At least I think it's #3, might actually be #4, i've lost count. NL5 rush, announced the 4 outer gutshot villain needed to hit to make his straight vs my set, allin on flop, boom gutshot on the river. Mike tyson punched the screen, wont turn back on. Although it wasnt snap tilt. I had already lost 5 allin's (one-tabling) in under 100 hands so my hands were already shaking at the keyboard. I think losing a stack every 20 hands or every 2 minutes is enough to rattle anyone. Whats worse I was $2 from hitting my bankroll goal and moving up limits. Told myself I wouldnt take any early shots and that I had to hit the $2 mark before I would try.

Anyway time to go borrow one from work. Nice 24" Dell's though, just hope the refresh rate is high enough so there's no ghosting while playing Team Fortress.

I can has readz plz?

Been trying to incorporate body language in my live poker games recently, just because I feel there is some slight edge to be had here that I've been ignoring all this time. I've always been a strictly "range find" type player, you know like observing previous hands and how they were played to determine your likely holdings, because all my experience comes from online play.

Anyway I raise KQo and get flatted by the SB. Flop comes K86ss and I'm holding 1 spade. Villain checks I bet and he snap calls. I put him on a flush draw, likely the ace high flush draw, or maybe just Ax that he doesnt feel like folding. Turn brings a non-spade ace. He insta-overbet jams allin, like 60BB's into 20BB pot.

I had only observed about 10 showdown hands from him, and every time he had something decent he was fixated on the board with lasers coming out of his eyes. I tend to notice this a lot with players recently. I assume because they are concentrating on the value of their own hand, checking the flop 100x per second to make sure they have what they think they have, etc etc. But not this time, this time he was all over the place. He was very non-chalantly looking about, not really caring about the board at all.

Now I know Caro says a disinterested player probably has the nuts or whatever. And in general I have found this to be the case as well. But I mean cmon, going from always staring at the board to doing something completely different? It's gotta mean something AMIRITE?! I decide to be a hero and call my whole stack off with 2nd pair entirely because I thought he was bluffing. He turns over A3s for the combo nuts and I fail. Funny thing is, I put him exactly on a hand like this when I broke it down like I normally would without trying to spot tells on people, and would have very comfortably folded. I then abandoned everything I knew about him based upon one instance where his body language shifted because I thought I had a tell. And in a way I did I guess, I just misinterpreted it.

Moral of the story? Online players are much better than live players for a reason, and accurate hand analysis is vastly superior to live "tells".

Now there's one other FPS'ing reg that I simply KNOW is bluffing when he stares at you. Lets see how much I pay to find out!

The horror
  NewbSaibot, Dec 02 2010

Today our company switched cell phone carriers and we all got new phones. Some time back while on Tmobile I purchased this little diddy to satiate my iphone cravings and move into the world of luxury mobile OS and touchscreen tekmology.

This phone was the neezies, beautiful 4.3" screen, android froyo OS, functionally useful and free apps, big enough screen to legitimately surf the internet, 4G speed, mobile hotspot, tethering so I can screw around at work, awesome for watching movies, and best of all a fucking badass touchscreen keyboard which I could type like a demon on, with fully threaded chat messaging.

Well our dipshit CEO got annoyed that he couldnt get reception with Tmobile in the boonies when he's shooting deer on the weekends, so he decided to switch us all to fucking verizon, just so he could call his hillbilly friends and tell them to bring the moonshine.

Welcome to the new hotness

Yeah baby, check out that 1.5" screen. No touchscreen device here, fuck that shit we use TRACKBALLS. Want to read an email? View that shit in 2 colors nigga, black and white. HTML graphics are for pussies. So is texting, which is why you'll be doing it with tictac sized keys, so your fragile little fingers better man up and get used to pushing buttons instead of a touchscreen.

Man I really cant even go on any further, this shit is so depressing. Total fucking gimp cellphone incapable of shit. Damnit I miss my phone.

