March. by Zalfor, March 31

Like everyone else i am posting a march post. My original goal for march was to get to nl50, and beat it and get ready for nl100. In every sense of that I have accomplished my goal.

I'm up 3.1k for the month, which is good. I cashed out 1k out of my roll, and dropped 2 BI yesterday so I am at 2.8 in my BR now. I have fixed my red line towards the end as well. I did miss my goal of hitting 100k hands of nl50, but seeing as how i'm only 3k hands away, I could either play that today or just be like wtv. It's only 3k hands. I was really hoping to hit 100k hands of nl50 and I feel that i'm pretty much there. Running at around 3ptbb/100 overall is good, and in my last 70k hands it been around 4ptbb and last 10k its like 10ptbb or something. But anyways, it's been a really good month. Lots of hard work and effort definitely, and NO ROLL TILTING!!!

Recently I've opened my game to a 24/20 style which in my opinion is much more profitable, definitely better than the nit style i used to play.

I hit platnum star, lolz and I'm 63k VPP from Supernova. I earned like 25k VPPs or more last month, and by playing nl100, I'll prob. make Supernova in april or late may.

I would definitely like to say thank you to mikeymoo who's been supporting me throughout and thank you to everyone who's helped me here and there. I won't let any of you down and will continue to chug along!

I suck.. by killThemDonks, March 31

March sucked. March life tilted me. Worst losing month so far (EVER), even with rakeback included. Not sure how much I'm down exactly probably > 700$ (tourney's and cash). BR is in bad shape, real life finances in bad shape as well FML. My mom is paying all my bills atm, was thinking I should ask her for a stake. Otherwise, its back to grinding NL20. So much for a +4k month...

Goal for April:
[ ] not to suck at poker

p.s. FML...

Oblig. March post by ShadowDrgn, March 31

http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/9610/march09graph.jpg

So I managed to turn March around after spending most of the middle of the month at NL25 recouping the losses from NL50. Fortunately I hit a heater and am now a lifetime 4.28 BB/100 NL50 winner (over a tiny 8000 hand sample). Unfortunately, I won a lot of that being a weak tight shitty player. I also managed to hit gold star yesterday, yay.

I don't anticipate being able to put in the hours needed for platinum star in April so my goal is to simply maintain gold. I reupped my DC membership and plan to watch 1 poker video a day to work on my game, something that I haven't done seriously in March.

I also uploaded a lot of hands that no one commented on, but looking at them now, none of them are all that important.

March and thoughts by edzwoo, March 31

Started off March 24 tabling NL50 because I had no confidence in my game. Played about 6k hands and was playing and running bad. I stopped playing for a bit, watched some DeucesCracked videos, bought my new monitor and then started back up 12 tabling the new 50bb fast tables.

I was playing better but was running hot. Went back to NL100 and absolutely crushed it. Played some NL200, ran bad again but only dropped a few buyins. I barely played this month (27k hands but half was donking around NL50 mass multitabling).

I cashed out a total of $2800, when my roll was around $5000 with the intention of depositing it on other sites but that never happened and I never ended up redepositing LOL.

Right now I'm not sure whether to take aggro shots at NL200 or to stay at NL100 for a bit. I've taken 2 shots, first shot I got variance'd hard for -5bi, second shot I went up 3bi in 2k hands, but got variance'd again and dropped -3bi over a bit. I originally thought there was nearly no difference in the amount of fish, but if you table select carefully, you realize there is nearly twice as many fish at NL100 than there is at NL200. I'm not sure but after discovering my super secret formula to destroying everyone at NL100 (as mentioned in previous a previous blogpost), I THINK my true win rate at NL100 is bigger than 5ptbb/100. Oh and don't go flying back to expect to see some crazy insightful post because I pretty much just said, "play better" and isolate the fish more often.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/userpoll/draw.php?poll_id=815
Poll: What should edzwoo do?
(Vote): NL100 is good money, stay there for a while and cashout occasionally.
(Vote): Take aggressive shots at NL200 around 20-25bi
(Vote): Take shots at NL200 25+ bi

I don't want to start cashing out again until I've made a decision that I'm staying at a limit where I am most profitable. I am very good about taking a shot and moving down if running bad, so tilting my roll is not an issue. Another thing is for a college student like myself, beating NL100 at a strong rate is VERY, VERY good money. In fact, I could probably live off of it. Of course, if I'm only keeping myself to a certain limit, it's not nearly as +EV in the long run if I had the potential to be making more.

