a long HL real but one of my favs ever.

3:35 is so insane. His gnp is the most devasting of any fighter. More then fedor. While fedor's gnp + his subs is the best top position in all of mma. For just gnp kid is the king.

The guy in 3:35 was insulting kids family prefight. So kid decided to make an example of him. People seriously think faber would beat him. Just fyi all these fights are at 155 and kid is a 145 fighter.

Ultimate Fight Night pics and a few other things
  Fox, Mar 24 2008

So training is going well. I was able to meet up with some ATT members. Thiago alves and Marcus Aurelio. Thiago is pretty beastly both seem cool I didn't get to train with them much. Mostly they were using our gyms facility to train before the UFN in colorado.

Here are the fights and i'll make some picks.

Kenny Florian Vs. Joe Lauzon-

Good fight. This is not easy to pick. Kenny has really good technique and he's very calm and paces himself. But this is not a 5 round fight, if it was i'd say he would have a large advantage. i think Joe's explosive ability gives him a good chance in the fight. This is a very even fight but i'm going to pick Joe as the upset by UD. I don't know if he can finish kenny but if he does it's going to probably be strikes from mount.

Thiago Alves Vs. Karo Parisyan-

Also good fight. Karo is one of my fav guys because i'm a judo fan this fight is pretty close. Thiago has great kicks and karo being a judo fighter might have issues because he's used to planting being a judoka. I don't think this will be an issue since karo has upgraded from a judo guy into a true mma fighter.

I think karo should win this, he will get in the clinch and take thiago down and either ground him for 3 rounds or pound him. I don't think he gets a sub against him. Karo's problem is if thiago gets top position which i think is unlikely but if he does get on the bottom to thiago he could be in for a world of hurt. But considering karo is rarely on his back i think this is karo's fight to lose.

Matt Hamill Vs. Tim Boetsch-

Tim is a big strong dude who likes to hit things. Unfortunately Matt has serious strength and i don't think tim can muscle him around. Matt also has a strong chin so i see this being tim hurting him early but matt controlling him 3 rounds for a decision.

Kurt Pellegrino Vs. Nathan Diaz -

man so many good fights. Both these guys are good on the ground. But Diaz's camp is so good and he'll be so prepared until he faces a really strong fighter i'm picking him to win by sub. I think he wins this by RNC/armbar/triangle/whatever he wants. But this is gonna be a good ground war.

James Irvin Vs. Houston Alexander-

Flip a coin. Houston is undersized and james is a large dude but man whoever connects can win this. I'm going to say Houston because i think he has quicker hands and against james i think he can ko him before he gets koed. James might take this to the ground (might) and maybe he could win there... but most like houston by manly right hook.

Gray Maynard Vs. Frank Edgar-

omfg this is gonna rock. Gray is a really good wrestler and a strong fighter. But edgar is just a beast and he looks so normal but he's just run through everyone in the ufc. I think this ends with frank winning standing and keeping gray off guard with shoots. I don't think gray can take frank down... this could be frank winning by strikes standing/finishing on the ground. or a UD. This is a bad fight for gray.
This could be a tuneup fight to give Frank a title shot against the penn/joe winner or a rematch between him and tyson.

Josh Neer Vs. Din Thomas-

this fight could be the main event if it was another day. Din vs Josh two great fighters. If Din comes back 100% from the injury he wins this by strikes/sub/decision. It hink more like decision cuz josh is really tough as nails but this is din's fight for sure he's more well rounded and more athletic. The only thing Josh may have is a bigger heart.

Ryan Roberts Vs. Marcus Aurelio-

Marcus by sub the end.

Jeff Cox Vs. Manvel Gamburyan-

If manny's shoudler holds together he wins 1st round. Jeff is a can.

Samy Schiavo Vs. Clay Guida-

Guida could be champ in ANY OTHER ORG but in this org he faces so many tough fighters. He was crushing the shit out of huerta before he lost. his fight against tyson was super close and i think he wins that 50/50 of the time. Guida is a beast and he just outpaces everyone with his pace and cardio. If he ever became champ it would be so ahrd to beat him in 5 founds. Samy is gonna get his clocked cleaned by my hero.

Roman Mitichyan Vs. George Sotiropoulos-

Great fight for both guys. I see george by strikes on top in the 2nd round.

Anthony Johnson Vs. Tom Speer-

After tom got assraped by Mac it's hard to say how good he really is on the ground. never seen johnson fight before so i can't comment. I'm hoping Mac is just REALLY good on the ground and just made tom look bad and tom is actually good. gnp 3 rounds for a decision to Tom.

Boy was I wrong.
  Fox, Mar 03 2008

So up to ufc 82 keanu/myself/naz were all talking about the hendo anderson fight.

