PC must be powered on and running for 1 hour before any poker sessions begin. My sweet gaming rig has had a defective video card for the last year now, that seems to crash as the system warms up for the first 30 minutes or so. Entire system freezes and I have to reboot to clear it up. If it has sat for a good hour then it runs stably for the rest of the night. Nothing like getting home, opening a table, flopping the nut straight on a 234 board in a 4way raised pot OTB, just to have my pc lock up as I'm typing in my raise amount.

In fact, I've heard of people keeping a laptop on standby as a backup in such crisis as down internet or something. I'll keep my cellphone tethered to that too just in case.

  NewbSaibot, Jan 12 2011

Him: I got a message saying I needed flash updated, please update it
Me: Does the page load?
Him: Yes
Me: So whats the problem?
Him: Well I thought it probably needed it if it was telling me.
Me: Dont worry about it. Which browser are you using anyway?
Him: Internet Explorer
Me: Use Firefox, you wont get that message as often, if ever. Plus it is superior in a number of other ways. Why are you using Internet Explorer anyway?
Him: I dunno
Me: Ok, well use Firefox.

Biggest leak
  NewbSaibot, Jan 09 2011

So I think I discovered my biggest leak to date, and that is not knowing enough about turn/river play. I've been on a fun little heater at rush again buying in for the minimum 40BB's, only to realize that it has been my greatest strength being able to effectively only play a preflop+flop game, where the money is usually going in at that point if either of us have anything. You would think I'm missing out on some good implied odds situations, but I came to realize that I just dont get AA/KK or multiway draws often enough to make it really matter. In 5k hands I feel like I've only missed 5-10 opportunities to stack someone for 100BB's. But I cant tell you how many times I would have been stacked via suckout/cooler if I was playing 100BB's the whole time. You know the adage, "win a small pot instead of lose a big one". I'm pretty lag running around 32/25 so I tend to pick up lots of small pots and healthily grind my stack up. Once I have a certain amount I dont feel like losing I just quit and reload the table for another 40BB's. This keeps me from getting it allin and losing those 200BB pots.

After playing said 5k hands and winning at around 22BB/100 I decided to go ahead and see what happens if I buy in full again. BOOM, instantly lose like 5 BI's in 5 minutes, in the same fashion that causes me to lose monitors, mostly villains just drawing out on me. I'm sure there is a proper way to play your hand that doesnt always involve getting felted postflop, but I have yet to learn it. This might be why I do OK in SNG's as well, since the majority of your time is spent playing with less than 100BB's. However buying in short has been a great loss limiter, and I'm very rarely missing out on any real value anyway so I'm just gonna keep at it for a pretty long time until I decide it's time to improve my play.

Puke
  NewbSaibot, Jan 04 2011

Omg you asshole. I seriously think I just vomited in my mouth a little. I'm 4-tabling away at work thethered to my cellphone, and you fucking barge into my office, asking if I read a stupid fucking email about using the wi-fi hotspot option on your cellphone. Are you fucking kidding me? "Lolz, I just read an article that says you can do this for free on t-mobile, omg you wanna talk about it?!?!" The problem is, I was about to face an allin spot, and knee deep in pots across 2 other tables. 3 tables with probably 200BB's worth of action going down. I keep task manager running so I can terminate the Full Tilt client and be staring at my desktop like "wut".

Fuckin dickheads, quit reading random articles about shit you have no idea of and then coming to chit chat with me to make yourself feel smarter, dont you see I have work to do?

Whew
  NewbSaibot, Dec 29 2010

That was a close one. Just logged into Absolute to check out the MSNL HU scene and saw I had a few bucks on there. Proceeded to lose it all over 200 hands vs an 88/0 drooler who's down $8k at NL100 and below. I was almost going to deposit to play again, before realizing these players are unbeatable. Thank you rakeback for reminding me never to play micros again.

