EDIT: WHINE DELETED! WHINE NOT ALLOWED UNLESS I'M STUCK A TON FOR THE MONTH.

Need help. Anyone want to figure out how I get this done:

"To change your COM port open device manager, and expand "Ports".
Open the properties for COM-1, select the "port settings" tab and click on the "advanced" button.
Change the port to COM2 in the pull-down box, click ok, and click OK again to close the properties."

There's no damn "Ports"-tab in my device manager. Wtf?

Don't have money on FTP right now but I can probably get couple of dollars there kind fast to send as a reward and/or help out with some poker stuff or whatever if someone figures this out. I WANT TO PLAY SETTLERS 2! VISTA IS GAY!

edit again: fixed it. Now how do I get dos-stuff to work in full screen?

Goals for Mars:

60k hands (got a birthday, an exam and some other stuff so I can't grind that much).
20k profit before I move back up to 5/10+
Work out 16 times (4 times/week)
Not getting drunk to much.
Pass exams.

Stuff
  DustySwedeDude, Feb 21 2010

ok, so things are looking up. Probably around 25k ish under ev still but whatever, been that for a while now so I'm basically running okish the last week. Playing decent enough too I think, and for the first time in a while I feel that my NL-game is decent.

Finally got my ass to the gym this morning, did not bet on UFC which was good since I was sure that Nog would win, on my way to a decent poker month, school is going decent I guess. What could I ever complain about?

I guess maybe this one:

Also started a blog in Swedish, mostly to write random crap that amuses me about poker, MMA, life, movies and music. It's here http://dubierochdobbleri.wordpress.com/ for anyone who wants to take a look at it. Actually had a semi-popular blog a couple of years ago, but some girl told some guy that she'd send her friends and kill him and I started to feel that it was no fun anymore.

Mid Month Update
  DustySwedeDude, Feb 15 2010

Poker

Still running like shit, HS-shots doesn't work out. My NL-game might be a little off but in the omaha sessions I think I've been +ev, at least 2/3 sessions (and probably all 3, but I'll give it the benefit of doubt) but the cards just won't do what they should. PLO400 is also just lol, I guess I spew a lot there overall but it'd be fun if I could win one damn flip. Also, since Appleturk seems to read my blog I'd like to state that yes he tends to own me and no that doesn't bother me to much. He seems to be such an angry person so it's good that he at least makes money playing poker instead of getting in drunken brawls and such.

Funny thing is that I'm actually showing a slight profit so far, despite those number, thanks to bonuses and such. Omaha rake is very high, I guess.

I guess I'll probably either grind mid stakes for a while or put down the number of tables and figure a few things out by actually paying attention to stuff.

Random anecdote about friends

Jocke, the guy I know who seems most attractive to girls per looks (ie: gets more action despite questionable looks) takes the same course as me this semester. This is fairly funny since I was sure he was probably in a ditch somewhere drinking his life away. I like him, he's easy going and fun to hang out with.

School

Fucked, might've fucked up a little test due to not sleeping the night be fore in favor of reading sci/fi classics. Looked at my quick notes with calcs I made and I'm fairly sure that 20*40 isn't 400... Doesn't matter though, just a small one and I can redo it in a month or so.

BJJ/Health/whatever

Been doing BJJ 3 times a week, havn't worked out more then that. I guess I'll try to go to the gym tommorow. For some reason my sleep schedual is all fucked up though, which kinda sucks. I might take a break from the hardcore grinding, go down to maybe 3hrs/day poker and make sure to actually get around to hit the gym once or twice every week. Sounds good.

Oh well, I guess I'm just not meant to have win a lot of money this month. ~25k€ under equity and no damn end in sight. But fuck it, I'm still up a little bit and everything else is working out fine. Should probably stop taking shots, hmm. At least until Lady Luck stops trying to sodomize me with a iron strap on.

Just realised I was happy earlier today. That was nice. Who the hell cares about money anyone? It's just small pieces of paper with old people and number on them.

The Killing Time
  DustySwedeDude, Feb 10 2010

Under blue moon I saw you
So soon you'll take me
Up in your arms, too late to beg you
Or cancel it though
I know it must be
The killing time
Unwillingly mine

Granted, it's not all A+ poker but I've played pretty good. All in all about 27k€ under equity in 10 days. I will, however, consider this a brag rather then a whine since I've actually made money during this period if I include the rakeback/cashback/whatever they like to call it I'll get for it.

