Poker is fun
  DustySwedeDude, Aug 01 2009

My like goal for August was to have a nice, solid winning month playing a lot of hands and just grind my way into good results. Now, 30 hours into the new month, I feel that I might have to up my targets a bit. Fwiw I don't think this winrate is sustainable, after all, it's only Saturday once a week.

It's 6-max with some HU. Mostly 2/4, some 3/6, one bigish herocall, one 500bb pot, some profanities and random zooming that I don't understand. Think it's fairly educational. Give me some comments.

Taking K2o4's advice
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 30 2009

Had my best month ever by far, don't think I'll swing more then like 2-3k tomorrow and tonight since I'm fairly tired and probably won't play more then like 5k hands at most and probably not too much 10/20. Made ~3 times what I had hopped for which puts me about 30k€ ahead of schedule since I started out playing poker full time in early June. Also reached another milestone and celibrated by giving 50k SEK (~4.5k€) each to my parents. Felt really good and one of my current goals is to make sure that they both can retire with enough money to live comfortably when they turn 60 (in 3 resp. 4 years). To be honest it feels good from a purely intellectual point of view, but also as a way to get rid of the feeling of almost guilt from considering 2-3k€ or whatever they might make in a month "a lost flip" or whatever. And I do note the irony of buying myself free of the guilt I feel when I spew money IRL, but fuck it, it works.

Goals for August are:

Get hold of and start reading Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke, Swedish Poker Author Dan Glimne recommended it and even if I've long considered him a fairly obsolete nit as far as poker goes he really changed my mind when I spoke to him. The old man is really nice, cool and into sci/fi. Also seems to love Heinlein, which makes him a hero in my book.

Play enough hands to get Unibet to by me into Unibet Open Prague, and preferably at least 2k hands/day whenever it's reasonable otherwise too.

Make lots of money. Despite withdrawing a lot since I feel more comfortable having the bulk of my money on stock trading sites and in the bank I'm only a few solid months away from having a Bankroll play 10/20 even when the games are just "so-so" which would probably help me get much better much faster. I've really gotten a lot better the last months or so and I feel that I've probably got a really good shot at making A LOT of money the next 12 months or so.

I'll probably record a video tomorrow. Mostly for my own entertainment since I haven't recorded anything in a while and it makes me all warm and fuzzy to know that people actually likes to watch and listen to me explain shit. It'll probably be something like "how to fuck with 2/4 TAGfish 101" but I'm open for suggestions.

Awesome!
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 27 2009

Actually feeling rather awesome right now. Actually had enough sleep tonight since I I didn't feel like playing a ton of cash games yesterday. Got 8th at prima's Sunday donkament instead for like 2.9k or something. Ran like Jesus on steroids early while playing like shit and then in the end when I needed it I lost with JJ vs AA once and vs AK 3 times in the last hour, heh. Can't complain I guess, but it felt rather weird. Whatever, still 3k for couple of hours of work which obvious is really fun. Was really cool with the rail too since the rail always hates me. I told them I had learned poker by watching Phill Hellmuth videos on youtube and such and I think like a few of them actually believed me.

Just sat down and watched the latest episode of Entourage which was fairly decent. They always say how that show is really about male friendship and such and I feel that I'll have to agree with that. I don't care much for the cars, I care a little bit more for the eye candy and I rather enjoy Ari's rants but it's still mostly the feeling of comfort that's cool with it.

As far as cash games goes I've play a ton the last week or so. Been doing decent, but I'm mostly happy to get hands in so that I'll get invited to Unibet Open Prague.

The coolest hand so far is obviously this one:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/721907

Half the people I show it to goes like; "LOL MISSCLICK!" but I actually called pretty fast putting him on a 6 without reflecting on the fact that most 6's in fact beats me. Too much red bull does that to you sometimes.

This one is a cool example of what you can do against people who can't valuebet for shit:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/722103

This guy was fairly tilted, didn't really think I was ahead that much though:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720684

Quads are fun:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/720193

Another cool calldown

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/719990

So overall you can just consider me a sick calling station.

