What's up everyone?

I hope everyone had good holidays and a good new year. I basically have just recently really got back into poker. After BF I pretty much just stopped playing for a good while and just didn't really have any passion to grind. It was a good break and mentally I got back to where I need to be.

I started to really get into the live scene. Playing a lot around town and going to some casinos. I had 1 final table in a $215 event where we ended up chopping 3 way and I ended up getting 4.2k.

A few months after that, I went to West Palm Beach, Florida to a place called the Kennel Club with my roomate. This place was probably the best poker room I've ever played at in terms of soft/good games. I played mostly 5/10 which played really deep and loose (more like a 10/25). The first few days I won about 2k, then had a pretty bad day and lost 3.5kish. The last day I was there I did really well and won around 4k and could've won more. I took 50% of my roomate in a shorthanded 5/10 game and very first hand live reg raises CO, My roomate 3bets the BT w AQhh and they get in $1500 each on a 654hhh flop, run it once and his 66 wins when the turn pairs the board. Regardless, a fun and profitable trip.

The next few months I played primarily online on a skin on Cake Poker anywhere from 1/2 to 5/10 did pretty decent. The games were much softer than the other sites I messed around with that were open to US players. I was really starting to build confidence again in poker and life and things were going well.

Not too long after this (probably abt month ago), my good friend from High School called me and told me about a 2/5 game that was super juicy and good. It was in another part of Tennessee that was about a 3 hour drive from me but I decided to check it out and see if it was worth the drive.

.....IT WAS!

The game played like minimum 5/10 because there was literally a $10 or $25 straddle just about every other hand. Also it played super loose. There were 2-4 guys that just literally would never fold pre if they straddled. So I felt it was super +ev and did pretty well the first day I played it winning about 2k. I came back the next week it ran and had another great session. My biggest live cash session of all time actually, winning about 7k total. It felt really great and while playing in this game I was making a lot of good connections and friendships with people that could help get me into more games and just open doors for other things. Well this past Wednesday, life finally went bad.

I called my buddy and decided to come back again for the game. My plan was to play it and just drive right back home the next day. Well I did that and won about 2k. I woke up at a friend's apartment the next day around 11:30 am and was trying to decide whether to go home or not. They ran a 1/2 game that played super loose and deep too that started at 12:00 pm every Thursday. Well I decided I don't really have anything to get back for at home so I might as well play it until 4pm or so and just go home whenever I feel. A little background on this game - it has been running without any trouble from the police or other businesses close by it for over 20 years. The guys who run it are really nice and good people and for the most part do a good job of running the game. I had no fear of getting robbed or anyone there doing anything shady.

This Thursday everything was going fine. We just finished eating some delivery pizza and at around 4pm we heard someone knocking on the front door (usually everyone goes through the back entrance). The knocking gets progressively louder and everyone hears shouting and yelling. One of the people who help run the game saw that it was the police and ran into the main room where we were playing poker. Everyone starts to scramble around and it's just utter chaos. I dash to gather up my things with my first instinct to just run away and the get the fuck out of there. This all was in probably a 10 second timeframe and after this the door gets busted down. Five policemen in vests and with guns drawn burst through the door. The crazy thing about what was happening was that some of the people at the game thought we were getting robbed and not busted by the police. So a couple of these guys pull out their guns, ready to shoot. In these split seconds the guys who pull out their guns realize we're not getting robbed (illegally anyway) and put their guns away. One guy however, just throws his on the ground. It lands next to a Mexican gentlemen who doesn't speak/understand English very well. The police are yelling "GET THE F ON THE GROUND OR WE'LL BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT". Not exactly police protocol. The Mexican doesn't understand what they're saying and isn't listening. This causes the police to try to wrestle him down and cuff him. While this goes on, one of the policemen knocks over a cup of hot coffee that spills all over another guy's back who was laying under the table. When this happens the guy reaches in his lower back because it is burning. The police interprets this as he is reaching for a gun in his back pocket. So then this causes another shit storm. All in all was a really crazy experience. After things finally settled down and half the people there were cuffed, they gathered everyone around and said they were going to search the area and everyones' possessions, including everyones' vehicles outside. Well I'm thinking that this is really bad for me. I have $1600 on the table, another $2k in pocket and about $4k in my bookbag. I normally would never bring this much to a 1/2 game but I had played higher the night before which requires you to have a lot of money to play and I won a decent bit. So my initial thought was that they were only going to take what was on the table but I was wrong. They took everyting...