On the whole I don't care for this running bad business though, and I'm worried that the fact that I've encountered it might actually make me more prone to run bad again. Earlier I just assumed that getting sucked out, missing draws and such was what other people did but that it didn't really apply to me, and as the great philosopher Pratchett stated; "It is well known that a vital ingredient of success is not knowing that what you're attempting can't be done. A person ignorant of the possibility of failure can be a halfbrick in the path of the bicycle of history."

May you live in interesting times
  DustySwedeDude, Jan 31 2010

Ok so this is an summary of January and some goals I have for February. Haven't posted anything like this in a while cause the results of the last few months was to depressing.

Just going to play some MTT's tonight and then start grinding after midnight since I Unibet will give me a UO package for UO Bulgaria if I rake enough during the next two months.

Thus:

January

Profit: Much higher then my "goal" despite dropping 15k€ yesterday. With cashback and such it's still more then dubble what I needed to be on schedule. So that's good.

Hands: only 56k hands, which is much less then I wanted but since I had 4 exams and also been taking up BJJ 3evenings/week and some random Thai boxing I feel that it's decent anyway.

Overall play and such: I played good most of the time, had a couple of bad sessions and I did not follow my stop loss rules. I did, however, tilt less then normal. The last thing might be because of the fact that I was up a ton for the month most of the time. Overall decent play but bad discipline.

And so I've turned a big winning month into something of a failure, lol. Hard to feel to sad though, but I definitely need to work on it.

Goals in february:

- 80k hands, 2/4 and higher. Preferably mostly omaha. No 10/20+ 6-max or 5/10+ HU against anything but really soft opposition if I play more then 7tables.

- Keep a good Winrate (5bb/100+ at least) playing mid stakes. Play good when I happen to play higher.

Other then poker:

- BJJ or the gym 5 times a week whenever possible, the month is 4 weeks so anything 18 and over I'll consider a win.

- Continue to eat healthy. "Bad food" no more then once every week, preferably less, and no getting drunk. Only drink alcohol when social considerations dictates so (ie: hanging out with friends) and no more then twice this month. Preferably no more then 2 beers.

- Not fall behind in school (however, I study economics which is a big joke, so that shouldn't be a problem as long as I actually take 10-15 min/day and read the stupid book).

- Learn a decent bit of Yoga stuff.

- Help out with
Intresting Times, a magazine about lots of fun stuff, and actually write something good for them. I wrote some fluff stuff that really sucked for the first or second issue but now it's starting to take off a bit and it actually contains some fairly interesting stuff. The "about" page says this about the magazine:

Interesting Times is a self-help magazine for extreme people, helping you survive and thrive in the cyberpunk future of today. Headquartered in Sweden, the magazine provides a unique perspective on the current age of possibility, where every new happening holds the potential for both disaster and groundbreaking success. The magazine aims to implement total world domination using a shock & awe toolbox of positive thinking, power armor and pornstar girlfriends, edifying the reader with an eclectic mix of interesting subjects including lifestyle design, preparations for the post-apocalypse, and the pursuit of superhuman fitness through batmanesque bodyhacking. Building better bad-asses is our main objective and we aim to please. The suck stops here!

Dude who's behind it is a really inspiring person who actually goes through with a ton of self improvement stuff and even though I personally suspect that he's a little bit of a crazy person with something in his brain working a bit different from most of I for one tend to keep an eye on most things he gets involved in because a fairly high % of it turns out awesome or hilarious. The rest is just weird.

I'll end this by posting some of the most notable hands of the month here. Some of them are fairly weird/fun/stupid.

Dusty the Headless Poker Player
  DustySwedeDude, Jan 30 2010

I ran bad today, didn't care for it much. Wrote a poem to fix it. Wonder if it'll work.

Who's draw that hit I think I know,
His straight is in the hand is though
He will not see me betting here
To watch his nose fill up with blow.

The little fish must think it queer
To stop without a river card near
Between his stack and smiling face
The easiest laydown of the year

He looks around with a small shake
To ask if there is some mistake
The only other sound's the sweep
Of easy girls and ”funny” cake

This game is cruel, dark and deep.
But I have Lady Luck to keep,
And cards to catch before I sleep,
And cards to catch before I sleep,

And it case it sucked too bad I'd like to ad my current favourite song. Keep me in your heart by Warren Zevon

Fairly nice tribute to him. He died like 8 years ago or something and I don't really think he got the attention he deserved.