I think I'm up roughly twice as much as my best month before this one, so it's really nice considering I'm supposed to be a full time pro now. I'm really happy with this and even though I'm not playing my A game 9-tabling 2/4-10/20 I feel that I get a decent bit of experience and many new notes that will pay off in the future. The cool thing is that I'm actually up like 10bi on 10/20 during the last week or so which probably makes me lifetime winner on that limit too. Half a year from now I hope to be somewhat of a reg up there, but I need to get better HU before I can really get there I think. Too hard to get enough hands in if you don't start up tables against other regs and such, and I still feel rather inferior against the best regs there.

Been listening a lot to The Kinks lately. Really unappreciated band. If you like classic rock and such you'd better check them out. A couple of recommendations:

Heart of Gold - (not a Neil Young cover) Really sweet balladish song.

Lola - Classic rock song about some guy who goes home with a tranny. "Where you drink champange and it tastes just like cherry cola" rhymes with "Lola".

Mirror Of Love - S/M weird song that starts out really good but then I think they're singing about some guy instead of a girl which makes it slightly disturbing. Unless you're into that.

Apeman - Wonderfull song about apes and men and such and how nice it'd be to live on some desolated island just eating, resting and fucking.

Unibet is the nuts
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 23 2009

Ok, first of all, I don't get anything for writing this, as far as I know no one at Unibet reads my blog and whatever else crap one is supposed to write in the beginning. Consider this a recommendation from your favourite midstakes Sweede (except Pinball, he's arguably a funnier person then me, and saki might've won more money for people, so like, I guess I'm 3rd).

If you want to play on Prima, play on Unibet. It might take them a while, but when they consider you an important costumer they treat you really, really good. They are always polite, the VIP-support has been working super well for the last year or so and God knows I've been giving them some shit about short stacks, how the hell one is supposed to get from Heathrow in the middle of the night and if they could kindly please turn of my fucking doomswitch. Variations of that has been sent from my E-mail with and phone with a pretty high frequency for the last maybe 18 months and I've yet to get one even slightly rude reply. If something is fucked up, you tell them and they do their best to fix it. At least on two occasions I know that they've gone out of their way to check out pretty obscure requests and tried to find alternative solutions when the platform (microgaming) wouldn't do shit about stuff.

Overall I'd like to say that as long as nothing to extreme happens and S and M (heh, I'll just call then S&M from now on, hadn't thought of that before) are left as the VIP-support for Sweden there's no way I'll use any other site as my "main site" (although, FTOPS are fun).

As for poker they told me that if I could get 45 VIP-points in a month (roughly 70k hands of 5/10, I think) they'll put me in Unibet Open Prague for free. So I figured I had to start grinding. The last 51 hours or so I've played 10k hands. Down a lot in 2/4, 3/6 and 5/10 but up more in 10/20. Overall I'm having my best month ever with a lot of margin so I'm contemplating posting a rather sick graph at the end of the month.

Trip Report
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 20 2009

Trip Report, Unibet London

So many impressions, so much fun. Dunno were to start. Someone said that ”the beginning” might works so I'll go with that. I got on a plane ton London late Wednesday afternoon and despite me being slightly afraid of heights me for some reason I took the place by the window. Our first decision was that on the way home he'd sit by the window and I could be busy closing my eyes and reciting “If..” by Kipling in my head. That poems is basically a lot of statements starting with “If” and “if you can” etc and then it ends with; “Yours is the earth and everything that's in it, and – which is more, you'll be a man, my son!”. It really speaks to me since I like the stoic undertones and as far as people I look up too and try to listen to as long as he should have some idea about it my father is probably the first I can think of, so the ending that explains that it's a father figure talking to his son probably gets me a bit too. The passage I kept coming back to was;

“If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,”

and I figured that even though I've never had chlamydia (also halfway relevant later) and so far I haven't been to Ireland I've had a pretty decent life and if the plane was to crash, well, it could've been worse. The flight went fine though and we got to Heathrow without any problems worthy of mentioning. From there I decided, in all my wisdom, that we should take a cab. Now the flight was fairly ok, 5 minutes of me closing my eyes and looking like a retard. No problem, no worse then getting a bad blow job from someone you're a bit afraid might have shape teeth and a temper. This however, was really crazy. YOU GUYS DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD! Also, the driver had a habit of ignoring traffic rules and solve all deputes (of which it was quite a few) by giving other cars the finger. Thought I was for sure going to die. Since some heavenly father, Lady Luck or more probably superman was watching me and keeping me safe we got to the hotel without in one piece. Since this trip I consider my life a freeroll, I clearly should be dead. Said hi to some unibet people, got to the room, played some Dota with my friend and got to bed. To not be kicked from the Nordic games I flooded the chats with statements about how much my network sucked and how it kept saying I was from great Britain which was sooooo super weird. Suckers.

