| | "Hang on a minute!" said someone up there. by thestoryteller, March 11
Did I just receive a message from above?
A couple of days ago, I noticed that I was actually rolled for 5NL. Thanks to the advice I'd received my stats are soaring. In the 3,644 hands I've played since my last post, my turn AF has jumped from 2.5 to 3.56 and my river AF is creeping up. These two things alone have helped push my win rate to over 10BB/100 hands, more than double what it used to be (a large part of it is luck, of course, but I think the extra aggression is really helping too). I now have about $130, which I believe is on the border between 2NL and 5NL.
But if I was harbouring any thoughts of jumping into 5NL, this hand convinced me otherwise. http://www.liquidpoker.net/information/f/429644/Straight_vs._big_fat_bet.html
Ooo... the river call was bad... and embarrassing. How could I not have seen that one coming? And a 6 dollar mistake at 2NL is going to be worth 15 dollars at 5NL and 150 dollars at 50NL... Worst of all, it was an AK hand, the very hand I've been striving to improve.
Suddenly I didn't seem quite so ready for 5NL. I decided to stick around down here and grind a bit more till I get my basics right.
Here's the weird part: as soon as I'd decided that, another hand came along which involved no skill at all. I was in a 3 way pot. The flop comes 4d, Kh, 6d. The two nutcases in with me decide that top pair mid kicker is a great hand to get all in on. They shove. I shove. Unfortunately for the two nuts, I have them by the nuts because I've got the nuts - a set of sixes that turns into quads on the turn. It was complete and utter domination. As I watched the chips slide over to my seat, saw the two players leave the table and watched someone mumble "nh" in the chat, I felt the strange urge to go watch "300" half a dozen times.
The pot just about took me to the level I'd have been had I not called that river shove. The message from above could not have been clearer. Looks like I'll be at 2NL for a long, long time.

| | How much luck is needed to win an MTT? by makito, March 11
Well, I cant sleep its 5 am and I been thinking about this and I want some opinions or i just wanted to get writting down anyways
How much luck do you need to win a MTT? what percentage is skill and what percentage is luck? I mean you can play your A game going all in with the best hand and have someone suck out with 72o. yes I understand thats why bankroll management comes into play because of the variance. but what does it take to win an MTT? does the starts have to be lined up, does it have to be your lucky game and do you have to play 100% perfect? how often does this happen?
Why do downswings happen? is it a period of time that you just get unlucky? that your KK runns into AA everytime? or that you get rivered 9 hands in a row? what causes a downswing?
Do you believe in the law of atraction? (see the secret video) do you believe that if you have a bad beat the more you think about it the more bad beats are going to come? that asking and wanting a good hand real bad and getting it? could you stop downswings from happening by applying the law of attraction, and just attracting the good luck and good things?
bla i probably didnt make any senses i just havent slept in almost 2 days and im just thinking crazy in my head
let the flames come

| | msn + finished stake by shaw67193, March 11
finished my stake with MiPwnYa
http://www.tcnj.edu/~shaw6/poker/finalstatsformipwnya2.JPG
6 weeks in all, i definitely could've gotten it done sooner but school got in the way. we both agreed to settle it 1k hands early, leaving us with $2k each. according to ev i ran nearly $900 below expectation at all ins, which is a little frustrating.
also, i was forced to cashout quite a bit, really i only have about 1k roll now
but i'm halfway through a $650 bonus so i'll be right back at nl100 soon enough.
all in all i'm feeling good. i 4tabled probably 75% or more of those hands, which enabled me to learn a ton. i did have some very spewy sessions at times which i'm not proud of, but i've been spending more time than ever going over my sessions afterwards. as a result i think i've improved my game a substantial amount and i'm really pumped about getting back to 100 and beating it consistently with a solid winrate.
okay before i get too rambly...i want more lp'ers to talk to, so add me on msn. shiporgtfo#hotmail.com but with @ obv

| | St. Thomas \'08. LP Pride by NewBornBaby, March 10
Hey all-
Back at school at Fairfield University after a my last spring break trip at St. Thomas with Steve(PoorUser) and Andrew (Whackums) . It was a great time if you're into snorkeling, beaches, etc. There was a fair share of elder people so if you're looking to find a boat of ladies you may be up a creek. =/ We visited Magie's Bay, Koki Beach, and Trump Bay (@ St. John's). Transportation is expensive and food is a bit pricey as well but oh well. Balled out the last night at some Sushi Bar by a Yacht Club and had lots of Saki. If you're looking to visit bars there I would suggest Greenhouse, Duffy's, Offshore (Kinda sketchy), and Fat Turtle. There was no internet access at the Timeshare we stayed at all week so the fiend in us was struggling .
Here are some pics for everyone. We left some LP pride at the beach.

