can we make a new PLO section at the top? the rest is dead but maybe that will get some action

Is it a mistake to raise shortstacks (of a certain depth that leaves very akward stack sizes after hero calls the limp/3bet) with weaker double pairs (101044 type hands)? Are we better just overlimping rather than valueraising? even with some of the hands that we would 3bet a deep/fullstacked player with?

The problem with double pairs is that their equity is very good preflop due to the fact that sets postflop usually have such good equity when they actually hit. But that equity is very hot/cold. You flop that set and have it good or you are stuck folding a small amount of possibly very good outs. Having to fold QQ55 on K82r kinda sucks obv. When you brick a flop with a hand like AQJ10 u are not giving up much because very few runouts can improve you. Seems like these double pairs would benefit significantly from seeing all 5 cards.

for example JJ77 has about 38% vs AAQ6 (forget suits for a moment). If you raise and someone pots you all in you will have the 33% u need to make the call.

Say you are deeper though to where you 3bet, get4d and have .5-1 spr left behind for flop or whatever. You need to realize 33% EQ to call pre (you have it in absolute equity but the realization can be hard seeing only the 1st 3 cards). If your 38% EQ pre comes almost entirely from hitting a set it will be hard to realize this much equity on the flop. If we miss we only see 3/5ths of the board cards and flop the set and continue 24%. The vast majority of the time we will be folding equity (but not enough EQ to profitably call off the rest of stacks). Better to get in bad pre more often to defend the chips already in the pot rather than fold so much post?

I feel like double pairs are kinda unique in this regard. Other hands need more flop connection to ever make a winner by river (bad way of saying what i am trying to say in more general terms.

Which brings me to the HSPLO hand from today my post is based on. What is up with Ronny's jam here vs the obv AA?
