Skill is nothing. Variance is everything.
I doubled my Br in 1 week.
Now i lost 1/6 of it in two days. I don't even know why ( except maybe for my last sng when i tilted and went all in on a 366 board with my TT and of course a guy had 69 ( whereas i had raised 3x the bb pre flop haha ).
My style is the same. Sometimes i win when i shouldn't sometimes i lose when i have better odds.
I have seen people with -50% ROI winning whereas they have no clue about math and probabilities.
That is awesome.
Sometimes i wonder if life is the same. Maybe stupid people can also get better jobs and life even if they don't really try.
Mother wariance you are too cool, you make my sharkscope graph look like a roller coaster. I have seen 0.5% winning vs 99.5% and you told me it is standart.
I worship you mother variance. Now let me get ITM please.

After 600 sng games i still have no clue about my level. My ROI is around 0< ->3% so this mean that i'm not good because " OMG 1$ sng are so EZ it is full of donks and fishes ! "
On the other hand i'm not a fish or a donk ( at this level ) because my ROI is > 0%.
I have this weird feeling that i'm playing with worse players and retards but i can't move to higher limit ( 5$ sng is my goal ) because my BR increase is like uber slow and i have epic swings.
It is like being trapped with stupid people.
Sometimes i envy people with "straight" graph because they have no doubts about their "skill", they know that they are gambling donks or winning players. No existential questions.

What I always really loved in sngs (apart from winning sng being about a million times better feeling than winning a big pot in cash) was that you can so easily tell if you are playing optimally and just running bad. Before 10bb action starts all hands are ultrasimple and go by the book, and with 10bbs all hands go by sngwizard. Of course there are minor things that set good users apart from typical 6.5 regulars like putting people on correct ranges, post and preflop play early but its so easy to be solid enough.
So now because Iam feeling helpfull I'll tell you how to beat sngs, this is essentially all you need to know up to 27s and on the way there you'll learn everything you need to know to beat 55s. So:
1. Play small pots, early on its so importnant to not to spend chips on cbetting missed hands. Its often ok to limp AQ AK (and this one was from Jonathan Little so no "r u srs" comments plz). When you have TPTK or better pot pot pot unless board is super scary.
2. Go DL sngwizard, no way you can become good without it http://www.sngwiz.com/ Analyze every hand that you play and you'll improve fast. Also when sngwiz tells you to shove any two you really need to shove any two! Even if you are running shit and everyone has AK all the time. And when you have extra money get tourney manager and sngicons membership.

And oh my god lol you've lost 1/6 of your bankroll? I was a solid winner at 27s (like 8.4% on 1k sample in spite of -50 bi ds) and I had like -30% of my bankroll in two days (also -600$ in one day). So if you don't like varience sngs aren't for you, then you can stick to fr nlhe.

God like that would be something to whine about? Besides in sngs its almost irrelevant how you run in spots like those (or not totally if you are doomswitched), much more importnant is running good when you have to take 55% edge on bubble etc.
oh and go ahead and scope bigjoe2003 who is one of the sng players. He had nice -100K in 4000 games  |