I wasn't arrested but they took down all my information and money (-6.6k). They then searched my car (thank god I had no weed in there), and took the remaining $60 on I had on me. While the cop was searching, I asked him if he could just leave the $60 in the car because it was the only other money I had on me. He said, "I'm sorry man, I gotta take it all". I then said, "Man listen...you guys just took almost $7k from me, can you cut me a break, I play for a living and wasn't even using all of that money for the poker game, ect". He's like, "YOU LOST HOW MUCH?!", "That's messed up man, let me see what I can do". He then goes back inside and talks with the other policemen for about 15 minutes and comes back out and says he couldn't do anything for me.

All in all a very bad experience and big hit to me. The fact that the game isn't going to be around anymore really sucks too. I've talked with some friends who know the laws and police work pretty well and none of them think there's any chance of me getting the money back ;(

Anyway, now my plan is to just grind a ton online and try and make all I lost back by the end of the month (or at least some of it). I had plans to travel to Biloxi, Mississippi and back to West Palm Beach to play WSOP circuit events and cash and now this puts them in jeapordy.

That's about all I really have to update. I've had some thoughts of trying to get back into coaching. I still feel iffy about it just because I've never done it before and there's just so many coaches out there that can't beat todays games. Since I've been playing on Cake I've been changing my SN every week so it would be a pain to look up all my old SN's to provide results but I could do it if anyone would like me to. I'm thinking my rate would be somewhere between $35-$50/hour which I think would be pretty reasonable. Maybe I could provide the first session at a discount so potential students could get an idea of what my coaching would consist of and decide if they want to work with me in the future.

I also have been playing a decent bit of PLO. I still have lots to learn and plan on getting coaching from someone in the near future when we both have free time -_-

Anyway GL to everyone and send me a PM if you're interested in the coaching. I'll probably blog soon in the future with updates on my results so look out for that.

PEACE

update from london
  TimDawg, Oct 02 2010

Hey everyone,

This blog is going to be pretty brief, boring, and mostly for those who have bought action from me in the EPT London events. With that said....

I arrived in London on September 28th. My flights went surprisingly well as I slept pretty much the entire way. So I got in at around 10pm basically and just went right to sleep again because I had to wake up early, register for day 1b of the main, and then play.

My starting table (and only table) seemed pretty good at first glance but I soon found out otherwise lol. I had position on the 3 younger looking players who all seemed euro. Everyone one else seemed to be not the best for various reasons haha. I feel like I played very well overall. There are only 2 hands that stand out to me that I wish I would have played differently. I will share the one that I thought was kind of interesting and of course my bustout hand.

blinds are 100/200 at this point and I have QJss on the button,

utg raises to 500, 2 ppl from mp flat, as do I

sb makes it 2500

(who is sick sick aggro fish and has been 3betting relentlessly and played a hand where he 3b pre, potted the flop, potted the turn, and then folded getting probably around 3:1 on a call when he got shipped on)

the utg raiser calls and the 2 flatters from mp both fold, i call as well

flop comes out AJTxxs

crazy sb insta bets 5k into 7.5kish? pot (i have 20kish at this point)

i'm really not sure what is best in this spot but i ended up calling

turn was an offsuit 4

he instantly bets 11k (i have 15k left)

I was originally planning on calling off a blank turn but the fact that he bet 11k instead of shoving just seemed really strong to me and he just gave off a strong aura or whatever, so i ended up folding the turn

my bustout hand was pretty gay....

i pick up KK on the button

folds to the HJ (who is aggro swede), who makes it 800 at 150/300

i 3b to 2k on the button

the sb (who has been tight/solid) makes it 5600

folds to me....i ended up just shipping in around 19kish total

sb tanks......

tanks......

calls....

with AxQs

the doorcard is the Ks....followed by the Js and the 9s....

turn bricks

river 4s

gg

So I ended up playing in a 800 + 300 randomized bounty NL tourney which was actually lots of fun and a really cool tournament. Basically every 1 out of 10 players would get a bounty put on them (but still be hidden from the players) for 1000 pounds. Every other player would have a bounty of 100 pounds on themselves.

