Leon Tsoukernik took down the EPT13 Prague €50k Super High Roller, earning €741,100 along with the title and a trophy. The 43-year-old poker enthusiast beat a 49-entry field, securing his first cash in a EPT high rollers. He went wire-to-wire to win the tournament, entering the six-handed final day in chip lead.
Tsoukernik is an amateur poker player but he's been regularly competing in the toughest games for many years. He's no stranger to the highest cash games, rubbing shoulders with the world's best poker players.
Tsoukernik was born in the Soviet Union and has Israeli roots. He started his career as an antique dealer in Toronto but relocated to the Czech Republic, which has been his home since 1993. He settled in Rozvadov, a small town on the Czech-German border, where he built the King's Casino, one of Europe's largest casinos. Tsoukernik started adjusting the casino to poker games in 2009 and developed it in one of the biggest poker rooms in Europe. The King's Casino has been home for Eureka Poker Tour for the past four seasons and will play host to the PokerStars Festival in March 2017. Tsoukernik, who's been extensively helping to grow the live poker business, won the Industry Person of the Year Award at the 2014 European Poker Awards.
Tsoukernik beat British pro Charlie Carrel heads-up. The 23-year-old picked up €535,250 for his runner-up finish. Carrel secured his third fourth six-figure prize in the last two months. Last week, he banked €159,545 here at EPT13 Prague, finishing third in the €10k Single Re-Entry. Carrel has won $3.75 million in live tournaments and sits in 12th place on England's all-time money list. He has the EPT11 Grand Final €25k High Roller title under his belt, worth €1,114,000.
Third place finisher Juha Helppi received €341,150 for his efforts. Helppi pusehd his career earnings close to $7 million, moving ahead of Patrik Antonius to lead the Finnish all-time money list.
Viacheslav Buldygin from Russia finished fourth, earning €258,800 while British businessman Paul Newey took €200,000 for fifth place. German pro Julian Thomas was the first player to leave the feature table, banking €123,520 for sixth place.