Some other thoughts I've been having is starting up a poker club here at UIUC and educate some fish to beat NL5 or something. I'm actually shocked that there isn't one, so it leads me to believe there is some rule against it, but I'll find out. If this goes through, I'll probably be posting stuff related to it on LP to get feedback from you guys.

Anyways, here are some graphs:

5 hours til april by CrownRoyal, March 31

Pretty much my 2nd fulltime month ever. This is all 2-12 tabling although mostly 4-8 tabling. I put in a LOT of hours and tried really hard so it feels amazing to have that all work out with results that i'm very proud of. It doesn't look like I'm gonna get to move up to nl200 any time soon cause i wanna have pretty hefty pockets before I do but nonetheless very satisfied with the results and I'm pretty upset about not getting to move up to nl200. That's ok though cause these are basically the only nl100 hands ive played in 2 years or something so there's prob still stuff for me to learn here, 40k hands isn't much.

Drug issue by ToTehEastSide, March 31

I would have posted this yesterday but I never got around to getting back to this site
This is a weekly column that Ron Paul does. You can find it at www.house.gov/paul
I love this whole article, but to save me time I will post the article and then spoiler a copy of it where I bold/color/italicize on the points I really like. If you prefer audio, just click on the link above or click on the spoiler below to hear the audio only on youtube
+ Show Spoiler +

End the War on Drugs

We have recently heard many shocking stories of brutal killings and ruthless violence related to drug cartels warring with Mexican and US officials. It is approaching the fever pitch of a full blown crisis. Unfortunately, the administration is not likely to waste this opportunity to further expand government. Hopefully, we can take a deep breath and look at history for the optimal way to deal with this dangerous situation, which is not unprecedented.

Alcohol prohibition in the 1920’s brought similar violence, gangs, lawlessness, corruption and brutality. The reason for the violence was not that making and selling alcohol was inherently dangerous. The violence came about because of the creation of a brutal black market which also drove profits through the roof. These profits enabled criminals like Al Capone to become incredibly wealthy, and militantly defensive of that wealth. Al Capone saw the repeal of Prohibition as a great threat, and indeed smuggling operations and gangland violence fell apart after repeal. Today, picking up a bottle of wine for dinner is a relatively benign transaction, and beer trucks travel openly and peacefully along their distribution routes.

Similarly today, the best way to fight violent drug cartels would be to pull the rug out from under their profits by bringing these transactions out into the sunlight. People who, unwisely, buy drugs would hardly opt for the back alley criminal dealer as a source, if a coffeehouse-style dispensary was an option. Moreover, a law-abiding dispensary is likely to check ID’s and refuse sale to minors, as bars and ABC stores tend to do very diligently. Think of all the time and resources law enforcement could save if they could instead focus on violent crimes, instead of this impossible nanny-state mandate of saving people from themselves!

If these reasons don’t convince the drug warriors, I would urge them to go back to the Constitution and consider where there is any authority to prohibit private personal choices like this. All of our freedoms – the freedom of religion and assembly, the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, the right to be free from unnecessary government searches and seizures – stem from the precept that you own yourself and are responsible for your own choices. Prohibition laws negate self-ownership and are an absolute affront to the principles of freedom. I disagree vehemently with the recreational use of drugs, but at the same time, if people are only free to make good decisions, they are not truly free. In any case, states should decide for themselves how to handle these issues and the federal government should respect their choices.

My great concern is that instead of dealing deliberatively with the actual problems, Congress will be pressed again to act quickly without much thought or debate. I can’t think of a single problem we haven’t made worse that way. The panic generated by the looming crisis in Mexico should not be redirected into curtailing more rights, especially our second amendment rights, as seems to be in the works. Certainly, more gun laws in response to this violence will only serve to disarm lawful citizens. This is something to watch out for and stand up against. We have escalated the drug war enough to see it only escalates the violence and profits associated with drugs. It is time to try freedom instead.