I ended up shipping 12kish with T6o from the sb at 400/800 and bb woke up with AQ and held (he had 8kish). Few hands later I ship the rest with 99 and get called by AT and QT and lose.

Today I played in the 1k PLO/NLHE mix, which was a cool tournament but very very annoying to play. I pretty much got into a lot of gay spots early on and had to make some semi-big folds, so I was shortstacked throughout the whole tourney. Eventually I doubled up in a pretty lol way in PLO when i had around 10bb's at 150/300/25 when I potted pre with AKsJ9. the bb tanked forever and ended up flatting pre (haha) then checked a 247 rainbow flop to me. I immediately throw my remaining 1400 or so into the pot and he tanks forever again and ends up calling with A662hhh.
However the turn came a 9, as well as the river.

So I then have around 20bb's or so and play tight and hover around that area for awhile. I then get into a pretty weird hand...

I raise QQJ9 double suited from MP to 700 at 150/300/25, mexico pokerstars pro flats from button and the guy I doubled off of pots it from sb to 3200 or so. I look where his stack should be and ask him if he has anything left and he shakes his head and holds up like a few chips or something (i dont remember exactly what happened). Anyway I ended up re potting to iso assuming he only had like a few 100 chips left behind but he actually had about 6.7k total or something. Anyway we get it in and he has AA3cc5. Flop is Qx2cc turn is offsuit 3 and river is offsuit A
I'm not sure if re potting in that spot with my hand is OK or not but I sort've thinking folding would be better now because I had a workable stack and the NL level was coming up soon, so I'd prob be able to get in much more +ev spots in that, rather than taking a PLO gamble. So right after that hand I get moved tables and ended up making a very marginal shove with A4o utg with 4.3k in chips at 200/400/50 (it was also 7 handed at that time). I think that's also probably a fold in retrospect and it'd be better to shove something like 89s in that spot imo but oh welll.

Overall I've been pretty satisfied with my play and I feel like I'm really on top of it right now, so I'm hoping to make a run soon. My best events to do that in are all still to come, so we will see.

Anyway, I really need to get some sleep because I'm playing the 1500 NL event tommorrow. I will make a much better and more detailed update soon but I wanted to go ahead and post something for now.

Peace homiez

also here is new song that came out today that is such unbelievable hot fire nolan doesnt even know

vegas report/coaching/new place/ect
  TimDawg, Sep 02 2010

Hey, what's up everyone?

I thought I'd go ahead and give everyone a brief Vegas trip report since that's a way more interesting and fun read than the other stuff I'm going to post about. All in all, it was an great time. Myself, Bob, Mez, Doomer, Doomer's friend Shane, and Ket stayed at TjBentham's house. Everyone in the house got along really well, which was really cool. Before heading out there, I was kind of going through a really weird time and probably the worst depression of my life. It was a combination of many different things, some I don't mind talking about, others I'd rather not talk about. But anyway, the reason I wanted to say that was because I think staying in the Vegas house for a month was one of the best things for me in a lot of different facets. As far as poker growth, learning, and just motivation, there really isn't a substitute for living with just poker players every single day. Eat, sleep, and breathe poker 24/7. Doomer especially helped a bunch. Just about every day we would sweat each other and just discuss different lines, pros/cons to them, and just random new ideas and concepts. Doomer, myself, and Shane also went to play live at mostly the Bellagio/Wynn quite a bit. Live poker is just so LOL in so many ways. I've finally come to realize how unique and different it is to online poker. My results live were pretty disappointing. At the beginning of the trip, I wanted to make some money and get some confidence going before playing 5/10, so I started out grinding 2/5. In probably 2 sessions, I did pretty well and made 2kish. Around that time I was also starting to crush the 1/2 deep games on stars. That combined with getting sweated and always talking hands with guys in the house had my confidence at an all time high. I started playing 5/10 live and started to get back to the good ole 2/4 games on stars that I've done pretty well in the past at. I continued to crush online, while I sort've broke even/lost a bit playing 5/10 live. I still felt really good about the way I was playing and started to sit in some soft 3/6 and 5/10 online games. Well in short, I had a couple of nasty sessions at 3/6 where I had position on 3 or 4 huge fish with 200bb+ stacks and got crushed a few times at 5/10 live. Oh well....

