Doomswitched by Ond keso, November 21

Hmm, NL100 not working aswell as i hoped so i thought i switch back to tourneys again. That didnt work either...

Lost more than 2/3 of my roll and this is probably the worst downswing ever.

So long since i had less than 1k in my account, feels like shit...

Well, still gonna play 180 turbo sngs. I have -9% ROI so far this month, normal is like 30%. Only gonna play peak hours and get a lot more sleep until im back at 3-4k. Then maybe move from pokerstars to a site where i can get some nice rakeback.

Goal this year is to have turned my red NL100 numbers into green.

Starting Blog for LiLZhiMiNG by LiLZhiMiNG, November 21

Hey all LP'ers,

For those who don't know me, I started poker in April this year and worked my way up from 2NL with helps of the LP community. Like most LP'ers I was into starcraft and come from teamliquid.net. But yeah as battle.net started to die down, my mates all stopped SC and introduced me to poker. Like most new players I was told to grind my way through all the micro stake limits and so my poker journey begun. I spent about a month on 2NL, a month of 5NL and about 2 months on 10NL, playing about 70-100k hands on each limit. So by July I was owning 10NL. I soon took a shot at 25NL and I ran like Jesus and cracking $1k BR mark by August. In August and September I played about 50k hands all up and managed to lose most my BR on 25NL and moving back to 10NL. During October I did manage to make majority of my losses back and managed to take some shots at 50NL. However was unsuccessful on all 3 attempts. And in November so far, I have managed to lose most my BR on 25NL and shots at 50NL again.

I decided to start up a blog, because I am really starting to doubt I am even improving and questioning am I just wasting my life. I'm planning to start from 2NL again until I get a CR subscription and coaching by a friend who is fairly successful at 100NL. I will start posting my monthly results, since I started my uni break and will try play a shitload of hands. Once uni starts up again, I will definitely still play and try keep my post up. I would like to say thanks in advance to any comments/advice on hands I may post and have questions on.

Holy Batman downswing by phexac, November 21

I don't typically make venting blogs...but er venting helps. Over the past 2.5 days I have hit so many beats and setups that I have lost count. I dropped down from NL400 to NL200 to keep my losses in check, but I still can't sit down at the table without losing 2-3 buyins in a short session. Here are some fun hands for those of you who are into that sort of thing...

The key to poker is knowing your opponents. Villain is raising flop for value because he knows he can't lose vs me:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572717

There must be separate set of drawing odds for playing against me:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572718

True goal of slowplaying is to allow your opponent to turn the nuts so that you can stack him:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572720

People on the forums would make fun of me for considering a check-fold on turn, but I KNOW he turned 2 pair. It's simple probability really, and I have no chance.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572721

This turn is such trivial check-fold for me, but I am afraid of what the general midstakes forum population would say, so I persevere:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572724

Did you know that flopping sets has reverse implied odds?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572728

76s OOP 3bets are generally for value when they are against me:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=572731

There is quite a bit more. I am down over 5k at NL400 and NL200...mostly because it's impossible for me to win a pot. I know I am playing correctly for most part, but when you can't win no matter what you do or how badly your opponents play, it obviously chafes away at your attitude. Luckily, I will be getting the $2,000 milestone bonus and $1,500 supernova 100k VPP bonus in the next 2-3 week, so that should help counteract this downswing. I honestly haven't run this bad in a long time. Combined with a downswing a few weeks back, where the theme was, you flop a set and get 2-outered 22 times (that's the actual number...I was curious, so I counted), and me cashing out about 5k, my bankroll is rather shrunken. I am still well-rolled for NL200, and if I can win some back by the time I clear the bonuses, I should be back at NL400 soon, but I sincerely hope this particular episode is at its end.

Cheers.

Proactive life changes by Cooperstown, November 20

When I decided to stop playing ball I cut loose and ate what I wanted and stopped working out because I was completely burnt out after so many years of watching what I ate and working out all the time. So now that I weigh the same as I did when I was in shape, but probably have 20lbs+ less muscle I decided to start running again. I started just over a week ago and I've been running between 2-2.5 miles a day 6 days a week now. I think if I limit my gym time to just running and maybe a real short lift I won't get sick of it. I'm even considering running a marathon next spring if I can get motivated enough to do the training. I recently also decided to give up drinking(yes Brett like really quit this time), it hasn't been fun for awhile now. All my crazy friends that are great to party with live no where near me and it's just an expensive way to feel like shit for a couple days and not remember anything about what happened. Plus it will give me less to apologize for because sometimes I can get pretty out of control well I start hammering down shots.