In case someone wants to check him out I made a little playlist with a few of his best songs here:

http://open.spotify.com/user/dammk%c3%a4rlek/playlist/5xT3zrdXaUq8kWIJURqtwg

Personal favourites except for the song above right now is probably "The French Inhaler", which may or may not be written about some girl he knew, and "Things to do in Denver when your dead".

All I really want to do
  DustySwedeDude, Jan 24 2010

[I don't want to straight-face you
Race or chase you, track or trace you
Or disgrace you or displace you
Or define you or confine you
All I really want to do
Is, baby, be friends with you]

Lady Luck has finally returned to me. Well today she left me for a while to go have fun with the pool guy, but over she's been very good to me this month. I've also, finally, learned to play decently pf in omaha which really pays off and I've also started to own some souls:

+ Show Spoiler +

But to be fair that guy won a few bi off me, ironically when I actually flopped or turned good. And yes, I know that call is marginal, and it's not something I have to have in my game to be profitable, but you need to trust your reads sometimes.

Had a real good time last night playing some 10€ tournaments with some friends. I think I won one and got 4th in one, missplayed one hand really bad though. I keep forgetting that I should probably try to make sure that people have fun rather then winning money when the first prize is like 50€, heh.

Started watching true blood this morning too, it seems fairly cool. Little bit weird but whatever, I'm a sucker for vampires (pun intended) in culture. I also like southern accent's and pretty blond girls in white tight T-shirts. Although, if I had to pick I'd change her hair colour.

As for music I've listened to The Byrds a lot. Their Dylan covers are really cool. The song mentioned above, "all I really want to do" is nice but I still don't really get what Dylan or the Birds tries to say with it. My best guess is that it isn't about some girl or whatever, but rather something Dylan sang to as a tribute to some genre or whatever he happened to get hung up with at the time and then the Birds just said "whatever" and rerecorded it for ratings. And it sure as hell wasn't about Lady Luck, but it sure felt that way when I heard it after my first little heater after 2 months of losing money like a sex addict at a hooker convention. The times they are a-changin' are one of my favorite songs, and The Byrds version are decent. Mr. Tambourine man can't be fucked up to badly either, at least not if you sing it with some feeling.

Also bought some Yoga-stuff. I want to get limber as hell. BJJ is so fun but I feel that "out of shape, limber as a pine and without much coordination to speak of" probably couldn't be a description of a good BJJ-practitioner, so I simply have to do something about that.

You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'
  DustySwedeDude, Jan 18 2010

Ok so out of 4 different exams I took last week I'm fairly sure I aced one, passed on, probably past a third and fucked up a forth. For the last one I just tried to read stuff that looked important (was like +800 pages of stuff for it, and considering all the other stuff I had to pick and choose) and picked the wrong stuff.

Started watching a fair bit of ”Black books” which is a great TV-show, mostly thanks to this guy:

It's awesome! I really love the show which is kind of ironic since I try not to drink much anymore. Probably going to give up everything except maybe wine (but only with food) and whiskey, which is God's gift to to Irish and Scottish, and co-incidently the most awesome thing made on those otherwise God-forsaken islands. Dunno how long I'll hold to that but whatever, trying to get in shape. Hoping to lose 15ish pounds or so before the summer. Will be doing BJJ or Thaiboxing 5 days a week which is really awesome and I'm eating super healthy right now. The interesting part is if I can keep it up...

Anyway, here's a clip from that show:

Other then that I had the first lecture on my economics class today, and man, those student are stupid. At least the ones tries to answer questions. My roomie said some stuff I've made fun of him for all day and he was probably the least retarded as far as statements goes. The teacher tried used an example that was clearly to show one specific point he'd talked about for 10 minutes and the next 15 minutes are spent listening to retard ass students who starts a sentence with; ”But if...” and tries to change the example just to show fuck all. I've said my fair share of stupid crap in law school, and heard even worse, but if someone tried to pull that crap there I'm fairly sure the teacher would just ask him to either shut up or leave. At least most of them.

Poker's going decent, not really taking off but I'll probably have a solidish month. Lot's of swings though so can't say for certain. Omaha is a cruel game but I'm getting the hang of it, or at least some of it. It's ridiculous how fast I learn, mostly because I (like almost everyone else) suck something horrid at it to begin with.

Also I'm like halfway sure that some girl I'm getting to know either is a ghost or has like a secret identity to protect her from crazy stalkers. I will update if I encounter ninjas.

Happiness rating: 7.4.