So in summation for my results in vegas, I would say I was prob +$7k or so at my highpoint and prob finished the trip around even or maybe up +$1k including all expenses. All in all, I learned a lot and that's what's important to me. I now feel I'm once again a strong midstakes winner and will continue to get coaching from dzoo and jamie to try and improve and break into becoming a 5/10+ reg.

Now as far as degen/crazy nights go, we really didn't get too wild but had a few epic strip club nights with tj/KET!!!!/clay/dzoo/jamie/some of their houesmates. Pretty standard though and nothing too crazy happened (that I remember).

One night however, I will have a hard time ever forgetting. I would for sure say it was one of the best nights of my life It started off with all of us going out to eat at some sort of asian type place at the Palms with hopes of getting into the Pokerstars party later that night where Snoop Dogg was performing. I don't think any of us had tickets to get in but we were just hoping to meet up with some sort of connection there. Well if my memory is correct our good friend Peachy Keen was able to get Elky to pull some strings You da man Eric (thanks to Elky as well). So Shane is able to sneak me in using Bob's ID (Bob you da man as well). We go inside of Rain and start getting drunk right away and by the time Snoop came on around 1am, kush filled the air as I was legitimately shitfaced. Shane, Bob, and I were together while everyone else was scattered throughout the club. So Snoop comes on performing his old hits like Gin and Juice and newer ones like Sexual Seduction. I was very drunk and enjoyed them all.
Well towards the end of his performance is when the night starts to get good. I'm sort've dancing by myself (lol), just enjoying the performance and the whole time this girl behind me in like rubbing up against me. I sorta just ignored it at first and thought it was kinda weird. Then she started to tap me on the shoulder, so I turn around and say what? She yells something... I don't hear her.....she yells again....I still can't hear.....finally she says, "CAN I GET IN FRONT OF YOU?" haha...im like yeah sure. she gets in front and just immediately starts grindin on me. So we're dancin and having a good time, then another girl (a rather large one, who i had lots of trouble moving around when we were trying to get to the front of the crowd), grabs my hand and lifts up the girl's dress (who im dancing with) and puts my hand right on her ass.......YES lol. What sucked though was that this was towards the end of the performance and when he was done the whole club cleared out very quickly along with the hot girl I was dancing with

The night continues on however and our group reunites with Clay and everyone else who are playing blackjack and drinking. I would say around 20 min after that I see 3 really tall black guys walking past us. One of them was wearing a Washington Wizards shirt and I immediately realized that they were here for the NBA Summer League that was going on in Vegas at the time. Then I look up at their faces and I know one of them right off the bat, J.P. Prince. He played basketball in college at the University of Tennessee, where I went to school at for a few years. Me being a drunk idiot, yelled out his name, ran over to him giving him a hi-five and screamed GOOOOOOOOO VOLSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! From what I remember he was loving it but who knows haha. Here is a picture of him:

Literally right after that while Bob and I are laughing hysterically at what just happened, some guy almost bumps into me. I turn around and he pats me on the shoulder while smiling and says, "Hey buddy" or something of that nature. I look him in the face and it's Mark.........................
........................fucking...............
..............................................
..............................................
CUBAN!

He is the controversial billionaire owner of the NBA team known as the Dallas Mavericks who is always giving the referees shit for those who don't know.

And I finished off the night by continuing to drink and play blackjack where I finished up $200ish or something. Sick night

That's it for Vegas....

