This is fucking bullshit
  KeanuReaver, Dec 06 2007

So for those of you who know, I've had a whole lot of problems in getting everything ready for the Sydney APPT event. Well, the latest problem is just absolutely ridiculous.

My passport is being delayed, because the identification I submitted wasn't "satisfactory". Apparently I have to submit an extra 5 pieces of identification as well as a copy of my high school yearbook. The reason for this? The guy from the company I'm going through that is expediting my passport just said my ID wasn't satisfactory, and the page he linked me to on their website said it was because my drivers license was issued less than 6 months ago. My drivers license was issued to me in '05.

But I'm not an idiot. the real reason is pretty clear to me. I've got curly black hair and a big beard, my first name is Mehdi and my middle name is Mohammad. I'm Iranian and because of that some idiots in DC are going to make me jump through a bunch of fucking hoops for them just like I've done every time I wanted to board a plane after 9/11. And what choice do I have? If it isn't done by the end of the day I probably will not be able to get my passport on time and pstars has already emailed me that I won't get any compensation should I miss the event.

I'm so fucking angry.

back from the dunes
  KeanuReaver, Nov 25 2007

people get rowdy real quick, my friends fiancee couldn't handle the atmosphere and was real snappy at us most of the weekend.

we drank way too much beer, it was just ridiculous how many cans we had to clean up before we left glamis.

when your knee is already injured, you should not go riding at night when drunk. when you decide to go riding at night when drunk with an injured knee and you feel your quad about to roll, you should not try to brace yourself and your bike up with the injured knee. i learned these lessons the hard way, and i have a grapefruit sized knee for my troubles. there's bruising around the inside of the knee where i initially tore it and the outside of my knee has sharp pains in it constantly. i can't wait to see what extra damage i've done.

in any case, it's time to now start preparing for the trip to APPT sydney. im hoping to get names and numbers from lp.netters that'll be there so we can hang out and party. if you're going send me your name and number or just an aim s/n.

November so far
  KeanuReaver, Nov 18 2007

I've decided to take a break over the weekend. Monday I've got approx. 100 million errands to run, Tuesday me and a friend will be going shopping for a 4 day thanksgiving trip to the dunes, Wednesday we leave. When I get back, I'll be buying Mass Effect and holing up myself up with my xbox for a while. In other words, this could very well be my end of the month post.

In any case, a breakdown of November.
-$5,735 playing NL400 and NL600
-$2,500 random crap (gambling, drunk poker at friends house, tourney buyins)
+$12,000 value for PCA sat
+$9,000 value for Sydney APPT sat

Total: $12,765 in value.

Unfortunately, I've also had to loan my mom $6k and the complete idiocy of American Family Insurance will be costing me another $2k.

So to recap. This month I've had my worst run playing 6max NLHE ever (in terms of cash lost, not buyins down). I've had my two biggest tourney scores by far in winning the sats. And my bills and extra expenditures for the month have been 5 times more than I'm used to. This month has been a huge headache, but I feel like I've done more growing up this month than I have in the past year.

Doomswitches, cookie baskets, and supernovas
  KeanuReaver, Nov 13 2007

oh my!

So I started this month by winning a PCA sat from the step system, 12k value to begin the month, I was expecting this to be my most profitable month ever. Nope. After my mom borrowed 6k I proceeded to drop 15 buyins at NL600 (netloss: 15k) with a mix of bad luck and bad play (isn't it always?).

But I had a plan! Not too long ago I ordered a cookie basket from the fpp store for shits and giggles. Well, it got here today and I put it right in front of my monitor to play a session. +5 buyins baby. Doomswitch melts under the power of the cookie basket.

Also managed to achieve supernova today as well. that means lots of cookie baskets in my future.

October at a glance
  KeanuReaver, Nov 01 2007

Short Summary: I run good at NL600, bad at everything else.

Long Summary: Down slightly in flips to Raidan and he owned me pretty badly HU too. NL400 is my drunken game and has been for a while, 20k hands and my winrate is about -2ptbb/100. Also took a few shots at NL1k and NL2k, mostly chasing fish but obviously it didn't go so well. Also lost a decent amount of money playing the PCA and APPT steps as well as in sports bets so my total earnings for the month is probably somewhere around $15k. Still a strong month.

While I think I'm playing very strong and can definitely beat NL600 and NL1k for a decent winrate, I've also learned a lot about some leaks I have. Working on these leaks is going to take time and experience so I really need to up my hand output for the month. 25k needs to be a monthly minimum and I should really look to boost it to 30-40k.

