Sunday Millions and Comcast ISP don't mix
  jkpickett, Feb 25 2007

So today I played in the 500+30 Sunday Millions with some of my FPPs. I was running pretty well and only had my tourney life at stake twice with about 110 left. I win a big pot to put me to 250k and I'm in 38th place or something. My table is pretty soft too and I now had the second biggest stack at it. Then it happened...Comcast put the bad beat on.

Internet hasn't gone out in weeks, but now it's dead. I tried calling several people, but since I'm on the east coast they were all sleeping to get ready for work tomorrow. I call my dad, go pick up his laptop, drive to the nearest starbucks, but they are closed by now. I'm thinking it's hopeless, but I picked up a signal from a nearby Taco Bell and went and parked in front and connected.

By now 45 minutes have passed, I'm now blinded off over a quarter of my stack, and am in like 50th out of 67 or something. My M is about 6, so I wait a few hands and push 9To and get all folds, then next hand KK and get called by A4 (who had about the same stack size as me). 44x flop comes and it's like 61st or some shit for me. Not to say I would have won or anything, but ruined my day. Thanks Comcast. Done ranting now.

Decent Session
  tae-g, Feb 25 2007

My new play for balancing poker/social life/school as well as controlling tilt is to play a session for a set amount of time every morning and no other time. This way if im making the correct poker decisions Ill profit in the long run, I wont be able to randomly tilt away money if Im having a tough session, and poker wont get in the way of my homework or my social scene. Hopefully this will go as planned. Session should be 1-1.5 hrs.

I had a good 1 hr session today..

Casino Update
  iop, Feb 25 2007

So, I got back from the Casino after playing the freezeout. We were 80 people on 10 tables. Things went pretty well to start off. I stole some blinds, and was doing pretty good. At least above average.

I find 99 in late position. I call a raise of 400 (blinds 75/150). We are three in the pot. The flop comes 9-6-6, 2 hearts SWEET! I call a bet of 700, third person goes allin the guy who made the previous bet goes allin and I ofcourse call. The show: JJ, and AA. An ace came on the turn, and I had to leave the table 62nd place. Oh well thats poker.

My roommate wanted to play some cash games, so he sat down and played 20/20 (swedish crowns) pot limit. I didn't feel like it but I still registered and was waiting for a place at the table. After getting some money, I saw that they had opened a NL table (50/50). Roughly $7/$7.

So I sit down with $210, I take down a couple of pots so I get up to around $300. I raise (botton) to 400, I get a reraise to 1200. After thinking for a minute or two I put my chips in the middle with AJc. I flopped a jack and he mucks his cards (SHIP IT). So I'm doing pretty good now, I got around 6000kr ($840). But I seem to lose a couple of pots, and I leave the table with 4200 (almost $600). So I've had a pretty good weekend, +$600 (including friday).

Uhm, I'll probably get my UltimateBet account going this week, clear their bonus. As I said in the last two blogs; (any diets tips, please let me know:D)

Trends in Poker
  nolan, Feb 25 2007

Hey Guys.

I've really been struggling lately. Well not struggling, more like swimming uphill. It's really been weird, my last like 6-8 sessions, I've dropped like 3 buyins very early in the session, usually within the first 300 hands. Then, I spend the rest of the session winning it back. This has happened this exact way in my last like two weeks of play. It starts like a nightmare session but it never ends like one. The worst I've ended is down like 1.5 buyins. But usually I end up +1 or +.5 buyin.

Over like 30k hands now I'm running at 2ptbb or so.

I know this could be random shit luck, but I'm starting to doubt it. Anyone go through a run where this happened? I don't really feel like I play too awful, maybe make a few light calls I shouldn't but overall I think I'm playing fine, and isn't tilt supposed to come near the end of a session? Really odd, I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Also, check this hand out.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/150655

I've run into this situation a few times. It's hard to put him on a boat because raising doesn't really seem necessary. I'm also usually hesitant to put him on the ten.

Any thought on this?

Anyways, Cheers and hope you all are running great.