Anyway that's about all that's new, started playing again really casually now that training is done for work. It's a lot less stress just playing when you feel like it and not trying to log mass hands to get better and move up. So far my sample has been very small, but my play has been far less spewy then in the past because there's no ego involved. Seems like I've finally seperated that from cards so who knows maybe I'll actually have a nice supplemental income at some point.

First 10k tracked hands by EXCELED, November 20

I just wrote a huge fucking blog about this and accidently hit the back button on my keyboard.. fuck me. Anyways I wrote it up again.

Today I finally hit my first 10k hands that I actually tracked. So far Ive been doing very well and fixed a lot of problems in my game thanks to Poker Tracker and help from others on LP and 2+2. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone. Anyways here are my graphs and stats so far on the 10k hands:

NOTE: All $.25/$.50 LHE 6 MAX

STATS

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/10kstats.jpg

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/10kposition.jpg

My stats are pretty standard for a 6 Max LHE game. Id say I play a pretty solid TAG game, maybe a little ABC at times but really its what you have to do to win at these levels because people play so bad that its hard to get tricky.

WINNINGS

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/10kwinnings.jpg

Very Happy with my Winnings here. I think that 5BB/100 is probably sustainable at this level because people spew massively and its really easy to get your big hands paid off.

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/10kshowdown.jpg

Dumb red line. I really dont think its possible to get it above the even line playing LHE because often people just call you down to the river because they have some "value" in calling.

SUMMARY

Ive put a lot of hard work into my poker game over the past two months and its paying off. I knew I could win consistently but I was really running into the same problem over and over again. I used to go on a nice run and win a bit here and there. Then I would go on a terrible losing day and end up donking off 2x what I should trying to make it back beacause I would move up limits trying to make it back. BIG mistake. Ive become a serious BR nit and this has helped a lot. I am fine with winning a little bit everyday instead of absolutely having to win a lot each day. Its better to win a bit then to be in the red at the end of the day.

Poker tracker has helped my game A LOT over the past two months I was able to see that at one point I used to call way to many hands. Instead I started to raise more instead of calling and those hands that I would sometimes really want to call I throw them into the much. Although I still sometimes make calls that I probably shouldnt hoping to hit a monster flop but I am getting better at muchking those hands. (stupid suited cards )

Another thing that I think has helped me out a bit is actually blogging. I can get help when Im not sure through my blog and it also helps me vent somewhere when things arent going so well. For some reason blogging can kind of be de-tilting for me. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out in my blog.

WHATS NEXT?

Well its only 10k hands right? I know I know. My actual winnings for the month is a bit more then it shows on that graph because Ive taken a few shots at the next level as well as coming out on top in some HU sessions. I played in a few tourneys this month but didnt make any money at all but sometimes donkaments are fun so Im going to keep playing in the odd one here and there.

I plan on moving up limits after I make about another $100 or 200 BB which is easily doable. I think the comfort in my BR will help make things easier when I start taking the shot at the next limit up. Also I plan on improving my HU game. I really enjoy playing LHE HU. There are a few players who have made a killing playing LHE HU so there is definitly some strategy behind the madness. I plan on finding this out one way or another and hopefully do well along the way.

All in all things are pretty kick ass right now in my life and I cant complain at all. I hope everyhing is going well for you guys too.

[GM] the saga continues... by Uptown, November 20

I caught some grief from Highcard during my last blog when I talked about how GM going down would cause a recession, and honestly I really can't disagree with him. These companies are simply terribly ran, GM in particular. It all stems from terrible terrible deals struck with the union back in the 1960's (iirc).

The union of automotive workers (UAW) have ridiculous contracts with GM. Iirc GM was in deep shit during the 60's and were ran by inept monkeys, somehow thinking that signing these stipulations would be alright. I don't recall all the specifics, but here are a few.

- Continued wage increases with age, to the point where 45 year manufacturing plant workers who moved up the ladder somewhat over the last 25 years are paid 6 figures, oftentimes over 200,000 USD. That's more than PHD's make in corporate research labs!!!
- Huge difficulty firing unnecessary labor force.
- Benefits (health insurance etc) continues after retirement until death. (HUGE!!!!)

That's huge amounts of unnecessary money being spent -- basically for naught. I always hear about taking money from the giant corporations and giving it to the ordinary man, but seriously, there are limits to what you can do until the company itself goes busto. Think back to the airlines pre-9-11, and how overpaid the workers were in general, and how eventually everyone had to take 25-40% wage cuts for the company to even survive.