| | My first blog + Graphs and stuff by Bigbobm, March 10
Hey. It's Bob, the guy who does the interviews. I go to Western New England College in Mass, and I'm a senior math major.
I've decided to make a blog for a few reasons that I don't feel like typing out right now, but the main reason is because of the recent situation I've been put in.
As most of you know, Prima has recently cut off a bunch of skins that are on their network. One of them happened to be RedNines, which is where I held a majority of my br. Prior to this incident I was playing 1/2 and 1.5/3 on Prima. Fortunately I had bit left on FTP for various MTTs or when they send me more bonuses and whatnot. Shit hit the fan pretty quick when I started to run bad, and I then realized I needed to make a pretty decent cash out because I'm poor offline.
So basically what I was left with was about $300 and a pretty negative outlook on my poker future. I was debating getting a part time job and just waiting until Prima unlocked my account. I didn't really want to get staked because that just adds too much pressure on me to play. So after thinking about it and talking to a few people, I got a $200 loan from and a ton of motivation from a few people to help me clear my head and the negative outlook I had.
Alright, so heres the plan. I'm going to regrind the crap out of the micro stakes and completely forget about anything I have on Prima. If and when that is released, cool thats gonna be quite the bonus. I'm going to stick to a 20bi rule and try to play around 3k hands a day and every few days I'll let you clowns and clownettes (yug ) know whats up, and today was the first day of the grind.

| | March + Motivation by sTrAtO, March 10
(I know I'm a pain in the ass, but support my mini city please. Thanks
http://pakispakis.myminicity.com/ )
-Intro
-Cash games
-Tourneys
-Extra motivation: LAPT
My predictions were correct, March has been a good month so far. I've been very busy with school lately and I haven't played much because of this.
Also because I've been going out almost every weekend instead of staying home and play the Nightly 100k for example. I have also found the balance in life/poker/school I was looking for at the beginning of the year and that has improved my game a little.
As you can see in my PT stats, I only have 3000 hands lol but I have played them with joy, motivation and concentration, I've stopped playing just because I have to but because I want to.
http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/654/ptmarch1pc7.jpg
I ran very good this weekend at tourneys. Finished 4th at the Daily Fify Grand for $5439 and almost bubbled the Sunday Warmup Final table. $3331 for a respectable 12th place finish. $8770 is very nice for a weekend uh :D Thanks to this, I'm breaking even now with my February results and a few cash outs I made. Awesome

http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/3649/oprmarch01ha3.jpg
With PokerStars launching LAPT (Latin American Poker Tour), I would love to travel to one of their events and feel the experience involved in them. I don't care if I'm a fish or whatever, I know It'll be fun. The buyin is pretty low ($2500), compared to the U.S. or european tournaments, so I'm gonna try to satellite and If I don't make it in a given period of time, I'm gonna have to buy-in with my money. If I was planning to go to europe for vacations with my parents then I don't see why would spending money here would be a problem.
Thanks for reading. GL all.

| | aruba!!!!!! by Syntax, March 10
I haven't been on an airplane for a long time and i'm a big guy so yeah, next time...first class only thanks. The seats are fucking tiny and when u have to sit next to someone who is equally large, fucking sucks big horse dick. My neck was in pain and the sounds that came out of that fat guys body were disturbing. I hope i don't sound like that.
Anyway, landed in Aruba and met up with Adolfo (evade) and Adam (skilled_sox on ps)...checked into the westin and walked to downtown which ended up being too far Lol....so we got a taxi. Downtown is pretty cool. Some tight clubs, etc. Anyway, we ended up eating at an upstairs Little Ceasers that wasn't ghetto like the ones in the US. This one was actually sort of 'gourmet' style, kinda neat i guess.
Then we tried to walk to some grocery store that we saw in the far distance and ended up almost getting killed in some dark alley...not kidding. The market ended up being closed. Great. So no alcohol yet + almost die. Lol
So then we walk to a couple casinos around downtown and none have Poker. WTf? Later on we find out that the 2 hotels that have poker are extremely close to our hotel.
I won't even tell about how we almost got killed again. Just know that we were in a random person's car and he drove us to the other side of the island to a small market that is open 24 hours but the whole time i thought we were going to die. Well, i mean, he was cool and everything but where he was taking us was extremely sketchy. Anyway, so we get back to the hotel safely, thank the lowed jeesus. played some poker and asleep.
Now it's the morning and i'm the only one awake just relaxing smoking/playing a session. Im about to go down to the beach and hang out if they don't wake up soon but we have a shit load of beer so i'm thinking of waiting for them for that.
It's so beautiful here and the weather is so warm and perfect. The locals are really nice too.
One negative thing: everything is expensive.
Here are a couple pictures , will upload way more in next blog
