WSOP... I get a boner just thinking about it.
  JonnyCosMo, May 27 2008

I also enjoy making blog posts with flashy titles. Anything else you guys want to know about my life? May has been pretty good to me so far. Poker-wise, I'm doing average... I moved some money to FTP caz I got set up with a sick rakeback deal. In the 1st 3 days I had the most insane run at 2/4, making about 16k under my ID: COSMOWNED. Then I think I just got too cocky / started to run bad / started to play bad etc... caz over the past 2 weeks I've just been slowly bleeding away everything I won. Total, I'm up around 7.5k for the month in cash games which I'm definitely content about.

In all other aspects of my life, I continue to run like the lord Jesus Christ. I'm pretty sure I can walk on water, I just need to go out and try it tomorrow and prove to you guys that I can. With the exception of some retarded drama between a few of my friends, this month has really been the most memorable month of the year for me.

If anyone wants to photoshop my smile, here is your chance

Reggae Conerts! - My Hawaiian friend has introduced me to the insanely chill world of reggae music. Here is a clip that I took from my camera at Canes in San Diego / Mission Beach:

Song: Attention Span
Artist: Rebelution

Mid-May our good friend (and fellow LPer) Richard Dayton known better in these circles as RiKD, decided he was going to come out to San Diego and live with Myth & FrinkX til WSOP time. Last week we all went out to get a table at Stinagree, needless it say it was a pretty fucking sweet night:

Pre-puking RiKD - In fine form if I do say so myself, trying to spit his game at one of my friends. Later on in the night was not so glamorous for our solider.

[vital]Myth...

...Expressed his love for me

Oh boy... Might make this my new facebook profile picture

After Stingaree closed we met up with Markus and Theo Tran, which was funny since Markus informed Theo that I had 4 bet bluffed him with T9 in the $2500 event I got 3rd in at the Bellagio Cup. Theo is definitely a fun guy with a good sense of humor thou. Around 2:30am, RiKD proceeds to puke all over the couch we were sitting on, along with all over FrinkX's shirt and shoes that he had loaned him. We get the boot and my 2 friends drag me into this car with this girl:

So I'm sitting there in her car as she is driving, thinking to myself that this girl looks really familiar, even though I had never met her in my entire life... She says her name is EV, and I think I cracked a poker joke assuming these 3 girls would get it. Epic fail. Besides the point though, I finally just ask her why she looks familiar and my friends look at me with a crazed looked and proceed to inform me she was on Real World / Road Rules challenge (like the Inferno and the Gauntlet) which aired on MTV. Oh hey that makes a lot of sense! She was SUPER down to earth thou, really one of the most real people that I've met down in SD so far. She was even nice enough to go completely out of her way to drop off me and my friend in Mission Valley.

I really love random things that happen like that. Ok last picture for this post:

The night before two of my best friends graduate from USD. Definitely makes me regret not working harder in school, because they are just so set and sure of what they are going to do with their lives and I'm sitting here feeling a little lost sometimes. I'm not complaining though! I got more good pics on my camera but RiKD and I seemed to have swapped our Cannon Elf's that we got from the FPP store so when I get that back from him I'll make another blog post. OK now! To the main part of this blog post:

WSOP is coming up! And I do indeed get a little chub every time I think of it. My plan is to leave the morning of the 30th and stay at the Wynn for two nights with my roommate Thomas Gabriel (aka plzlemmewin on FTP, GoGators86 on PS / UB). He's really one of the most humble / nicest people I've ever met, and I've been constantly helping him with his poker game for the past year. The improvements he has made have been insane, and so now he's one of peachy's horses for the WSOP. I really can't wait for the 31st, which is the first NLHE $1500 event. The field / prize pool is expected to be insane, so... RUN GOOD ONE (MORE) TIME!!!

$1/2 6max video
  [vital]Myth, May 25 2008

So I really appreciated all the supportive and helpful comments on my last blog entry, which basically detailed my loss of confidence during 2008 and the fact that I've been doing extremely poorly recently.

As an expression of my gratitude, for all those who support me and believe in me, I've made a $1/2 6-max video. I feel that it's moderately educational, but the production quality of it is definitely sub-par. I'll most likely make a few more videos in the near future as I continue my grind toward recovery.