March by Gawuss, March 31

I couldn't come up with an original idea to start this blog entry so I'll just begin with: It was another lazy but still a pretty good month for me. I made over $6k (including rb from February which I got 2 weeks ago) and once again I proved to be a fucking layabout. Just look at the amount of hands I played:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/2d792d1e78ce161ccdc215c29078cc18.jpg
*curious detail* I had a one -$3k day
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/c552209d2531ef5684ff2ea4a48e27be.jpg

There are things I definitely need to improve and that's why I'm starting a 5-week-long course with D_Zoo. I'm really excited about it. We're gonna have a test session tomorrow.

I won that bet with my cousin where he was supposed to play 102,8k hands in March but he still hasn't given me the prize (a bottle of Dom Perignon)

Ok, I guess I don't have anything more to write about today , maybe only that just 3 months are left to my 18th bday I've already booked a club where I and my friend are throwing a bday party together. But more on that in a month or so.

Ok, so to end this entry in a different way than I always do, I'll quote D_Zoo's prediction of how the course is going to look like:

"Ship the purples !"

New to liquid poker by TheBowlBoy, March 31

Hey I've been lurking around here for a bit, and I have to say there is some really good content here and I like the friendly atmosphere. I play 25NL FR on Stars and hope to improve my game, move up, and make some friends.

Not too many people can say that they have a real life poker nick name. I guess it was about 4-5 years ago that I was first introduced to texas hold'em. I met this guy who was having a b-day party for his daughter, and my daughter was invited. We talked a lot about different stuff while all the kids played and became friends. He invited me to a poker game hosted by one of his friends. It was fixed limit, and I had no idea what I was doing but I made $17 profit by hitting some backdoor gut shot straight draws.
A few games later, everybody wanted to switch to NL. I was actually kinda scared. I had read Lee Jones' book and was now trying to beat this home game for a good clip (im very competitive and have always looked for an edge in anything I do). I bought NLHTAP by sklansky and miller and just played really tight at those games and valuebet the snot out of everybody. We would play .25/.50 cash games but the buy in was only $20 which kinda sucked I was able to valuetown people with TPTK, and I'd seriously make like at least $50 everynight.
This one night the host was lazy and we had a big game of like 11 people and rather than mess with all these denominations the host declared that every chip was worth a quarter. I made over $150 that night because I was smacked in the face with the deck on almost every hand that I played, and nobody was folding, and people just kept rebuying. I had so many 25cent chips that I needed something to hold them in because I couldnt stack my chips between hands before I won another big hand. No joke. What do you think I was given to hold them in?
You guessed it! A bowl. A big plastic rubbermaid potato chip bowl, full of white, green, red, blue and black chips, with a the odd ten or twenty dollar bill as I was now the guy to talk to you if you wanted to rebuy. The guy sitting across from me looked at me, sitting down behind my massive bowl of chips, and a smirk on my face and said: "I know what I'm gonna call you... I'm gonna call you TheBowlBoy!"
Needless to say it stuck, and those poker guys call me that to this day and the story still gets retold when newcomers join our games to explain why they call me that.

Anyone willing to buy action for this event?

It's a 10k on Thursday. I'm not 100% I'm going to play it, going to see how much action I can sell. If I can't sell 50% I'll probably just play live cash or something.

March for low stake grinder by FallinInLove, March 31

After april i had to take out my 1300$ bankroll and finance some real life things. I was left with 480$,so i put that on my ongamenet acc and it is goin well, beated nl30 with 13bb/100 fullring and 14.4//9.7 stats.Started 50nl full ring 6days ago and its goin fine, more regs and better players alot less limping goin on and less fish, but i am starting to recognize different player types and start to make some money from them.
I am also running very good because my ev is like 200$ lower than my actual winnings.
Happy that i developed very low variance money makin style for fullring, but i am waiting for some variance(doomswitches) to hit. Hope to hit nl100 in a month or so.