Also went to the block party at ASU last night dressed as a terrorist. I honestly have no idea how many times I had my picture taken, was great times!

Good day today
  KeanuReaver, Oct 26 2007

up 3k at NL600. mix of running good, good setup hands, and what i felt was some pretty strong play. i played a lot tighter than normal though (something like 24/18ish) as there was much less opportunities for isolation raises and my position vs the good regs suggested i should be looking to play less pots vs them (and more aggressively when i do choose to play)

then i go +1k in flips vs raidan, owned wut
then he hustles me out of 1k by playing me hu.

it's weird how even though you have an enormous day, if you end it poorly it still feels bad. hoping for 15k month for october, if i can duplicate that for november and december i wont have to choose between PCA and new car.

UFC 77
  KeanuReaver, Oct 22 2007

Decided to report on the fights I saw as well as my picks.

Alan Belcher vs Kalib Starnes: Belcher came out looking really good, connecting with a whole lot of strikes (one that opened up an axe wound on kalib's head) and controlling the clinch. Kalib looked like he was starting to make a comeback with some aggressive boxing but the gash on his head was too big and the blood was pooling in his eyes so the ref stopped it in the second round. My pick: belcher by 2nd round KO/TKO.

Stephan Bonnar vs Eric Schafer: Considering both were supposed to be 205ers, Bonnar looked enormous compared to Schafer. It showed in the fight too, Bonnar controlled the action and outmuscled Schafer any time he tried to take it to the ground. Schafer did manage to take Bonnars back in the first round but bonnar kept his cool and defended well before rolling into Schafers guard. Schafer pulled guard in the second round and Bonnar responded by raining down a whole lot of gnp that eventually led to the stoppage. Sherdog article writers once again prove their idiocy by stating pulling guard is the grappling equivalent of taking your ugly sister to the prom. My pick: Bonnar by 1st round sub.

Alvin Robinson vs Jorge Gurgel: Jorge looked good...in the first round. He controlled the ground action and showed some very good control and passing, but he never did anything with it. 2nd and 3rd round were all Kid Robinson with some vicious gnp, Robinson would take a UD. Gurgel needs to stick with teaching, he just isn't a fighter. My pick: Gurgel by 1st round sub, wups.

Brandon Vera vs Tim Sylvia: I hate sylvia, that's all. I just hate him. I hate how he talks, I hate how he fights, I hate the lame shit he does before and after a fight. But he fought a smart fight here. For some reason Vera felt he should clinch up with a man 5 inches taller and 40 pounds heavier than him. It didn't work out, and somewhere along the way he broke his hand. He managed a nice little flurry of kicks at the end of round two but nothing outside of that. Tim Sylvia wins a painfully boring UD. My pick: Tim Sylvia by UD.

Rich Franklin vs Anderson Silva: At the end of the first round I went to my brother and said Silva scares the shit out of me. His striking is so much better than the 2nd best striker at UFC's 185 that it's not even fair to compare. Rich had a couple strikes land but Silva dominated the clinch as expected and landed at will with his quick stiff punches. He even added in the Rashad Dance in the middle of the fight. He would end up picking up the win after the 2nd time he knocked Rich down in the second round, the first time Rich was saved by the 1st round bell. My pick: Anderson Silva by 2nd round KO/TKO

Demian Maia vs Ryan Jensen: I'm happy I got to see my homer pick, and the fight went down about how I thought it would. Jensen isn't a slouch on the ground, but Maia is a pan am's champ, mundial champ, and adcc champ...there's just no chance here. Maia took Jensen down, passed at will, and when Jensen tried to stand up Maia took the opportunity to take Jensens back. A minute later, after Jensen tried desperately to defend the choke, Maia got the sub by RNC. My pick: Maia by 1st round sub.

All in all, I thought the event was great. It didn't have as many big names as the previous UFC but it did have some very good fights. Belcher looked athletic and strong. Bonnar is huge and well rounded, his size alone will cause problems for 205ers. Robinson has a very good all around ground game, he's a little weak off of his back but his top position is very strong. Sylvia continues to use his size to win him fights and his opponents continue to let him or play right into it. And of course, A. Silva is looking about as unbeatable as any fighter in the world right now. Even though he's shown he has great BJJ, it's gonna take a ground fighter to beat him. That could be Maia as while Silva's ground game is strong, Maia is one of the top 10 best grapplers in the world.

Most importantly, I dominated Fantasy mma. Ship the monies Fox Mig and Naz!