The video is about 45 minutes long, with after-the-fact commentary. But you will most likely find that my style is quite a bit different from what you typically see in these games. And, actually, this video doesn't touch on many of the spots that I play differently compared to the average competitor. Here's are the links:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3EN71OL4
http://rapidshare.de/files/39525029/myth_1-2_6max_5-25-08.wmv.html

Also, I'll give a status report for those who care:

How I'm doing

I'm nearly +25 buyins at $1/2 6-max already. My winrate is solid but not great. I have been playing well but not perfectly by any means. In the beginning I was doing too much cold-4betting and also a little too much leading, and now I think I'm not doing enough 3betting or 4betting but my leading frequencies are quite good.

I've decided that I will continue to play this game until I've reached the +25 buyin goal, and then I'll switch to $1/2 9-max for the same amount of buyins. After I've cashed out the $10k (and therefore have padded my live roll for WSOP cash games), I'll move up to $2/4 and rinse-and-repeat.

What I think of the games

$1/2 is an absolute gold mine. There are dozens of games running at all hours of the day, and there are only perhaps a handful of players who give me any real trouble. If you find yourself barely beating $2/4 and $3/6, I strongly recommend just staying at $1/2 for a long while until you've cashed out so much money that you are able to play $2/4 and $3/6 fearlessly. I honestly believe that most decent players can sustain a winrate at $1/2 that is > 2x their winrate at $2/4. My opinion on that may change as I regain confidence and move on to $2/4 later, but if it does then I'll let you know.

There are easily 5x as many true fish at $1/2 as there are at $3/6. I see a huge amount of 75/40 type spewtards in the $1/2 games, whereas the majority of non-regulars in $3/6 are just nitty and play fine.

Comments on the regulars

No regs in this game really give me any trouble. Notable people who seem to have very tight/solid play are FlareMVP, Pronych, TheDarkJoker, ffguitarguy, LuxuryMaster, and xgiovannix. All of these players seem decent enough that I haven't yet found a way to exploit them too hard. LAG-tards include agstremist, dxu05, Mckittrick19, and Sweet.kr. It was a little rough going at first to figure out dxu05 and agstremist, but it turns out that dxu05 runs far too many big bluffs and agstremist has a lot of trouble finding his fold button on any street, so they're both very easy to exploit.

I can't fairly comment on any of the LPers in these games, because they play extremely differently from their normal styles when I am sitting at their tables. Kapol never cbets, gawdawful never folds, and it's really easy to predict when Big_Rob_48 won't give me credit for a hand. Kapol and Big_Rob seem really good/solid when they're not in pots with me, and gawdawful seems extremely tilty and just plain dumb for playing so many tables. (I like you Kevin, but you're retarded and you need to hear it.)

General tips for playing well in these games

1. People c-bet the flop way too much, and they don't mix up their play on the turn or river nearly enough. Because of this, you should flat call preflop, let them spew on the flop, and then let them turn their hands face-up on the turn and/or river. Proceed accordingly.

2. Adjust your preflop raise sizing due to the presence of extreme fish, which are plentiful here. If a fish is limping in and calling raises a lot, especially if you have a bad image against him, then just raise his limps to $16-20. It's critical that you maximize value against horrible players, and in these games you can really get away with a lot of non-standard stuff.

3. People basically don't ever trap, so calling is almost 100% a weak or medium strength hand. If they are just calling, make them believe.

4. Don't open 4x. Open 3xing will create a smaller pot on the flop, which leaves a lot more room behind for postflop play. Your edge comes from the postflop game, because most people have really good raising/3betting/4betting frequencies preflop. The more betting you leave for the later streets, the more mistakes you'll induce.

5. Don't ever forget: THE FISH ADAPT. Most of your 8+ tabling regulars are gonna play the same no matter what you do (because they are idiots), but there are TONS of fish in these games, and they DO adjust to the way you're playing. If you can't follow your image very closely on every table you play, then you are playing too many tables. Trust me, your winrate will skyrocket if you have a great idea of your image on each table.

Thanks for reading, and good luck at the tables! Hope you enjoyed the video also

update #10
  Raidern, May 23 2008

Yesterday I played the 1st tennis match of my life. It was a 1 set match, in club-tourney, but instead of the usual "who wins 6 games first" rule, it was "who wins 8 games first".

It was a disgrace. I practise tennis for 5 months now, lost 8-2 T__T. Since I have very little experience other than practise sessions, I was very unused to the speed of his serve. Couldn't return his 1st serve for shit. All I could do was to hope he would miss the 1st serve. It happened a lot tho, but I still couldn't take advantage of his crappy 2nd serve.