I just moved into much a nicer, more spacious apartment with two good friends from high school in Knoxville. Still having a bit of trouble with a few things but I'm starting to get settled in pretty nicely. I wanted to post an update sooner but my laptop got a really nasty virus and I've been strugglinggg to get rid of it (on a friend's now). I ended up taking it to a computer repair shop and they fixed it along with 100 other viruses that the original one spurred up. I had to pay a one time fee of $100 with no guarantees that the virus wouldn't come back. Obviously the first day I get it back, the same one popped right back up It happened both times when I went to a site to download some new music. Oh well, guess I won't go back to that site. It's pretty weird though, because I've never had any problems with that site or my laptop in general in 1.5 years. Maybe someone on here could help me out. The virus is called "security suite" and basically acts as an anti-virus software and proceeds to block anything and everything. Really gay.....

Anyway, on the recent poker side of things, everything's been going really well. In the past few weeks, I've had 2 final tables, both in $100 rebuys. The first one I took down for $6k and the other I finished 4th for $6.8k after running pretty terribly at the end. I also won a seat in a $260 sat for the WCOOP main event worth $5.2k. I will want to be selling probably around 50-60% of myself in that and hopefully bring out my inner Sunday Mil luckboxing to hit a big score in that If you're interested in buying action for that I'll be selling at 1:1 like always, so just send me a PM if you want some.

The final piece of business I want to get to in this blog is coaching. Coaching is something I've thought about getting into for a long time but for whatever reason I never did. I myself have been coached by many different people including mez, dzoo, jamie217, and adam001. I can say it is without a doubt worth it. That isn't to say a lot of the time it isn't worth it. There are plenty of coaches out there who don't know what they're talking about or can't even beat the games their students are playing, are not very good at articulating their thoughts to others well, and are wayyyy overpriced. These are some of the reasons why I am confident I will turn out to be a good coach. Although my cash results have been pretty poor lately, I am still VERY confident that I have a big edge in the games I currently play and will try my best to prove that this month. I also feel that I am pretty good at explaining my thought processes pretty well and I post advice quite frequently in the Mid-Stakes Forum. Another part of my coaching that I think a lot of people will enjoy will be the price. Since I have never done this before, I'm going to start out charging only $50/hr. I'd rather not get into profit sharing or anything of that nature but I think you will have a hard time finding a good coach for this price anywhere else. Once again, I'm still trying to get settled into my apartment and fix my laptop ect, so I will not be able to immediately start booking sessions with future students but I hope to be at that point within a week or so. So if you're interested or would like to find out more about me or my coaching, send me a PM.

Here is my PTR for those interested in coaching : http://www.pokertableratings.com/stars-player-search/timdawg888

If anyone has any questions pertaining to my PTR, feel free to ask me about it as well.

Thanks for reading guys

Hey everyone,

Just recently been getting back to the grind. I've had pretty solid results at 100NL and will be moving back up to 200NL pretty soon.

Going to be grinding out at least 2k hands/day from here on out, playing a good amount of tournaments, and getting a few lessons from Jamie in order to get ready for PCA. If anyone wants to exchange contact info and hang out/get food while down there send me a PM.

I have 50% of my action left for sell in the main event and will also be selling 50% of myself in the 1k 6max event. There will be no markup, 1:1. I feel like I'm a solid investment and have a decent amount of live experience from playing in Vegas last summer, last years PCA, and in Barcelona this year. update
  TimDawg, Nov 23 2009

A lot of crazy things have been going on in my life lately. I had sort've a mental breakdown so to speak and my parents took me to a hospital where I was in a "rehab" for 10 days. It was a very good experience for me as there were tons of pretty fucked up people who really needed help and it made me realize how lucky I am for a lot of the things that have happened in my life.

While in "rehab" I did a ton of thinking. Playing poker exclusively for a living was fun but I think I need to go back school. I'm going to probably live with a friend and take around 12ish hours at MTSU. Also planning on putting in a lot more hours into poker.

Lately I've taken a little on again, off again break from poker and just been taking it easy on my mind. Now I'm ready to grind grind grind and hopefully I'll have decent results.

