After a week-long grueling marathon of writing, my thesis is finally finished. Technically it's my final draft, but I have little intention of going back and changing it unless my supervisor deems it absolutely neccesary.
I estimate I spent about 100 hours, give or take 10 hours, researching and writing this thesis. Another 100 hours spent on doing the lab work to collect the data, and about 150 extra hours again spent doing extraneous lab work for my supervisor which was not related to my personal work.
The gay thing is, to get my medicine degree this research year was necessary. For some reason, my university thinks it's a wise idea for all future doctors to do a year of research -.-. If we had wanted to do research, we'd have chosen BioMed and elected to do a PhD.

How many hours did you spend doing other university course stuff during the same time period?
Also you now qualified to explain why I tend to live on a 24.5 hour day? |

he had a fucking year to do it, he basically spent a year doing nothing and will continue to do nothing for a couple of more months... and god does he bitch about it .... oh noooo 250 hours for a year long assignment...crap 4 hours of work a week ...

It's basically about fatty arteries, and looking for ways to help stop people from developing fatty arteries and ultimately getting heart attacks and strokes.
I had 8 months not 1 year, and it was about 350 hours of work not 250.
There were no classes, it's basically just an entire year devoted to self-guided research. It sounds "good" but I promise you it's not. While I won't go so far as to say it's better than having to study for exams (I consider them equally shitty), I definitely prefer lecture and tutorial based learning over self-directed learning by reading through countless scientific journals on topics I have no idea about -.-
To describe the monotony of collecting the data, imagine sitting in front of a computer for 3 hours tracing pictures of arteries which all appear identical. Now repeat it 3 times. Now imagine your supervisor says "oh the antibody dilution was no good, we're going to have to do it again". Then the following week, he says the same thing: repeat it again. That's a big part of why I hated this so much. |

Still look at about 2 hrs a day for 5 days a week, with zero classes to attend.
Is medical school really that little work? |