Remebering the good times
  tilted fish, Feb 25 2007

Still recovering from that horrible downfall, but going ok. I was playing with 40+ buyins before that downfall, but with that and the small cashout im exactly at 31 buyins. anywayz here is the graph:

As for the topic title, well I was playing poker and listning to music the other night and all of a sudden i really felt like smoking a joint (Matilda Mother - Pink floyd was on)
havent done that since like 3-4 years ago...when last time i smoked it i had like a major panic attack... so I was never tempted until that moment... weird feeling really.

whatelse... its good to have vent. back on. another way to get distracted during poker sessions i guess.
btw, I entered loco and fayth channel by accident but since they were talking french i couldnt help to stay...
and yes french language does turn me on fayth.
loco sounds sexy when talking french..... ok too much
but yea sorry for the invasion of privacy i guess.

for now... peace

NL Tourny at the Casino
  iop, Feb 24 2007

So, I'm going to play the NL500+100kr Freezeout at the Casino tomorrow with two friends. Goal: Getting in the money. 80 players, top 9 get paid.

So as usual we had our "after work" yesterday, lot's of beer, wine, cider and pizza at work. Then we played a poker tournament. Buyin 100 swedish crowns (~$14). To my surprise we were actually 24 people, top 3 get paid. So at my table I was playing very aggressivly. We had 3 tables with 8 players on each table. I only knew about one player on my table, my boss who is a solid poker player. Anyways, I eliminated 5-6 players by myself on my table. So things were looking pretty good. Key hands from the first table; A10c on the button. My boss sitting under the gun raises to 500 (blids 25/50). One caller, I reraise them allin. Both of them call, my boss shows AJoff and the other one shows KQoff. My lovely 10 comes on the turn. I had taken out 4 people prior to that hand, so I had a good amount of chips now.

Down to two tables now, since I had such a chip advantage, and I wanted to come itm so I tightened up my game (doesn't work with beer). Stole acouple of blinds, then I tried a bluff where this danish poker pro whom instead doubled up. He is a $15/30 $25/50 player if I remember correctly. So we are down to 3 people, and I got about 35% the danish guy had 50% and the third guy had about 15% of the chips. I let the third guy double up on me, so I'm very shortstacked, but I find AQoff in the very next hand and go allin. Both of them call and check it out with 22 and KQ. I find my Ace on the river and I'm doing ok again. So the danish guy takes out this other guy and he has a 3v1 chip advantage. We steal a couple of blinds, but he finds 66 and I find A2s, no ace came but I still won 800 swedish crowns.

Some people were playing cash games, by this time I was fairly drunk but I thought what the hell. So they were playing 1/2 blinds with a min buyin of 300kr (roughly $50 and the blinds are ~0.10/0,25). First couple of hands I couldn't find anything, so I basicly folded. Until I found KK under the gun, I reraised up to 12. 2 callers. Flop came 2-8-8 rainbow, I check he bets I call. Turn came a K, I check again. He goes allin with about blinking ' insta call! I probably doubled my money, another hand that I found was AJoff where I raised and 2 people went allin with 60kr, I call. One person had KK, the other had 910h. flop came 10-8-6. a 9 came on the turn, and ofcourse a 7 came on the river giving me a staight. We were only 3 people playing, and on them wasn't that good. But once again I had to sit down with my boss. The final and biggest pot of the evening. my boss had been making these crazy raises, like in a 20-30 crown put, he would make a bet of 200. Since it was dark and I am colorblind I had trouble with the colors of the chips, but my boss had trouble too and accidently raised up to 55 instead of 15. I call with K4s (it felt right at the time). Flop came 5-3s-5. I bet out 300kr, just like he had done. So he started discussing with this guy from pokermagazine what hand I could have. They probably went over the hand for about 10 minutes, putting me on a AK, AQ. I knew he had 3, so I started to trashtalk a bit, in hope that he would fold. He pushed, and I was committed so I called. Turn 2 of spades, river 8 of spades - giving me a runner runner flush so a little over 1000kr in that pot to me
I left the office with 1700kr (~$240) in my pocket - after buying in for ~$14. I met up with my roommate and some of his friends, grabbed a couple of beers and went out. I spent about 700kr on taxis and various shit, so I have 1000 left.