March by EXCELED, March 31

March went pretty good for me for the most part but I started to play kinda shitty near the end of the month which Im mad at myself for. I managed to reach my goal of playing 40k hands and finally being able to play NL25 fulltime. If I didnt make so many withdrawls this month I would be playing NL50 by now but its alright I dont mind grinding it out at NL25 for a while.

http://i427.photobucket.com/albums/pp360/mbs03/mor09.jpg

+ $367 Cash Games
+ $250 Tourneys

So I made just over $600 which is alright but I really feel I could have done a lot better if I didnt end up playing so bad the last week. I was getting coolered a lot and I think I might have gone a bit on tilt and ended up spewing away chips. I got it under control now but I dug myself a little hole to get out of which is never fun.

I decided that it is in my best interest to get of Stars and go to a site that has rake back. I did a little rakeback calculation the other day and it said with the amount I play at NL25 Im looking at over 1k in rakeback! Thats a lot of money that I would like to have but will never see if I stay on Stars so I decided I am going to move to UltimateBet for the rakeback and the 111% deposit bonus they have going right now. I wanted to go to FTP but I already have an account on there and it doesnt have rakeback. I dont feel like going through the hassle of trying to make a new account and gettig away with it etc.

So for April Im going to set out a few goals here:

- 40k+ Hands
- $1k in Rakeback
- Clear bonus on UB
- $500+ Profits from cashgames
- $200+ from Tourneys
- $2k Month in total profits
- Move to NL50

Each goal there is easily obtainable. I just have to stay disciplined and things should be fine. Im hoping to have my whole roll switched over by the weekend so I can put in some serious hours. It usually takes about 2 days on Stars for me to get my cashouts so I wont be playing much during the rest of the week but thatsprobably or the better because I have a lot of school work I need ot get done and I could use a little bit of a break from poker as well. Been grinding like crazy so a little break cant hurt. Im excited to see that I have the potential to bring home $2k this month if everything goes as planned. This would be my biggest month by far! Cant wait to see where this takes me.

Anyways Im off to class guys,
Cheers.

MTTs n shit by NeillyJQ, March 31

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm the casino................ ethics...................

So I went to the casino last night and got slowrolled and pwned by some hawaiian guy, lost around $900

oh well, he flopped the stones, I turned the nut straight (AK vs TT on TTJQ board)

had a really great weekend with Q (Quocy04), adolpho (rS.eVaDe, Danny and Bucky from San Fransisco *they stayed with Q and I)

Spent the day working on my FR game today, decided to play NL50 and start making some money back

Managed to win $107.30 in 6 hours of play at full ring today. Adolpho is teaching me so much about playing with no emotion, staying patient and giving my opponents more credit. My games coming a long way, although I realize I have sooooooooo far to go until I'll be a 1/2 - 3/6 winner itlr.

So, I ran 12-15 cash tables on my laptop monitor and 4-10 tournies on my right monitor (a few $4 180 mans, 1 $109 turbo (lost TT vs 88 for the chiplead with 90 to go....) and had a sick beat in the $55 turbo too...

oh well, managed to do well in the $33 360 man, ended up losing blind vs blind A8dd vs AQss for 4th place, and won a $4 180 man as well

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/663362

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/ef0f3433961988fd9c40f60ffac9cee3.jpg

Payed my first months rent here in Vegas, I'm exhausted right now, theres been so many lessons everyday out here, and tbh I've made some mistakes, and working hard to learn from each of them so I can become as profitable as possible.

Ok, so we have $320 deepstacks starting April 1st, around $30,000 for first, I'm most likely playing in them and having 50% of my action taken (anyone in vegas that wants to take 50% of my action is welcome to, other than that, Q will be taking 50% of my action sometimes and i'll take 50% of him sometimes)

Feeling really well right now, pretty tired, partied pretty hard with the crew this weekend, can't wait to meet more LP'ers and great players.

I've made so many realizations of how bad of a player I've been for so long. I've cut my VPP/PFR to 18.52/14.65 at FR and increased my AF by very much.

I'm going to spend 100% of my time on FR and MTT's (other than teaching my roommate some 6max and head up strategy)

I'm close to being at NL100 which is where I plan to ceiling for atleast 50-200k hands, maybe more

Oh...the guy that stacked me with TT last night on the TTJQ board had a few hundos under his stack, which really threw me off, if I knew he was that deep I would have most likely led 150 into the $300 pot instead of shoving, but w/e, learn from my mistake and make sure I know exact stact sizes for now on.