I kept going both ways but finally last second switched to hendo. This is how close the fight was to me. Anderson has weaknesses on the ground but they are few. If a strong wrestler can get top position anderson lacks the core strength to do anything and he can get pounded out. However his technique and length allow him to find aways to escape. First round hendo showed why he's got the skill to pound him. But 2nd round showed a few things. One anderson doesn't get passive when he's hurt he gets mad and takes the fight right back at you. He came out 2nd round with guns blazing and looked like a sniper ready to fire. Two after he caught hendo with a knee and didn't let up and finished him on the ground.

Anderson has that ability to finish a fighter at any given moment. There are only like 2-3 fighters in the world who have that kind of ability. BJ penn/Crocop/Gomi. They at any notice when given an opening will crush you and it's not a suprise that they are 3 of the most feared humans on earth. However all three only finish you in one manner. Anderson can finish you standing or on the ground which is nuts! Keanu and i agree his overall ground game is top 5 at 185. While he's weak to wrestlers he has no issues against bjj fighters and his bjj is strong enough to finish anyone if he gets top position (ala big nog who's top 2 at top position finishing at HW fedor being the other)

So I lost a bet to naz on this. Now i have to enter a grappling competition by the end of the month and have video/pictures of it. To keanu I just get to hear about it everyday for a month now which is almost as bad.

Okami is the only guy who i think can win. Okami's style is exactly how i fight now and i love him! Even though i'm super bias to him i don't know how he can get close enough to anderson to secure a takedown. But in a 5 round fight i think he has a chance. I don't know if it's a better chance then henderson but he can do it. I just hope that if he does take the title from anderson that he finishes him and continues to finish fights. No one wants a tim sylvia boring champion. I see this with anderson finishing him with strikes standing either by ko or finishing him on the ground with strikes. Okami better train super hard and get his hands to level up a few times before he can even begin to think he can take spider.

Other then that was a pretty fun card. the serra/gsp card i'm not too excited about but the bj/sherk card... well.. ROFL OF COURSE.

Upcoming UFC card and stuff
  Fox, Feb 27 2008

So UFC this weekend. I'm pretty excited. I will make my predictions.

Anderson Silva vs. Dan Henderson
Dan is godly in the clinch and will not be run over by anderson. Both guys have great hands standup obviously in anderson's favor. I think if anderson wins this it's going to be early we've never seen him in a multiround fight however since he trains with nog i don't see it being a problem.

As is i'm going to say Anderson wins this in a decision from good strikes in 5 rounds. although i really don't want to pick this because i mean i could see dan landing a monster overhand right and finishing with gnp. I wouldn't be suprised at all, gonna be a great fight.

Cheick Kongo (Pictures) vs. Heath Herring (Pictures)

People think this is gonna be a standup war. i see this herring taking kongo down and just beating him up. Kongo has great standing mt but on the ground he's very very very suspect while herring is no slacker on the ground.

Yushin Okami (Pictures) vs. Evan Tanner (Pictures)

Okami is my fav fighter next to machida. Okami round 2 by bearhug and tanner's eye shooting from their sockets.

Jon Fitch (Pictures) vs. Chris Wilson
How does fitch make 170? he's enormous... fitch rnc

Diego Sanchez (Pictures) vs. David Bielkheden (Pictures)
diego might lose this but he's so crafty on the ground i see him winning a decision but David will make this fight difficult he's not a weakling.

Andrei Arlovski (Pictures) vs. Jake O'Brien (Pictures)
arlovski destroyed vladimire who's a godly wrestler and don't see how jake is any different.

Luke Cummo (Pictures) vs. Luigi Fioravanti (Pictures)
i like cummo a lot win by strikes

Josh Koscheck (Pictures) vs. Dustin Hazelett (Pictures)
I think kos can finish this fight and will look to since he's close to the end of his contract. Kos by rnc or kimura.

Jorge Gurgel (Pictures) vs. John Halverson

Jorge has sick ground skills but he's such a fag and likes to stand. Jorge by ud.

Poker is going ok right now. One of my masters has returned from the grave so i've been playing better just from talking mma with him. I've been doing omaha and i'm going to post once i've played about 50k hands, but so far running well.

MMA also doing good there is an upcoming grappling event in the next month i'm doing my best to get into it. I may just get in to be submitted by a brown belt, i'm itching to fight.

the end.

Random Thoughts
  Fox, Feb 14 2008

Poker is a hard game. I need a full time sensei. The End.

MMA is going great i'm thinking about going to seminar in Cal that apparently will have bas/bravo. Dunno i haven't checked into details yet.

Had a long convo with Naz about games like dota/war3/starcraft/CS/etc and the amount of strategy vs hand speed/reaction time that it takes to be good.