In self promotion news, I think I'm going to sell 50% of myself in the main for PCA. If you're interested in buying some, send me a PM. Also, one of my friends I met in some of the poker games in Knoxville has started his own poker site called www.neverfelted.com. It is a skin off of Cake Poker. I've never played on Cake but apparently the software is pretty similar to that and the games are all pretty soft since its a fairly new site. The site is pretty neat and has a lot of features that I think most players on LP would really like. I deposited 1k and will probably try and run it up to a 2/4 roll eventually. I'd appreciate it if you guys can make an account and refer me (knoxshane).

Also anyone wanna help me set up holdem manager through mikogo/skype/vent (ill ship $20)? I'm just really lazy and have failed setting it up the few times I tried because I'm pretty computer illiterate.

That's it for now, I'll probably post results if I can get HEM working at the end of the month.

Take it easy

Tim

embarrassed (long)
  TimDawg, Oct 28 2009

Doomer and Mezs' blogs have inspired me to write a long entry as well, here it goes:

So poker has been owning me pretty hard lately and I'm a little unsure of how to approach it honestly. 2 months ago I took some "shots" in higher buyin tournaments that I normally don't play. One of these "shots" was in Barcelona where I went with Clay and his sister. I played 2 1k's (i think), 1 2k, some super sats to the main, and a bunch of 2/5 and 5/10 euro cash. The cash games there were a JOKE. Seriously the Spainards have to be the worst poker playing culture in the world! 5/10 euro there compares to like 2NL online, it was ridiculous. I started off running pretty badly in cash losing about 2-3k euros and could never really get anything going in the first few tournaments I played in.

About the 3rd or 4th day there I played in the 2k euro, which was a lot of fun. I had William Thorsson or w/e to my right for a big part of day 1 and he was raising every hand preflop and trying to bluff everyone cus he's so awesome at poker. Everytime he would play a hand, I would just think of Saki's rant blog about him and just lol in my head. I ended up doing really well in day 1 and had around 60k (750/1500/100 blinds i think) going into day 2 with 40ish left and 27 making the money.

After day 2 started, I busted in 4 hands. 1st one I fold some trash utg+2, 2nd I min-raise up A9s from utg+1 and crazy looking euro guy calls in MP. I double barrel a QxxK board and he tanked forever on the turn and shoved on me, fml oh well. Next hand I get AK utg and min-r again, folds to older man euro in bb and he flats, I missed flop and it goes ck/ck, then he bets a blank turn and I fold. My bustout hand I pick up AK in the BB and good online player raises utg and the same crazy euro looking guy flats in mp, I have a little over 20bb's left, so I just ship it in. Online guy folds his QJs right away obv and then the euro tanks again forever. I tell him I'm on massive tilt and want to be knocked out. This tilts him into calling me with 22. First card on flop was a 2 and I was out. BIG SIGH.....first was around 150k euros too...oh well.

From there on out, I just grinded a bunch of cash and a few more tourneys maybe. I had no success in them but I did manage to grind back all my losses from tournaments in cash, so as far as poker playing goes, I broke even on the trip which isn't too bad I guess. Overall was a pretty exciting trip and I def learned a lot more about poker from talking with Clay and a few others.

When I got back from Barcelona, I was super motivated to grind big tournaments and take more shots at 3/6. Well in short, I ran terribly and maybe played a tad spewy in certain spots in the WCOOP series (bubbled like 3). My 3/6 shot also went terrible as I lost 7k in about 2k hands (4k below EV). Also just been getting owned at 2/4 on ftp and stars recently. I think I've been a bit spewy lately and on ftp, I sorta just assumed the regs would play the same as on stars, which doesn't seem to be true at all.

The one positive thing lately has been staking. I've staked 2 of my good friends irl to play in a 2/4 game back where I use to live in TN. They've both had mixed results but they're both improving a ton and starting to make me a bit of money. Also, I've been staking strato for a bunch of sunday tournaments and he had a sick 10k+ score, so that was nice too.

Since then, my bad run has continued and I think I'm going to do what Clay did to regain focus and motivation to play. Going to move down to 100NL on Stars and only move up once I have made 20 buyins at each level. I'll probably post results if they are pretty to look at lol. We'll see how it goes.

Also I run terrible with women lately and I hate them all. f m l

really awesome song nolan sent me on aim