I felt I was much better player than him, except that I got so nervous I was missing everything. I mean I wasn't shaking, feeling cold or anything like that. It's just that my ball wasn't going the right way and I started feeling if I hit it harder I'd miss it, so I was hitting very weakly on the ball.

I wouldn't mind losing 8-2 if I played my best. I'm just kinda sad because I played terribly and the guy was way worse than me. Well he serves much better than me tho.

On Poker: I was doing pretty well playing 5$ HU until yesterday. After I arrived tennis I decided to play poker, and for the first time I lost like 6 in a row, and was getting sucked out all the time. Like losing AKs vs 79o, KK vs T5, A8 vs 23, anyway, every sort of defeat that frustrates you.

Anyway, I fishly tilted so bad that I fishly did something I don't want to talk about because it doesn't make me happy and ended up losing the $183 I slowly built from playing headsup.

I guess now I won't "lose" time with poker. Maybe in a couple of months I'll sign for some LP promo and have some fun again with poker. Especially now that Pinball said he would be my coach and follow up closely my game until I become a winning player, all of this for free. Ei Erik no need to block me on MSN I'm just kidding hehe.

Strip dominos
  Baalim, May 20 2008

Well this saturday i had a "date" with some girl, i tried to google drinking kinky games like strip or something but i couldnt find anything at all, and she doesnt know how to play poker but loves to play dominos so i decided to add it a little twist, (its latin dominos not retarded american one), well the rules were, evertime you have to pass and steal bones you give a take a big drink, and everytime you lost and u had the 6/6 or 0/0 bone in your hand you loose 1 piece of clothing or every time u reached 100 points.

Actually the stripping pace turned out to be too fast, so i had to condone her the piece of clothing for extra drinking, so i think the perfect balance is only 6/6 and 100 points strip.

anyway in the middle of the night she went to the bathroom and i decided to take a snapshot of the current action lol

Starcraft to Poker
  iop, May 20 2008

From being an avid Starcraft freak when I was younger to an avid poker player. I came in contact with Starcraft in 1998 whilst visiting my cousins in Huntington Beach in Ca. I don’t think I even played, I just watched him play against CPU’s. A year later, I was living in Germany at the time, a guy in my class was in a clan called ($). A couple of others from my school were in the same clan and I got to play a couple of matches with them. Some of you might recognize iD.GioM, he was one of the guys that went to my school in Munich. I played a couple of games at home, but nothing too serious. I moved back to Sweden in 2000-2001 and found out that a guy in my class also played Starcraft. So being the cocky guy, I decided to challenge him to a 1v1 and proceeded to get my ass kicked in a way that was very embarrassing. This guy was [xxx]Dxxfe or Txxx)1337(xxxx for the old sc (not bw) Swedish guys. He tought me a lot, and for a full year I played daily. My days consisted of my going to high school to a class where I did not fit in, I was “majoring” in science in high school, and the people and I were from two different worlds. I couldn’t give a shit about school. I however got together with my first girlfriend at the age of 15-16 and when I wasn’t playing I was either with her or talking to her on the phone. We still had a 56k modem back then, so the line was busy basically 24/7 since I was either talking to her or other friends or playing sc. I even managed to set up a HotlineSW server on there (if anyone remembers HotlineSW). I started getting pretty decent after a full year of just playing, and after the summer holidays my mother asked my if I wanted to change schools to a boarding school. All of my best friends were at a boarding school called Sigtuna in Sweden, so naturally I thought that was the place we were going to check out. Obviously it wasn’t, we went to the smallest of the “Three famous boarding schools” – which I had never heard about. I was pretty stoked whilst being up there, met a guy whom I partied with the previous summer, and a week went by and I started at the school moving into my new dorm called “The Volcano”.

The school had a wack 3mbit, which was like a dream come to compared to my 56k modem at home, but the only down fall was that they had a firewall so I could not continue playing Starcraft. I decided to become a StarcraftGamers (now GosuGamers) admin and writing news, I was at the WCG2004 for Sweden and I got to meet a bunch of BW people. At this boarding school, even though we had a firewall a bunch of people were playing CS at LAN. So I slowly started to play cs 2003-2004 but only on LAN. We even went to a LAN competition to compete against other teams, we however did not have the luxury of praccing against other teams. I didn’t get to play since I was pretty bad, but I wanted to play some starcraft whilst being there, naturally their firewall fucked the internet over, so I could only play LAN. I found a couple of guys who were playing and asked me if they wanted to play me. I played against the first guy and beat him, and then he and his friend played me 2v1 and I managed to beat them again. I found an oldschool Swedish player from the clan “Shaotung” and played him. We had an hour long game TvP on LT which I lost. It was fun playing a good guy again, and I remembered how much I used to like this game.