I played 30 min of poker on the internet prior to the poker tournament and won a sh sng $10+1 (my speciality) and I 2 tabled NL10 and made about $50.

Oh, and if some still has someone "diets" or a weekly food schedule for eating healthy I would be very thankful

Feb. poker
  luminous, Feb 23 2007

So getting back into poker this month with a new mindset and ready to do as well as I can. In the past tilt, and going crazy and doing stupid monkey shit throwing shit and shit caused me to go bust and shit so what the shit... anyway I had set up 2 goals for myself for Feb

1. make the final table of an mtt with over 500 people
2. be rolled for nl50 with more then 20BI

I reached both my goals and Im very happy.
For the first goal I played an $11 mtt that had about 900 people in it and I not only FT but I made top 3 and took over $800 for my efforts. big thanks to murray, cosmo, ggplz, bigballs.

My second goal somehow I managed it with the help of the mtt win and a little bit of nl25 and sngs.

There is still 5 days left in the month, but I wont be playing much only a few mtts and stuff so Ill call it a month for now.

Here are my PT stats for Feb.
I had about 20k hands of nl25 and like 100 more $6.50 sngs that did not get recorder because my PT got reinstalled or some thing I dunno w/e..

For March I hope poker goes well for me I have added new goals poker related and non poker related.

1. Have more then 20BI for NL100
2. FT a mtt with more then 500 field
3. play 25k hands at NL50
4. play 250 $6.50 sngs
5. play 250 $15 sngs
6. get a new fish
7. gain some respect and change my overall lp image
( be myself more I guess )
8. become an lp.net admin
(jk lol)
9. find new RL friends
10. finish the school semester with decent grades

Also every blog will have a youtube or a cool image..

I think vvvq and timdawg will enjoy this one watch the entire video!

$1 dollar if you dont laugh

DONKEYTEST
  nolan, Feb 22 2007

So I took the www.donkeytest.com poker test.

Some pretty interesting questions. It gives you a general score than breaks it down into 13 different sections.

My general score was 123, which I was pretty happy with.

Also interesting was that I scored 91% on small-mid pair play and like 98% on computational speed? Both of these were in the 99th percentile of like everyone who'd taken it.

In other news I score 38% on the tournament skills part. Weeeeeeee.

Not much poker lately, been incredibly sick .
Anyone in college who lives with 10 or more people, try being sick on the weekend, its a blast.

Poker leagues
  iop, Feb 22 2007

So as I wrote in my previous post I will be competing in a live poker league in Sweden, called "lagpoker ligan". So that's going to be alot of fun, I'm really looking foward to that. I will also compete in a online league: Martins Poker Online League. Martin De Knijff and Patrik Antonius each have their own team in this league. I will be playing with some very good poker players, so I should learn alot. That's another thing I'm looking foward to!

Pokerwise, I didn't play that much yesterday but I'm up a couple of buyin's. I will transfer around $300 on to some poker site in a couple of days. I really like Fulltilt, but I kind of fucked the rakeback up, so I don't get any. I wrote an email to their support asking if I can close down my account and re-open it, ofcourse their answer was no.

Uhm, I really want to have a full blown poker weekend, but I don't think that it will be the case. Since I might travel home to see my mom and my stepdad since they are in Sweden. Both of them live in Chicago so I don't see them that much. My dad lives in Germany so I don't see him that much either. I might be moving to Chicago next fall to start studying, I really haven't decided what I am going to do. I've been thinking about opening an accound either on UB or on Mansion, any suggestions? I want to play on a site that has NL25 + rakeback.

Oh, has anyone ever been on a diet? If you could help me out on eating healtier since I want to loose a couple of kilos. I'll post two pictures of myself so you can see the difference, it's only a couple of kilo's but I want to follow a weekly routine with my eating habits. Just want to point out that I hardly ever eat junkfood. Just want some pointers! As you can see my face is a bit rounder I know some of you will point out that I should exercise, I do walk everyday and when the snow has disappeared I will start running.

Taking a Break
  tae-g, Feb 21 2007

I'm becoming impatient when I play and I'm going to take a preemptive break before I become a stupid tiltmonkey.