Because of GM's inefficiencies with its workforce, each car produced I believe costs $1500 more than a comparable vehicle made by Toyota. In this day and age, there is no way a company is going to be able to survive with such gross flaws in their operations.

GM sucks. There's no question about that really. But if it goes down, the estimate is roughly 10% unemployment. GM has no assets it can sell. It recently sold suzuki for a whopping 500M, which hardly helps their cause.

Ford, who will probably feel the effects of GM falling, will probably survive regardless, since they have 20B+ in cash, plus they can sell off volvo and a few other companies they own.

Now, I believe Obama pledged to rescue GM, since he needed the millions of automotive workers' votes. If GM falls before he is sworn into office, then he happily won't have to recue them - he can just say Bush didn't rescue them, and no one can really complain. (I'm completely fine with that too tbh) GM will go to bankruptcy court, and the judge will hopefully (ffs) order a negotiation with the UAW. And as a result, these improved terms should help out Ford as well.

If GM doesnt fall before Obama become president... they may very well be sent a resume package.

I'm not really even sure where I personally stand on this. I hate the fact that GM is a piece of shit company that makes piece of shit machines and has retarded compensation plans for its employees, but on the other hand them going down is going to make the market go kaboom and cause serious levels of unemployment. Sigh...

just played my first home game by luddite, November 20

Actually not really my first, but it's my first since I started playing online (So far I've played about 75k hands and I'm at 25NL now.)

Wow. These people SUCK.

min raise min raise min raise, 2nd pair = nuts, nobody even looks at their kicker apparently. At one point, someone called off most of his stack with just A high. He didn't bet, he didn't make any attempt to bluff he just kept calling with nothing. Later, another guy had lost his whole stack except for just 6 chips, and was seriously debating folding his big blind of 2 chips. Gah.

I think maybe I shouldn't play with these guys anymore. They're friends of mine, I don't want to take their money (although I didn't win, I got second after a guy rivered a set and then a flush in back to back hands).

How do you guys handle this? I'm sure you've had this problem, if you play online constantly, and your friends want to play a casual game for low stakes. Do you play, or not? If you do, do you try to play well, or do you just throw your money around like they do?

Make BETTER DECISIONS - THINK them through

Breathe Deeply

Possibility is endless.

Also the 2 biggest tips I can give you guys:

1. When you are playing, treat your mouse/keyboard as a betting line. Make your decision with your hands off/away from the keyboard and mouse. Finger tilt . Your hands should have no factor in your poker decisions, but because we associate poker with chips/cards which are held many players subconsciously treat online poker live. Also, people associate being at/using a computer with the keyboard/mouse. Take your time and think through your decision. Use your logic, but also weigh it with how the situation feels.

2. When you exhale, sigh, breathe deeply, jump up, jump back, pull your hands back, jolt, groan, wring your hands, flex your fingers, put your hands on your head/neck, rub your thumb on your pointer finger, feel dizzy or sick, know you are about to get f**ked, MAKE THE CHECK/FOLD/ (Call rather than rr if you perceive the hand as too strong to fold) EVERY TIME. Your body knows more about poker than you think it does. These are very clear signs of danger and your body is flashing red warning alarms. The more I've learned to observe myself while I play the more I spot myself exhibiting tells (your first reaction is always the most honest and I'm not trying to hide them from anyone because I'm playing online). I really have been following these consistently and I feel very good when I do go with my feel and intuition even when I don't see showdown. I'm about 95% with it so even when I follow it and am wrong- it still makes me more money than the strict perceived range based decision when I do feel it.

Random update by EXCELED, November 20

Just writing about how things went for me today. So yea I had to work this morning and only managed to get in 4 hrs before we got sent home again. They said they are going to be posting jobs over in the grocery area which is more hours but Im not really interested in going over there because its too dry and hot plus the skids are a fucking bitch to make. Other people who have families to support etc. deserve the chance to take those jobs before me because they really need it. Im only going to be working here for about a month so I said fuck it might as well stay over here for now. Good managers, good guys to work with, just not enough hours.

I got off around 10am, rolled up the last of my buds and smoked a j on the drive home. So by the time I got home I was pinned and wanted to hit the tables. I was up a bit at the start but for the most part things were pretty even for the start, only winning a few hands here and there. I lost a couple big hands, all pretty standard stuff, nothing worth crying over. Then I went on a quick heater and ended up 64 BB for the day which is great in my books. Here she is:

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/Nov20.jpg

Also I just check my pokertracker database and it turns out Im really close to my first 10k tracked hands. (Actually Ive already played over 10k hands with all the levels included but Im really close to 10k hands at $.25/$.50 LHE) This is a pretty big accomplishment for me because for some reason in the past things in poker havent really gone super well and I used to always go on tilt and blow away my BR. Ive put a lot of discipline into my game over the last while and made a lot of adjustments and its really paying off a lot. For the first time I can honestly say I am winning on a very consistent basis and its not just because Im on some huge heater either. Ive really put a lot of work into my game and for once Im really glad I did.