“If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, “

Got up the next day, rather tired but not to bad and we went for some English breakfast on the way to the Casino. The eggs, bacon, beans and such was nice but English sausages seems to suck a fat one (please no jokes etc). Also ordered Coffe which sucked even worse. Only way to get decent coffe in england seems to be to import it yourself. The tournament started, everything seemed fine except that when I sat down some dude in a cardrunner's hoodie looked kinda familiar so I introduced myself as a Cardrunners member and he told me he was Timex. Great. Guess who's videos I've been watching to learn how to play donkaments? Ohh well. He was supernice and I talked to him some more later on the airport. Owned me pretty hard in the tournament, but whatever. It happens. I coldflattet QQ vs a EP 3bet, flop came Q98r 3way and someone bet/shoved 98o vs me and I got the early chip lead. Then I flopped a set of 888 on A87ss as the UTG-raiser vs the bb who had called me with T9o.. The obvious turn and I was back to just over my starting stack. I also met fazi which was nice. Sad that I couldn't hang out more with him. A couple of misreported hands were I sucked out on shortstacks and some stealing later I had maybe 30ish k (starting stack was 10k) and moved table.

I think me and Timex busted almost all people form the original table who didn't get moved. So great, the only guy I wanted to get rid of stays until the table breaks, and had me covered almost all the time. New table was better. Got next to drunk finish dude Markus who was supernice and we both managed to chip up a little bit. Play ended, I borrowed the fin like 300£ or so for some omaha game he wanted to sit in and went get some food. My roommate was in a 1 / 2 £ game and I had half his action. He told me he had missed in total 2 hands during 13 hours of live play and was up 500 or so. Got back with the food and he was down 70. A worse sucker for flush draws are hard to find. Had some meat and salad that tasted really good at the casino, went home and got some sleep. Woke up the next day at 3 pm when the hotel people called us and wondered if we intended to get away so that they could clean our room up. We took a trip to Regent's Park and it was really cool. Got some nice pics I'll upload some day. Then we went home, got my money back from the Fin, ran into Pulda and Blizzy and went for a drink with some Unibet person. Drink was nice, Unibet person was nice and but I still excused myself after a while to go hang with the Slovakians. Had some champange, beer and such at the hotel bar, then we got hold of a deck of cards but no chips and we were to many to play chinese so I just logged on to prima and did some serious drunk-stoomping while Pulda mostly cried for me to “PLEASE DON'T CALL” and Blizzy looked somewhat appreciative of my 4way floats with K-high and such. Their friend Martin (?) seemed to feel that something has to be wrong with these stupid kids. Had a lot of fun and got to bed at about 7am. Got up at 11am and got some food before day 2. Hungover as hell I go say hi to Zografa who was also in the tournament. Sat down at my table and saw that Ket was two seats to my left and that he had a big stack. Introduced myself and tried, without much luck, got get him to pronounce my name. We agreed that “Dusty” probably would work just as well. Ket was shitting all over the table so I had to be semi-tight and after like 2-3 hours I shoved KTs over a raise for like 30bb (was antes) and some guy who I think won some earlier Unibet Open tank/called 99. Flopped a king, he rivered a 9. Just as well, was hungover and felt like crap anyway.