Oh a happier note I got my free pokertracker from clearing a bonus at FTP.

Another update
  iop, Feb 21 2007

So, as I posted in my last entry I was going to play a poker tournament yesterday to get a place on the team. We were 14 players, and top 5 got on the team. The tables were split into 2 tables with 7 players on each table. We started with around 1500 in chips, 10-20 starting blinds. I played very aggressivly to start off. I found K-10h on the button and raised 3xBB. BB called. Flop came A-8-7 rainbow. I checked-raised the flop hoping to take it down. After a while he decided to call - Q came on the turn, where I made a potsized bet and started to trashtalk a bit, putting him on an ace with a low kicker. After about 5 minutes he folded his hand and I showed my K-10. This to make sure that I had a loose image at the table, so I could get alot of callers whilst the blinds were going up. Next key hand was 3-6 off whilst sitting in the small blind. I called, and the BB checked. Flop came 5-6-6, where I checked. He made about a 3/4 pot bet. After a minute or two I decided to call. Turn came an 8, where I checked again. He made about a potsized bet and know I was pretty sure he was sitting with a 5. So I called again. River came J. I made a potsized bet which he only called and showed his 5. I took out another player before getting to the final table with 99, so I was about second in chips. I didn't get any big hands on the final table so I basicly folded, I tried limping in with 55 twice only to miss my sets both times. Top 5 were to make the team so I had no problems making it.

I had also posted in my first blog that I had put some money onto fulltilt, and I basicly haven't had time to play (except for playing drunk and loosing 3/4 of my roll). So before playing the tournament I played about an hour 4 tabling NL10 which well, + $50.

I used to play NL50+NL100 on martinspoker but I lost my roll, so I want to be very diligent about BR management in the future. Before I was 3 tabling NL25 with a $200 which went well, until alcohol reached my stomach and I lost 3/4 of my roll. So I will put about $250 on to my account and try to grind my way up to NL50 and NL100 again - Not playing drunk, and not playing on higher limits.

My Anti Bad beat videos
  Daut, Feb 20 2007

I have pretty awesome tilt control. But it isnt all me. Whenever I get bad beat I throw up the following 2 videos.

The first one is the mangalore (from 5th element) version of Tony G yelling at ralph perry.

The bruce willis head on sammy farha kills me everytime, along with pretty much everything else in the video. Tony G better hope they dont see how he negotiates though.

The second video is a trailer for Saw 4. Pretty quick turn around by Jigsaw to be spitting out another movie so fast. Here you can see him at his finest:

If this trailer is any indication of the 4th movie, I'll be willing to wait outside the theater for a long time before to secure myself a ticket to opening night.

ANALYZE AND INTERPRET
  nolan, Feb 20 2007

Hey all. Ran pretty much break even over the last 25k hands at 100nl six max. (2ptbb/100 ) It's really getting frustrating. I'm having a tough time analyzing my play and finding any real leaks other than a few possible things preflop, although I'm really not sure whether or not this is also due to variance.

One of the greater challenges I think a serious poker player faces is not being results oriented but at the same time being responsible for their results.

Here's a graph of my most recent 2.5k hand session

The funny thing about it is over those 2.5k hands I didn't lose more than 60bb in a pot, barring one hand where I had AK lose to JJ AIPF... Won a few interesting ones though. Check out the hands from Feb 19-20 here: http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/id/1/user/20955

Some kinda interesting stuff, and a pretty questionable play with AK against a shorter stack. I decided he had to have a FD since he limp called and the second five came on the turn. Come to think of it, over-analyzing situations when I'm running poorly is definitely one of my leaks, but I've been doing a good job plugging it lately.

In other news, I've started polyphasic sleeping at the advice of Corwin the great. Not really, but I've been sort of doing it unintentionally.

Also, I'm thinking about buying a 30" and 20" monitor for my new setup (I'm building a new cpu). Anyone out there have any input or advice on any other monitor-related ideas. I'm nervous 30" will be "too big" or that maybe there's just better options out there. Any feedback appreciated.

LATA.

