Just to keep track - graph for july

Without tournament winnings, this would have been my first losing month :S

I know I would have been around 10 buyins up without losing so many flips and getting bad beats so I'm not too worried - just find it hard to find motivation to play when it keeps happening

General Frustration
  Yaffie, Jul 30 2008

Since yesterday I'm restricting myself to 4 tables for the whole of august (I usually play 6-8). I feel like I've got longer to make decisions but I really don't know if I need that extra time. I havn't played many hands 4-tabling yet, but I find it so hard not to fire up more tables when I keep losing flips.

I could feel myself tilting after the following hands happened within about 30 minutes so I've stopped. I'm pretty sure that's just turned July into a losing month (not counting tourney winnings)! Waheyyyy

Why do i consistently run like shit at NL25 yet absolutely rape NL10 every time i go back to it. Fucking pisses me off

Update + PB Longest Session
  Yaffie, Jul 25 2008

After that awesome downswing during the 2xvpp bollocks in week 1 of july, i was away for a couple of weeks, 1 of which i didn't even have internet access.

It was a cool couple of weeks tho - spent the first living with my uni flatmate + fellow LPer PRO_rANDY. i got to see the delights of Bolton town centre and the Trafford Centre! The second week, I moved some of my things into my new flat, and spent the time with my girlfriend. I'm really liking it compared to the old one. Good location, sexy exposed wood panelling in my bedroom, brand new boiler and sofas provided by the landlord! Excellent.

So needless to say i didn't clock in many hands. I've been trying to make up for it this week - spurred on by the 40% reload deposit bonus + maintaining silver status for the month.

I went straight back to NL25 and really have been running pretty shit. I don't wana moan but I've had some pretty sick beats and can't think of a single hand where I've sucked out. Anyway I can't complain as I'm up 6 buyins for the week.

Longest personal session:

from about 11pm to 5.30am last night, with a little break in between, varying from 1 table to 8 tables. I was down 4 buyins at one point, after losing 3 flips for pots over 200BB, as well as losing QQ vs 55 all in pf, but managed to end up +2 buyins so I was very pleased with that. AND I DIDNT TILT. go me

i should also say how much fun I had playing with LPer night2o1 for a lot of that session and thank him for introducing me to a complete donk. ha!

MTT cash:

came 8th in a 3000 man $5 freezeout tuesday night for $240 so that's a very welcome addition to my bankroll. I was pretty gutted that I didn't do better - was 5th in chips when I 3bet all in pf with JJ against A9 and he made a questionable call to hit an ace on the turn

Couple more sessions and I've maintained silver status. GL

2x VPP Awesomeness
  Yaffie, Jul 07 2008

NOT!

You know when you clip your shoulder walking thru a doorframe, avoiding the dog who thinks the best place to sit in your house is right in that spot? And just half an hour ago you had your 15th nosebleed of the week, simply from sneezing out the 14th blood clot. And in another 45 minutes you can be sure your going to burn yourself changing a lightbulb that clearly shouldnt be THAT hot. Just me?

Well that's what this weekend felt like - i'm going along ok ok ok then OUCH BABY YOUVE JUST CUT ME A LITTER DEEPER.

Not going to bother posting hands. I think it speaks for itself that 4 of my biggest losing hands for 3 big 10-12 tabling sessions were AA, KK, QQ and AK.

I was feeling so confident too, having found NL25 FR was so so crushable, getting to a stage where i felt i was a few sessions away from being rolled for NL50. End of weekend I'm only a few buyins away from being underolled

Back to NL10 for a little while just to get some confidence. Had 1 short session this evening and the players were so weak and it's a very nice feeling when I'm playing 26/22 and am really able to play without scared money. That's definately something I need to work on when I move up stakes in the future.

June
  Yaffie, Jun 29 2008

So June's been my best month by far. I've more than doubled my bankroll, and am now very comfortably rolled for NL25 now. I'm not sure if it's a backwards step moving to full ring NL25 but it seems to have helped. I've tightened up slightly, abusing position more and taking advantage of the fact that the full ring nits are SO tight - you can just see from the graph below that the swings at full ring are a lot lower:

Targets I set myself have almost been reached. I made silver status and nearly made the 45 NL10 buyins that I wanted. I'm sure I could have done so but I've hardly played this past week since making silver. Lazy bastard.

I got my 2nd year uni results a few days ago, (i study structural engineering and architecture), and got a 2.1 overall. I suppose I'm quite pleased but for the amount of work I put in towards the end of the academic year, I'd have liked slightly higher marks.

My girlfriend's coming down to London tomorrow for the week so june is over and I'm looking forward to hopefully progressing from NL25 to NL50 in july.

Cheers,

Adam

Nitring
  Yaffie, Jun 25 2008

Other than my previous blog where I mentioned how hot i was running, my winrate at NL25 has been slow. It's going up, but slow. Like 3BB/100 which aint good enough for me.

I was thinking about what was going wrong, and the main problem I seem to have, is when I'm faced with a similarly agressive opponent - someone who floats/raises every cbet and is willing to play for stacks every hand. I tighten up, but I think too much and end up losing 30BB pots more often than winning.

SO I thought i'd have a go at playing full ring NL25. I've never played full ring before but it seemed to make sense if I play best when I'm in control of the agression and I've heard how tight full ring is.

Within the first 50 hands, these happened:

+ Show Spoiler +

Excellent

But I carried on and it really seemed a lot easier. I was 10 tabling easy, whereas I usually feel my game suffers if I play more than 6 tables 6 max. I played my usual TAG style, just tighter oop and it really did work. Ended up a couple of buyins up and could have easily been 4/5 without the above hands.

Maybe this is the way forward for me?

Update
  Yaffie, Jun 13 2008

2nd year at university is OVER! Had my last exam on wednesday which went pretty well. I'm on a high 2:1 from last semester and coursework from the current semester, which I'm fairly pleased with. I should get my exam results within the month.

So I made myself a little goal of trying to make 1.5 buyins a day at NL10 over june. I knew I wouldnt be able to clock too many hands as I still had to work but I managed that quite easily and soon enough I hit $500 a few days ago. Sooooo I'm having my first pop at NL25 with this bankroll. Going good so far. Running at just over 5BB/100 over a small sample of hands.

It doesn't feel too different to NL10 - people seem to float cbets more often and are slightly more agressive but I feel like I've adjusted quite well and have a good feel for which players are capable of making any moves and which are just mashing the raise button when they hit. It still amazes me how many people slowplay monster hands - they could take so much more of my stack if they wanted

I'm moving back home to London on tuesday and should be able to play as much poker as I can stomach. I'd like to make silver status this month but it might be a bit late. We shall see

Oh also it's kinda funny playing LP members on PS (recognised by their avatars). They play SO much ABC poker at these stakes that they're easier to exploit than the fishes!

Back in business
  Yaffie, May 17 2008

Finished my monster block of work yesterday. I don't think I've ever worked so hard in my life. Literally 9am-1am for about a week so I had my architecture presentation ready as well as a big fuck off piece of multistorey office tower design ready to hand in. I've still got a lot to do with a couple of exams coming up, but at least it means I can get back on the tables.

Had my first proper session this morning. Lost 2 buyins both with AA in like 10 minutes but ended up a buyin up. Also used some of my current winnings to buy PT3, so I don't expect to be moving up to NL25 as soon as I would have hoped.