Monitor #3
  NewbSaibot, Dec 11 2010

At least I think it's #3, might actually be #4, i've lost count. NL5 rush, announced the 4 outer gutshot villain needed to hit to make his straight vs my set, allin on flop, boom gutshot on the river. Mike tyson punched the screen, wont turn back on. Although it wasnt snap tilt. I had already lost 5 allin's (one-tabling) in under 100 hands so my hands were already shaking at the keyboard. I think losing a stack every 20 hands or every 2 minutes is enough to rattle anyone. Whats worse I was $2 from hitting my bankroll goal and moving up limits. Told myself I wouldnt take any early shots and that I had to hit the $2 mark before I would try.

Anyway time to go borrow one from work. Nice 24" Dell's though, just hope the refresh rate is high enough so there's no ghosting while playing Team Fortress.

I can has readz plz?
  NewbSaibot, Dec 08 2010

Been trying to incorporate body language in my live poker games recently, just because I feel there is some slight edge to be had here that I've been ignoring all this time. I've always been a strictly "range find" type player, you know like observing previous hands and how they were played to determine your likely holdings, because all my experience comes from online play.

Anyway I raise KQo and get flatted by the SB. Flop comes K86ss and I'm holding 1 spade. Villain checks I bet and he snap calls. I put him on a flush draw, likely the ace high flush draw, or maybe just Ax that he doesnt feel like folding. Turn brings a non-spade ace. He insta-overbet jams allin, like 60BB's into 20BB pot.

I had only observed about 10 showdown hands from him, and every time he had something decent he was fixated on the board with lasers coming out of his eyes. I tend to notice this a lot with players recently. I assume because they are concentrating on the value of their own hand, checking the flop 100x per second to make sure they have what they think they have, etc etc. But not this time, this time he was all over the place. He was very non-chalantly looking about, not really caring about the board at all.

Now I know Caro says a disinterested player probably has the nuts or whatever. And in general I have found this to be the case as well. But I mean cmon, going from always staring at the board to doing something completely different? It's gotta mean something AMIRITE?! I decide to be a hero and call my whole stack off with 2nd pair entirely because I thought he was bluffing. He turns over A3s for the combo nuts and I fail. Funny thing is, I put him exactly on a hand like this when I broke it down like I normally would without trying to spot tells on people, and would have very comfortably folded. I then abandoned everything I knew about him based upon one instance where his body language shifted because I thought I had a tell. And in a way I did I guess, I just misinterpreted it.

Moral of the story? Online players are much better than live players for a reason, and accurate hand analysis is vastly superior to live "tells".

Now there's one other FPS'ing reg that I simply KNOW is bluffing when he stares at you. Lets see how much I pay to find out!

The horror
  NewbSaibot, Dec 02 2010

Today our company switched cell phone carriers and we all got new phones. Some time back while on Tmobile I purchased this little diddy to satiate my iphone cravings and move into the world of luxury mobile OS and touchscreen tekmology.

This phone was the neezies, beautiful 4.3" screen, android froyo OS, functionally useful and free apps, big enough screen to legitimately surf the internet, 4G speed, mobile hotspot, tethering so I can screw around at work, awesome for watching movies, and best of all a fucking badass touchscreen keyboard which I could type like a demon on, with fully threaded chat messaging.

Well our dipshit CEO got annoyed that he couldnt get reception with Tmobile in the boonies when he's shooting deer on the weekends, so he decided to switch us all to fucking verizon, just so he could call his hillbilly friends and tell them to bring the moonshine.

Welcome to the new hotness

Yeah baby, check out that 1.5" screen. No touchscreen device here, fuck that shit we use TRACKBALLS. Want to read an email? View that shit in 2 colors nigga, black and white. HTML graphics are for pussies. So is texting, which is why you'll be doing it with tictac sized keys, so your fragile little fingers better man up and get used to pushing buttons instead of a touchscreen.

Man I really cant even go on any further, this shit is so depressing. Total fucking gimp cellphone incapable of shit. Damnit I miss my phone.
