown - 245
It felt so cool to go supernovasayian for the first time, even the hair on my arms is yellow now, lol.
On that note, I'm goin to bed, finally.
GL everyone,
Ryan

| | ty gawdawful by NeillyJQ, September 03
So after I was struggling a little at NL100, I played a few big pots with GawdAwful and learned the importance of strong PF play and making strong decisions before the flop.
After this lesson I really picked up my game and went from down 4 buy-ins to down 1 by the end of the session. I'm going to give NL100 6max 1 more try tomorrow, and if I drop below $3k I'll move down to NL50 and keep crushing there.
This was a very informative learning session tonight that I'm thankful for.

| | A good session after a bad tourney by JoeDeertay, September 03
I just got back about 2 hours ago from the local poker league tourney off campus early because I misplayed about a third of my stack on a bluff that obv would have worked if I actually went through with it after floating the flop. That had me a little pissed at myself until I got home and vented to acdawg712 about it, then decided to play a little 2 hour ring session.
I just finished playing and the results are good. I got in about 1200 hands 12-tabling $10NL and won about $36. I think I played really well throughout and can honestly say I didn't make any stupid plays. I'm quickly learning how to properly handle 12 tables and still pay attention to everyone and what's going on. Hopefully I keep running well and maybe move up limits within the next month.

| | Drift On Inn - First live tournament by curtinsea, September 03
I played my first live tournament today, a 40 player field with a buy in of $35, at the 'Drift on Inn' (http://www.driftoninn.com/) in Shoreline, WA, which is about two miles north of the city limits of Seattle.
I was doing well until I picked up pocket aces. UTG I raised 4x, only to have the player on my left re-raise. Though I really didn't want to get all in pre-flop so early in the game, when it folded around back to me I chose to push all in (someone tell me pushing was the right move). Naturally, his pocket queens improved with a queen on the river, and though I had him covered, I was crippled and was soon out. Suckouts happen in real games too! Still, I had more fun than I do playing on-line, so I will certainly be back for more. This is a daily tournament, and I plan to play both days next weekend (not ready to quit my day job yet lol).
Bouncing back and forth between pokerstars and full-tilt. Sick suckouts on both sites. It seems to me that your pocket pairs make sets on the flop a lot more often than the odds would suggest on full-tilt. And on 'stars you see 'broadway' a whole lot. I doubt they are real trends, just the result of playing so many, many hands.
