Sorry, just doesn't feel like McGregor has a clear huge edge you're trying to imply, he has an edge for sure, its just not huge. Plus Poirier is the smarter fighter from the two imo.

Dude, wasn't he in the last episode for like 3 seconds on the scales with Burt?

Seems about the right amount of exposure considering the fan interest in that fight.

Why do you think Poirier is the smarter fighter? McGregor has been essentially perfect in his Octogon appearances - not that it means anything, its again inferior competition, but still - Poirier has been hit very hard a lot by far inferior competition, he got ROCKED by Corissani is his last appearence. I just don't know where you come up with that. Experience is the only thing I'd be touting for Poirier. The clear edge is in striking, power, speed, head movement, foot-work and overall athleticism, which is all that will matter in this fight.

I think I saw McGregor playing EPT Vienna this summer. But I am not 100% sure, he had a lot more beard I think.
Seems like a cool but crazy dude. Agree that the card is hard to bet, but it is a testament to a good card, that basically only DJ is a "sure bet".
Those 100% fights are kind of a slaughter anyways, I rather see a fair fight

I give the power and BJJ edge to Poirier.

I like the breakdown that Dan Hardy and the other guy did for the fight, which is posted on the previous page.

There's a decent Bellator card tonight. I'll post the information after I get out of bed.

Power edge to Poirier? It seems like his damage is done with a volume of punches and just swarming. I just rewatched his finish of Brandao. There wasn't a singular strike that really did it. Just the constant accumulation of them. Think I saw 6-7 flush or near flush shots with Brandao hurt but still coherently trying to cover up.

BJJ clearly. Besides that, I think Poirier's only advantage is experience but that won't play all that much of a factor on the feet since Conor seems to be comfortable with his athleticism there. Maneuvering on the ground...in scrambles and such if it gets there...I'd say that's Poirier's real viable and possibly only shot.

I would definitely like to see Conor in there with someone with significant one shot capabilities soon though. To see how such a 'confident' but mostly yet unproven fighter reacts vs the threat of that. Unfortunately or fortunately, he's being fast tracked so hard that if he wins, that someone might be Aldo and his leg kicks very soon

It still does kinda suck...from a general looking from the outside in standpoint...if you're betting...to put up 3 to 1 on a largely unproven fighter vs a proven one. With added possible injury rumors

Re: Cerrone V Alvarez. I didn't quite realize the height/length advantage that Cerrone will have was as much as it is until I saw the press conference staredowns or whatever. The distance he'll have to get a good kick in makes me lean towards Cerrone a bit whereas before I wasn't even trying to guess an outcome of this fight...just enjoy.

Who's followed Eddie a lot? I've really only seen the Chandler fights and one with Freire which aren't great examples of matchup comparison since both are relatively short and compact like Eddie. Clearly he's pretty explosive and so maybe he can shoot in through that distance barrier he'll have very quick but in just glancing at his wiki, I don't see any past opponent he's fought who's a tall rangy fighter like Cerrone.

I have seen most of Eddie's fights since 2008, and all but 1 of his Bellator fights since he started fighting there in 2009. Eddie hasn't faced a similar fighter before, so it's hard to know how well he'll do here, especially since he hasn't fought in almost 11 months and this will only be his second fight in the past 2 years. There's also the fact that he's fighting in the UFC for the first time, and champions from smaller organizations usually have problems transitioning in their first fight.

People say that Donald always folds under pressure against the best guys in the division, however, the opponents he lost to were already proven fighters in the organization he was in. People are basically assuming Eddie is top 3 in the division and tend to overlook his faults as a fighter. Eddie is bringing in a lot of hype.

This is what I wrote on Sherdog when the fight was announced on July 30th, 2014:

"Terrible fight for Alvarez if you put away the aura most of us carry for him, and focus on the speed, boxing stance, and same movement/direction that Alvarez uses in every fight. Alvarez isn't super fast or anything (above average, not super fast imo), he holds both of his fists near his nipples, he always dips low when he fights, especially when he does his patented jump in right punch and fades to the left. Alvarez also fights from the outside and leaps in to throw shots. The only time he stands in the pocket is when he has you against the fence.

If Alvarez doesn't employ a heavy wrestling strategy in this fight, he'll eat a head kick at some point. Since Cerrone has the height and reach advantage and their fighting styles, this could be ugly. Aside from his last fight, Alvarez is known for always getting dropped in most of his fights, which won't be good against Cerrone, since Cerrone will leap on his back for a quick submission."

----------

I should have seen, "in his last 3 fights." I guess I didn't count the Aoki and Patricky fights, since they were "gimmes," which ended in the first round. Patricky isn't on Eddie's level, and people already knew Aoki had nothing for Eddie this time around, since Eddie wouldn't let it go to the ground. Eddie has been hurt and dropped in a ton of his fights against lesser strikers than Donald.

I agree with your assessment on the Eddie fight Puerto Rican, and yes, the BJJ edge goes to Poirier, but definitely not the power edge - his hardest punches are thrown with a tremendous amount of effort and seem to do the same or less then Mcgregor's 70 % style shots... and the BJJ just won't play into this, I don't see how it winds up on the mat unless Poirer over-commits on a shot and Conor takes him down, and in that instance, advantage McGregor via gnp > bjj off the back for Poirier

Gibson looking great. Don't see how Manny wins this fight.

Edit: And that's why I don't bet on MMA anymore lol.

Manny was my biggest underdog for my kountermove freeroll though, so yay!