I need about 75 more BB and then Im comfortably rolled for the next level up and can possibly start looking into taking HU a lot more serious because the lowest level heads up tables start at my next level on Stars. There is some serious dough to be made at HU and I intend to take full advantage of this when the time is right. Im pretty excited to be able to move up soon. Ive taken a few small shots at the next level and Im only down like 7BB which is nothing. I felt pretty comfortable playing there though on those shots so I know I can crush it too. Might take a few adjustments here and there but for sure I can do it.

Tonight Im probably going to go out and play some pool with my buddies. I wish I was a dirty pool shark but sadly Im not. I hold my own against my buddies but they are nothing special either. Im not even confident enough to put money on myself in pool lol. Should be an alright night. A few of my buddies went down to the Casino and I couldnt go because I need every penny in my bank account right now for school. Kinda sucked that I couldnt go because I would have loved to go there and own the $5/$10 LHE game but I gotta save and right now the Casino and the possiblity even of a losing day at $5/$10 is something I dont need right now. Hopefully my buddies do well and clean up.

Since I dont have to work tomorrow I get to sleep in. When I get up Im going to murder my chest at the gym. I havent been going very consistent lately. Been taking off a week here and there and I hate that I have been doing this. I went 5 times a week all the way up until the middle of October and then I just started getting injured here and there. I slit my hand open at work and had to get stitches, hurt my back at hockey after my ahnd healed. Just been one set back after another and my back is feeling really good latel so Im going to get back into it and get back up to 200LBS again. Im sitting at around 188 right now so with some discipline and eating right this is very easily reachable.

For sure tomorrow Im hitting the 10k hands at one level point. Im going to post my graphs and stats too see if you guys can recommend anywhere for me to improve. Who knows, maybe I can wreck tomorrow to and get my roll to where I want it to be for the next level and start killing it this weekend. Im pretty sure I got a hockey game tomorrow so I might not be getting in a hell of a lot of hands tomorrow either.

Hope everyone is having a good day today and it continues through the night.

R.I.P Flo by PplusAD, November 20

I was in a metalcore band from 2000-2005 being the drummer. ( I quit drumming 3 years ago)
12.december.2005 the 2nd guitar player and close friend Flo died in a car accident in Erlangen.
He was 22years old , had a job as media designer and also was in a happy relationship with his girlfriend.

Every year on 12.december there is a concert of my former band to remind us of him.

I remeber his last words when we met on a concert :
" Hey Addy see u again soon "
like a few weeks later he died in that accident.

We spend a little over 1 year togteher in the band jamming every damn weekend for 4-10 hours together making music and having fun.
We also visit concerts together and stuff.

22 days to go till the many friends and different bandmembers of bands with who we were in contact that time met again

I just brought this up since i had a conversation with the singer of the band few days ago.

Its strange but it feels like the longer someone is dead the more u miss just this one opportunity to see the old friend again and make some music , hang around and have some fun.

R.I.P flo

here is the Homepage of my former Band

http://www.myspace.com/sindromefamily

i especially listen to the song " Worst Case" since its the song written directly after the deadly accident happend

tourney score = doomswitch "on" by whamm!, November 20

Lol. I was kinda expecting this after lucksacking a supernova tourney. but it's ok really. still down about 7bi total but really just 1bi if i deduct the rb i can convert now. its just tough not being able to win a decent amoung after almost playing perfectly at FR but results just keep raping and raping me over. tokeweed and i have been thinking of what business or investment to go into early next year just so that i dont have to play more of this stupid game i really cant beat at a site that lets me win money but just fucks me up in the head adn ruins my mood IRL. i still cant make those big superstar folds especially when im on a little tilt mode. Its been a great year still and ive been able to pull off a decent amount despite having some huge personal problems to deal with even up to this day, id like to think that once ive settled this shit,i can finally be stable enough emotionally to deal with downswings and variance and make like 3 times what i made this year, i really feel my game is a lot stronger now and i only have to let go of some nittiness and release some of that gamble i really have inherent in me, especially now that i have a good amount of money saved in the bank for next year's business plans. i really am very optimistic about next year for me, i think it will finally be my breakthrough year and im planning to quit poker after next year and be financially stable enough to not rely on such a mindfucking trade. lol.