I'm working my hardest to stay away from any temptations that would lead me to bad decision making, and also becoming the best that I can be.

It seems that everyday in my new home in Nevada is a learning experience, trying not to get to out of hand in sin city and keep myself in check, although I still don't have a voice from fridays night out (well i do, kinda...)

Also, I'm going to make sure that I never play more than 10 hour live sessions for now on. I've been bringing 330 to the casino daily and leaving if losing, but broke that rule last night and ended up losing $900 after that guy stacked me (he slowrolled 2 players at the table, and me on the pivotal hand)

Went and got 1k more and by the time the money was there, he was racking up and I only won $45 off of him =

This week I'm going to spend most of the week playing online, with a few days of live play.

I hope your all doing well, Fayths at the Venetian right now...but to be totally honest I can't even keep my eyes open to go and meet him tonight. Hope hes still in town tomorrow

I'm really looking forward to meeting Fayth, Frinkx, Bigred, and the rest of the LP'ers who regularly visit my new home :-)

Gonna go listen to deuces cracked, I'll talk to you guys later and keep you updated

Much <3

Fish...... by MARSHALL28, March 31

I know this is going to seem ridiculous and very stupid to a lot of people but I just don't care. I need to gripe about this and vent about it because it's literally driving me up the wall. I CAN'T BEAT FISH!

I can't imagine how much money I've lost to fish in the last month. Yes, I'm aware I made 16k over the course of March, but the majority of it has come from taking a bunch of money off of regulars. I honestly feel that I have no edge on many fish. I check their BB/100 in PTR before playing them, and it seems to me that the higher their BB/100 is in the red, THE WORSE I DO AGAINST THEM. For example, take this guy I'm playing right now, cspro2k. He's -18BB/100 in PTR, however he's up 2 buy ins on me over the course of the last hour and a half. I'm on what's turned into an almost 5k downswing right now, and the majority of my losses have come against fish. All my big wins are against regulars, I take the most from them, and it makes sense to me why I win. I'm definitely not saying I own all regulars or anything like that because there are definitely many regulars much better than me. The issue is that when a fish starts to get up on me, I FEEL LIKE I CAN'T QUIT BECAUSE I THINK I HAVE THIS HUGE EDGE. If a regular gets up on me, I have no problem quitting immediately, I don't tilt when I start to lose to a reg because it's pretty easy for me to accept that on this given day he outplayed me, or he got a bit better run of cards. If a fish starts to beat me, I will lose MANY MANY buy ins. I'm prone to lose in upwards of 10 buy ins to any fish. It's happened multiple times this month, if you check my PTR DB and check who my worst enemies are, the majority of them are fish. I'm so sick of struggling with this and almost feel the need to strictly play against regs, at least I know I show a profit vs them. Also, my life is much easier when I play against strictly regs as I tilt much less and have lower stress levels in general. My stress levels BECOME SO HIGH when I'm trying to beat a fish and can't do it. I've been complaining about this for a long time and my friends just tell me it's variance or just make fun of me for not being able to do it telling me how easy it is. IT'S NOT EASY FOR ME, IT'S VERY VERY HARD and it's something I either have to improve at or just avoid.

So go ahead, flame and laugh away. It's the truth, I'm glad I got it off my chest regardless. Aside from venting, I should set some sort of goal here. I think what I'm going to do is work with a few of my coaches on just this aspect specifically for the month of April. If I am still feeling the same way about my play against the fish by the end of April, I'll decide to just completely avoid them and just play the regs, well, at least the ones who don't dodge me.

Life tilt. by TheHuHu3, March 31

Decided to go play live poker tonight at a local casino. $1/$2 no-limit, $300 max buy-in. I buy in for the max and within an hour I run it up to $800+. I decide to play one more hand before I cash out and I see QQ. I end up losing $140 to some maniac who had 54s on a J54 flop. So Now I have roughly $650 and decide to keep playing and over the course of 4 more hours, I end up losing it all. FML. FML FML LFMAFHAJHSDUIASHDUIAHSD