After 2004 when I graduated from high school I went into the army and I did not play any games for a full year. After getting dischared in may 2005, I took It easy that summer, and the fall of 2005 was when I started gaming again. A lot of people from LP were getting into poker, as was I. I remember playing shortstack NL50 and loosing. I didn’t take poker too seriously but I started getting into Counter-Strike. A good friend of mine whom I played with at boarding school had suddenly become pretty good and was playing with the Swedish elite scene. I was envious and vowed to become better than him. I played a lot, but I am a pretty slow learner, as I was with starcraft so I wasn’t getting better very quickly. Feb 2006 was the month that I moved upto Stockholm to work, a friend of mine from boarding school who is an old school Counter-Strike player moved with me and we became room mates. We played a lot of CS and some poker. He was better than me, and could grasp different aspects of the game, while I was trying to win every pot I entered. Our 2v2 skills were real good, and we’ve probably only lost about 5% of the games that we’ve played. I started working at an IT company doing SEO for Pokerlistings (one of our clients), and became friends with a Swedish poker player called Terrible Turk, and some other 5/10 regs that were working as editors. We started playing afterwork, and on fridays and I was getting my ass kicked by them. Nov 2006 I re-registered at LP and I didn’t want to post anything in the discussion forums because I was afraid of getting berated, I however went to the room next door at work to talk with these poker players about hands that I played, and I slowly progressed into a decent mtt player. My first big mtt win was Feb 2007 where I placed 3rd in the Daily Double on FTP for about $900. I thought I was on top of the world and started playing NL100, at $1500 I played NL200 and at $2000 I played NL400. I remember playing with ToTMidan at NL200, a week later I was busto and pissed off. I vowed myself to become a better mtt player and to only play mtts. I played in this team poker league with 6 other guys which we managed to win. After that I went on a mtt downswing til July where I had a decent month with another $1000 cash. I played on a Swedish site and was dominating HU sngs (low stakes). I even started playing some NL300 and NL700 live at the casino with moderate success. Homegames and mtts at work were going good. In June 2007 I changed positions from being a Site Manager at work (doing SEO for Pokerlistings) to becoming a Project Manager for an e-commerce project. After doing that for 6 months I got depressed for reasons only God knows, and I quit my job and moved back from Stockholm to Malmö where I hadn’t lived since before boarding school. Fall 2007 was good for poker, both mtt wise and cg wise. In December I gave cash games another shot, and deposited 1k and started playing NL50 on Crypto. Still had some tilt issues, but finished + overall. I was crushing mtts there, even though the structure sucked donkey balls. I withdrew the money I deposited, plus another 1k (roughly?). I finished 4th on Stars 20+2 mtt for $1.5k. I stopped playing cs competitively in November 2007 after almost daily gaming.

January 2008 – I was finally home in my home town and I started off the year by donking a 20+2 on ongame for $1.5k. Went on a downswing at NL50, and withdrew my money. I continued playing donkaments on stars but never really getting deep enough, I either bubbled or FT bubbled which was pretty aggrevating. Suddenly I started getting deep in everything I entered, and got some staking opportunities. And finally 2 weeks ago I got my biggest cash for 3.5k + running well at NL100 on ftp. The past months I started to see poker on a whole different level, my understanding of the game is well, and my tilt factor is gone. I haven’t tilted in the past 6 months. I feel my mtt game is very strong, and my cg is above average. I withdrew my roll after my win, because I wanted to party in Stockholm and do other stuff. I forgot to write that in Feb 2008 I started working for a market research company as a Supervisor in a call centre. So I get to deal with teenagers and being an office manager is always nice. I however quit my job a week ago, and I am on my 2 weeks notice (the company is pretty messed up I’m afraid). I however will continue working part time here just to take it easy, and I will start studying next fall in Lund or in Malmö. I will also donk a big mtt soon, I can feel it coming...

I forgot a lot of mtt scores, and I cant be bothered to look back and update where I missed them..

I hope you guys enjoyed the read, and I hope you run good!

/Chris