Ah november
  NewbSaibot, Nov 29 2010

First time I've ever actually attempted to grind lol. I think I put in 30k hands in all of last year, so a single month is new for me, just because I normally play 1 table at a time so I can focus the most. I really started going downhill after I began 4-8 tabling rush. It's weird, because I dont even know how or why. It just seemed like I always found myself in spots where I simply had to bet or had to call. Occasionally a little tilt would creep up in there to go with it which only added fuel to the fire. I used to love rush just because I could single-table the game pretty quickly. Once I realized I could click buttons fast enough to play 8 I decided I might as well play 8. Either something is seriously wrong with my hand selection or I'm really just not giving enough thought to board textures when barreling away because I would consistently lose no matter what my style was, from nit to lag.

My bankroll is hurting pretty bad, so I'm just gonna suck it up and go back to one tabling, because I think a lack of focus is playing a huge part in these losses here. One thing to look forward to is with a reduced number of tables I can play with a more aggressive bankroll. Would really like to get to NL50 by the end of December. My game selection will simply be whatever I feel is +EV for me at any given moment, which is basically a mix of HUsng's, 6max, rush, and MTT's. Basically everything lol, it's hard to say, sometimes I just feel I'm in the zone for a particular game format.

I'm so l33t
  NewbSaibot, Nov 27 2010

Heeh... last night I played some NL50 live and wore sunglasses at the table for the first time. I thought I would feel douchey and attract unwanted attention at the table, but turns out I felt quite comfortable in them and think it actually helped my game. Everyone is friends with each other so just a friendly casual home poker game, but I did receive many accolades for how pimp my glasses looked, being smoke gray mirror finish and all. Not sure how much of it was just jive and how much was legit, but they all seemed to act like it made me look more fearsome at the table and they were less comfortable engaging me in pots. LOL i know how gay all this sounds but it did help my confidence and thus helped me play a more solid game.

The real reason I brought them was so I could study players without them noticing. Im not quite comfortable staring someone down, and since this is a homegame I dont want to look like an asshole like Tom Dwan or someone doing it either. As a result I feel confident I picked up some pretty rock solid tells, in the sense like who stares at the board when they have a real hand vs who stares at their opponent when trying to bluff etc etc.

Anyway all was fun and I think I'll start wearing them all the time now hehe. 4 BI win for the session.

Sweet
  NewbSaibot, Nov 24 2010

If you leave the topic empty while creating a blog, the entire blog gets wiped out! 13/10/3 is apparently losing strategy vs 40/5/0 players. Gonna run a test. I am playing only JJ+ and AK+ for 1000 hands. GOGO!

Better
  NewbSaibot, Nov 22 2010

Thx goes out to edzwoo for the stat critique. Lowering my 3bet seems to have really helped a lot. Although only 1800 hands, obviously small sample, but the gameflow feels very different without so much 3 betting now. Also just forfeiting my blind unless I have a value hand to 3bet with. 3bet was a solid 2.5 until last 500 hands or so when I just ran sick good and had lots of 3bet worthy hands in position.

My vpip continues to linger around 12%. Should I make an effort to bring it up to 16 or so? My range is still top 16% of hands, I'm just being very selective about position when I choose to play them which may explain the small avg.

Not working
  NewbSaibot, Nov 21 2010

Ok, am I still not playing tight enough lol? Maybe reduce my range in half again, play 5/5/3? All the 3betting is coming from blatant blind stealers with like 50% steal rates, or hands like AJs/AQo OTB vs utg/MP raises. I usually get a shit ton of folds so I'm pretty sure a lot of people are just opening 22+ and random suited connectors from any position.

Whats wrong with this picture?
  NewbSaibot, Nov 19 2010

Is 8k hands a large enough sample? Trying to figure out why I keep losing. I feel like I'm playing solid enough. Generally speaking these stats tend to fall in line with winning players dont they? Just seems like if I'm not getting slowplayed, I'm value betting the worst hand vs droolers in spots where I simply have to bet.

72o - The Game
  NewbSaibot, Nov 15 2010

Uhhh, wtf? Played live and they implemented the seven deuce rule. Except that instead of seven deuce offsuit, it could be suited, cuz ya'know nobody should fold a suited hand. And winning didnt count unless you saw a flop, cuz ya'know everyone should be allowed to see a flop.

I actually felt gay playing this. Like all I could think about was stuffing a cock in my mouth and making someone moan.

Anyway I ended up getting 3 streets of value with 72 by hitting 2 pair vs whatever the fuck, plus a 4BB bounty from 9 players at the table.

HEH...