“If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same”

I thanked everyone around the table for a good time, shook their hands grabbed the glas of wine I had ordered while I waited for the guy to call my shove and grabbed my roomie. Kinda wanted to stay and rail Ket for a while but I wanted some food. Called up the support people and asked them what was up. They told me they were going to the London Eye and would then grab some food. I obviously grabbed a shirt and we jumped into a cap and found them. Got a pic with the Swedish former greco/roman wrestler Ara Abramhovic who was supernice and then I refused to go on the London Eye and went and got coffee and a sandwich instead. Then we all went to some really cool buffé on top of some building in central London and then got to some club quite close to Piccadilly circus with an open bar. Got home like 3-4amish due to an open bar and got home the next day. Felt like shit, woke up with 3 packs of cigarettes in my pocket (I don't smoke...) and checked out. Got to see Hyde Park that afternoon and took a late plane home. Ran into Timex on the airport and talked to him about some hands for 5 minutes.

Overall I had a ton of fun and I'd like to say thanks to my roomie, all the Unibet people, Markus, Pulda, Blizzy, Martin, Zografa, Fazi, Ket, e3ro, GutsforGators (or whatever his name is) and everyone else who made this trip a total blast. I would've liked to hang out some more with everyone (especially Fazi and maybe talk to Ket for 10 min) but as the great philosopher Jagger once said; you can't always get what you want.

Also, I recommend all british people visit Sweden. Our girls are much hotter

I r has a chart
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 18 2009

So I asked Pulda and Blizzy if anyone knew about this ICM/M/MTT and stuff and Pulda said he knew it. He printed me some chart about how many bb's I could shove from what position with different stack sizes. That'll own. I think Ket and Zografa from LP is still in, then some decent live pros from Sweden and some other live players. Other then that I think it's mostly randoms.

Made it through day 1a
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 16 2009

Had a really crappy table for the big part of the day with a bigstacked Mike Macdonald (timex) to my left, some 5/10 reg I know a bit to the left of him and then some 50/100 player from bossmedia or whatever in the next seat. Got my fair share of cards during the earlier levels and despite some suboptimal play due to random factors including my lack of live experience I played fairly tight and ran good enough. I think the day started with like 113 players or something and it's 27 left now. I'm in place like 13 or something with a little less then average. Have 37k going into day 2 with blinds of 500/1k and a 100 or 200 ante. Not quite sure. 150? Whatever. I guess I can steal a bit to begin with and then just tighten up and reshove on people. I guess like 60-70 people will make it to day 2, and maybe top 25-30ish will get ITM so when I'm rested again I think I'll bring the out the big guns and see if I can make a run for it or at least go out in a blaze of glory.

http://www.unibetopen.com/2009/07/16/it-just-gets-better-and-better/#respond - Althought, to be fair I had QTo.

Also played the sexiest hand of my life.Miss Belgium minraised UTG, I flatcalled AcTx on the button, blinds folded. Flop comes KcQcXc, UTG checks, I stare at her, ehh, eyes for like 30 seconds and then I bet like 2/3rds pot. She folds pretty quickly

Unibet Open
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 16 2009

So I'll play day 1a today. Swapped 5% with zografa, fazi and pulda.

Flight here was scary. I don't like flying. I'm scared of it. It was ok though, compared to the taxi we took from Paddington Central to the Hotel. The driver was batshit insane, if I hadn't struggled so not to shit myself it'd been the funniest thing ever. The hotel is a little bit to nice for my taste, but whatever. Can't always get what you want, as the great philosopher Jagger once said.

I*m of to find breakfast now. Which me luck.

Live strategy
  DustySwedeDude, Jul 14 2009

So yea, I'd like to be more comfortable with my live game. I came up with a plan. Everytime anyone tries to talk to me about anything remotely related to poker, hands or whatever I'll try to quote Ash from Evil Dead/Army of Darkness, because after all, is there anyone even remotely as bad-ass as him? Here's a couple of examples from imdb:

"Well hello Mister Fancypants. Well, I've got news for you pal, you ain't leadin' but two things, right now: Jack and shit... and Jack left town."

"Come get some"

"Hail to the king, baby"

"Honey, you got reeeal ugly!"

"Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun. " (maybe change the gun to the chips or whatever and Good/bad to Aces/Air)

When I think about it sounds so incredible stupid though. How can that be?

Havn't played much last few day. Breakevenish today due to faggot (aka TAG-reg) sucking out with A8s vs Ako on 10/20. Been watching a ton of MTT-vids and I feel I've learned a few things. Played some limit on FTP too. Pretty fun, but really swingy.