Is Poker Pissing On You?
  JonnyCosMo, Feb 19 2007

I've always used this metaphor to help describe what kind of personalities play poker. Different people handle bad situations differently. And lets face it, there are a lot of bad situations in poker. So the question of the day is:

What do you do when poker starts pissing on you?

Imagine the following: You are standing in some random spot. At the same time, there is a man who is on top of a ladder, pants around his ankles and using what the good lord gave him to release the golden shower on top of your head. Yes he is pissing on you. So what is your course of action?

The Bankroll Nit - He doesn't like getting pissed on for the obvious reasons. But he lacks the balls to do anything about it. In response to getting pissed on, he simply moves out of the way. The poker equivalent to this would be someone who plays it safe, if they can't beat a game they move down and grind until they feel it's safe to move back up and tackle the higher stakes. This guy often uses the 100 buy-in rule to justify taking a shot. At the same time, is willing to accept help but doesn't necessarily need it.

The Safe Grinder - He doesn't like getting pissed on either. But he has a little more balls than the regular bankroll nit. In response to getting pissed on, he kicks down the ladder and runs away. The poker equivalent would be someone who plays it safe most of the time, moving down when he needs to, but does everything in his power to move up within his "safe" limits. He often uses a safe 30-40 buy-in rule to justify taking shots. At the same time, he is willing to accept help but doesn't necessarily need it.

The Stubborn Grinder - He doesn't mind getting pissed on. He can take it! In fact, he's probably very use to it. In response to the situation, he grabs an umbrella and stays in the same location. The poker equivalent would be someone who refuses to move down in stakes even when they are losing. They just don't lower themselves to "running away" from the problem and face the problem head on. Often times they don’t use any bankroll management at all. At the same time, they accept help from anyone who can give it to them. Most of the time they need a lot of help. But eventually they will learn to deal with the problem from their experience.

The Stubborn Degenerate - He doesn't mind getting pissed on. And from the looks of it, he seems to enjoy it. In response to the situation, he willingly stays in the same spot and continues to get pissed on. The stubborn degenerate always seems to think that if he stays in the same spot long enough that maybe the guy will stop pissing on him. The poker equivalent would be someone who has too big of en ego to ever move down. Nor do they accept help from anyone else. They think they play perfect poker and there is nothing to learn from anyone. When poker starts pissing on the stubborn degenerate, he blames it on variance and hopes that his luck will break even. Sadly he never learns and often goes busto because of it.

The Degenerate Gambler - He likes getting pissed on, and everyone knows this is a fact. In response to the situation, he firmly plants his ass in the same spot and finds enjoyment in getting pissed on. The poker equivalent would be someone who knows they suck, but just plays to have a good time. And a good time they have as they blow through their bankrolls and redeposit several times. They never want to take the time to learn anything from anyone, and therefore they find this habit a repeating cycle.

The Winning Grinder – He doesn’t like getting pissed on. And he has the balls and the smarts to do something about it. In response to the situation, he kicks down the ladder, then gets into a fight with the guy pissing on him. There is no guarantee that he wins the fight, and sometime the guy that was pissing on him kicks the Winning Grinder’s ass and gets back on top of the ladder and continues to piss on him. But one thing is clear: the Winning Grinder does not take shit and does something about it. The poker equivalent would be someone who learns from his experience, and has the balls to do something about it. He uses the 20 buy-in rule, but rarely finds the need to move down since he learns quick and figures out how to beat games. He accepts help from people around him but rarely needs it.

The Big Winner – He doesn’t like getting pissed on. What he does like is pissing on other people. In response to the situation, he climbs up the ladder, pushes down the guy on top of it, and then starts pissing on him. The Big Winner always finds ways to turn problems around and benefit from them. He picks his fights well, and doesn’t get into conflict unless he needs to. The poker equivalent would be your typical SBRugby or GreenPlastic. They are smart about the game, they use safe bankroll management skills, and pick their spots very well. They will run away from a problem if it is profitable for them, they will tackle a problem head on if it seems profitable for them. They see the bigger picture and figure out how to be the biggest winner.

So what type of player are you? And please be as honest as possible.

I am The Bankroll Nit. I'll admit it.
