French professional poker player Benjamin Pollak triumphed in the EPT Barcelona €50,000 Single-Day High Roller, banking €979,000. It took Pollak only 12 hours to prevails in the 69-entry field which comprised of some of the world's elite poker players.
Pollak beat his fellow countryman Jean-Noel Thorel heads-up, overcoming a slight chip-deficit in the final match. Thorel, who's been a regular fixture in the highest buy-in events in Europe, walked away with €703,000.
Pollak has been performing remarkably well at EPT Barcelona. He took the fifth-place prize of €445,300 yesterday in the €100,000 Super High Roller. After leaving the final table, Pollak entered the Main Event and finished the Day 1a with the sixth-biggest stack.
Pollak used his day off to claim nearly €1 million, crossing $10 million in live tournament earnings. He sits in second place on the French all-time money list, following Bertrand Grospellier.
Pollak's road to the victory was very decisive. He scored several eliminations on the last two tables, including a double knockout of Stanley Choi and Linus Loeliger to single-handedly break the bubble when he peeled pocket aces.
The nine remaining players took their seat on the final table with Pollak holding a commanding lead.
Matthias Eibinger, Jan-Eric Schwippert and Jack Salter were all eliminated early into the final table. Seth Davies followed in sixth place and Pollak then won a big coin flip against Mikalai Vaskaboinikau, forcing him out in the fifth position.
Ryan Riess busted in fourth place after getting two-outed by Thorel and Pollak took care of Alex Foxen in third, setting up a French heads-up which ended when Pollak peeled a stronger ace-high and held in a preflop all-in contest.
