I have been getting back into Poker as much as I can these days. I have a very much so full time job, that has odd and long hours, and times when I am away from home for a week or more with no access to playing online poker. I love my job, and am really happy even though the hours are mad sometimes, Its something I have always wanted to do. However I do wish sometimes I had a little bit more free time to play more Poker! Because right now I have got a huge drive within me to play lots of Poker and improve, improve and improve!
Last week I was off two days there in a row (which can be pretty rare for me lol), and played alot of MTT poker. Finished 215th/9760 and 20th/2500, it was good but also hugely disappointing. I have been reading up on improving my late game play, and checking out videos. This has helped alot. I also have had great input from fellow LPers, and I do appreciate the comments. This weekend I was off again, (really rare, but its calm before the storm of being busy..), and played a few yesterday. It just wasn't meant to be, and although I managed to bounce back after a few suckouts, I ended up busting in 140th/2400. So no final table yet. But I am working on it!
As I do not have as much time to put in epic 10 hour sessions every day, on most evenings, I have been playing small multi table sit+gos. The 27man ones are decent, as they only take around 1hour 30mins - 2 hours to complete. Very soft. I have not an amazing ROI in them, but I have not played enough of them yet to get a realistic ROI. I would ideally play the 180man sit and gos, because I do feel I got a good edge over most players, as they are all generally really bad and have no concept of pushing ranges, but 4 hour sessions are just too long for me on workdays. I have to try and satisfy everyone, which includes my friends and my fiancee!
So it brings me back to my blog topic and video at the start of this blog. This song is practically on repeat at the moment. Such a tune. But its meaning is also interesting. "All things to all men". It is a quote from the bible I believe. I am no religious person, but do find these words really thought provoking. It pretty much means, to satisfy everyone. Which I feel is really important, especially for poker players. Because even after you have grinded for hours and hours a day, there is a point where you have to step back and do other things other than poker. You have to have a healthy balance, and you have to satisfy and give your time to other people just as much as Poker itself. I really think it is one of the most overlooked criteria for being good at this game, or any game even.
Because ever since I have not had as much time, and do other things in my life, I have actually seen my Poker improve by leaps and bounds. I seem to be way more focused when it comes to Poker and I have a much clearer head with loads of determination. I put in way more effort because I do not have all the time in the world.
Thought I would share those thoughts with you, and hopefully some of you can take them onboard and make something of them.