I used to be an ok starcraft player and I say that SC is more hand speed and reaction time then it is strategic thought. Naz disagrees and thinks that the reason i don't give starcraft it's due is because i used to be a decent player and i underestimate the time/effort i put into it to get good. He's probably right i did play for years...

Also i give more respect for teamwork based games like CS/dota/etc then i do single player games like starcraft. Now I'm not saying someone like fRod is just a superior gamer to someone like jaedong... But more that i respect the teamwork/communication aspect of his skill. I think all those games require skill just different types of it.

In any case poker is harder then all of that, although i bet if i put as much time into poker as i did starcraft (3-6 hours a day) i'd be much better lol.

Outlook for 2008 MMA / Poker
  Fox, Jan 01 2008

Some goals that i've set for myself in 2008 especially for MMA.

I'm looking to make a major push by summer/fall. I'd really like to get a few fights in and then see about applying for a spot on the ultimate fighter. This is gonna be tough because I work a normal job (a really good/fun one) and I hope they would let me take leave for about 1-2 months without quitting.

Right now one thing that i'm working on is what weight class do i want to shoot for. I'm changing my diet around and i've stopped lifting weights and i'm working on just cardio/technique/sparring see where my body takes it. Currently i'm 6'3" and about 225-235 (i was about 235-245 months ago) When i was playing college basketball i was about 205 but i bulked up in muscle/extra fat. I'm still a fit guy but i'm just more broad I want to be more quick like i was in basketball days. I'd like to cut most of my fat down to more of a 5-9% level and reduce my muscle mass slightly.

I'd like to fight at 185 and be okami (his style is so me) but if i can't make 185 i'll bulk up for 205 and cut from like 225-230. I'm taller and about the same size as rampage/chuck right now. I don't mind fighting at 205 but 185 sound so appealing if i can cut it perfectly from 205-210. In any case I should be in a few grappling tournaments in the upcoming months then have a fight soon after. It's hilarious how much training/diet/etc matters more then fighting. I mean i knew it did back in the day but the more I get into mma it's all about the training. While my gym isn't anything huge I do live in colorado which is about 6 hours from New Mexico where Greg Jackson's camp is. I've visited them a few times and a dream would be after getting on TuF and doing well to go down there and train with them full time.

Of course poker fits into this equation somewhat. I'd like to do poker on the side to sustain me financially while i do MMA. So many thing to do and I can't get them going any faster. I still have major holes when i'm on my back so that's one facet i'm looking to improve on. I also have holes in my poker game. Thankfully i have people on both mma/poker who are willing/able to help train me to improve.

So far so good i'm looking to purchase a bike this upcoming month for cardio when it's like super cold outside. I have a treadmill but it's far too loud and i can't watch motivational videos like ufc/pride/ANIME while I train. Wife also trains I dunno if i have mentioned that so we are both looking to pool together to get a heavy bag for both of us.

Some serious thoughts on the upcoming bouts we have. Joe vs BJ and Dan vs Anderson. Joe vs BJ is gonna be so insane. Does BJ take Joe seriously? Joe has some serious power and will. I don't know if he's a cardio freak for 5 rounds but i can tell you now his cardio is better then what BJ has shown. IN skill and technique obviously i give BJ the nod but Joe is not a slouch his ground especially top position is wicked good. I really look this fight to be a war and i'm actually gonna pick that Joe can pull an upset in a decision. I think his power and skill can weather BJ for the few rounds and when BJ slows down he can continue to get top position to get a victory. Honestly though BJ submitting him in the 1st/2nd round is possible. But i do think a lot of people are already giving BJ the title and man it's not gonna be easy.

As for Dan vs Anderson I do think that this is a very very hard matchup for Dan. A long guy who has great accurate lengthy strikes. Yeah Silva likes to MT it up which plays into Dans' Grecco but why bother when you can just hit him with meteors from far away? The way Anderson handled Marquardt and Rich franklin (who are both powerful guys) I hope Dan's FAR FAR better then them.. but at 185 he hasn't really shown us dominance. However! never seen dan lose to strikes ever (submission sure) so in a 5 round fight.. very curious what's gonna happen as the fight goes on and people get tired atheltic sprawls aren't as ez to come by. I don't see how dan wins this, but i don't see how anderson finishes Dan. So Anderson by decision?

Omfg UFC 79 talk
  Fox, Dec 29 2007

Poor wandy the fight was awesome but i was really suprised he didn't try to clinch more.

I coudl tell rampage was kinda sad cuz he knew if he got through forrest it would be him vs wandy for the title.

I'm sure they will still fight rampage wants his revenge.

Machida was dominant and not only that he finished the fight.

GSP is not from earth.
