Well thanks to some posts around the site, I've realized that the only way I'm ever going to get better at poker is by forcing myself to play. I think it was Ket who said in a thread that people just play expecting to get better over time sporadically, and it just doesn't happen that way.

So I'm trying to play alot, just 4 tabling on my small NL5 bankroll of 160 bucks.

I played a session today where I ran way under EV which is kind of annoying, but I'm definitely not tilted by it. It would have been nice to make 30-35 bucks for almost 4 hours of grinding instead of 95 cents.. but I guess I should be glad I'm even. I also felt like I played well, so it's hard to be tilted. Even the big downswing in the EV graph around hand 1100 was a guy check calling a set against my flopped straight and rivering a full house on the end. I guess there's alot of arguments for just calling this river on this hand, so maybe I played it bad. I just felt like he could be check calling a Q the whole way and didn't want to lose river value so he donked.. and yeah I shoved and value cut myself big time. Villain was kind of stationy so I felt like just calling on the end was losing value in the long run. Who knows :/.

Hand in question:
+ Show Spoiler +

Anyways, here's graphs for my session today.

And the last couple of days...

Anyways, I'm hoping that if I keep putting in 2-3 hour sessions of 4 tabling everyday and really focusing that I can move up quickly. We'll see what happens, hopefully I run a little smoother next session. . I think I can reach NL50 before I start running into trouble with my game.

Leak?
  vasoline73, Oct 18 2009

Dude! Wtffffff. This is my graph for heads up play in an unraised pot holy god. 6 max NL5 and NL10.

What the fuck. Am I just folding way too much?

For comparision, this is 2 players to the flop but with a raise.

Do I just suck serious ass at unraised pots? How are you guys playing unraised pots O_O. Fml. Can anyone in micros/low stakes post their graph of 2 players to the flop/no raise?

Advice? lol. -_-. Glad I found this

Are most people gambolin' it up? Or are most people letting this one go?
Only 17 hands on him.. so no real reads other than why the fuck is he overbet shoving two times in a row!?!?

How do you react to his dumb/monkey plays?

Even.+ Monthly results
  vasoline73, Sep 28 2009

Well, in the longrun I'm finally back to even .

Around hand 16500 (a little before my last blog), I tilted off a huge amount of my roll in one day taking a frustrated NL5 shot, and then it was downhill from there. Around hand 26000 I really decided that I would need to improve or quit, and even though I wasn't doing well at first, I think I've finally fixed some big leaks and am now a sure 100% winner at NL2 (lol... ) and *probably* a pretty good NL5 player.

While I know that playing out of your BR is generally unadvised, I felt a little inspired by reading Ace on The River by Barry Greenstein to take an occasional shot at NL25 games.. I only played one table, focused and probably played only about 500 hands overall, but I did it both for learning experience and because it was a good game with one or two fishy players. NL25 players don't seem too much different than NL5 players, so I feel like the only thing holding me back is my bankroll. While it's not the safest BR managament, I think that it's ok to take the occasional shot at a limit above you if you are a favorite in the game and play smart.

My BR is now 125$.. which obviously isn't alot, but it was only 40 bucks earlier this month, so I've done a good job playing through and building up. With the Take2 bonus at the end of the month my roll will be at 175.. which will be getting close to a solid NL10 roll.

Gamewise, I feel like I've improved alot also, and that's always good right?

My lifetime EV graph makes me cry though

Anyways, this is my month...

Hopefully I can put in more volume and increase my win rate further.. really, there's some breakeven in the middle of that graph that I think I can do better than in the upcoming month.

Wish me luck. Really, without LP and the help I get from comments and learning from threads, I would be nowhere in poker. Not that I'm anywhere now, but you guys get the point . I feel like I'm really starting to get better.

lolllll
  vasoline73, Sep 17 2009

I really suck at this game but...

YEAHHH BOIIIIIII
Evennnnnnnnn. lol.

Overall.. I've been playing really bad though. Really really not focusing, so I'm going to take a little break and come back with my mind ready to play. Maybe play some SC which I haven't done in forever. I know to many people it's laughable that I'm at NL2.. but I'll get there eventually . Really, my post flop play has been pretty bad and I'm just not able to focus. I need to find a quiet place to play as my house is always noisy and I'm using a computer in the living room.

Anyways, recently I wrote something about poker and how I felt about it in my class. Maybe I'll write it up and post it in my blog eventually, but it's kind of embarrassing since I only play NL2 . We'll see.

Recent hands/stats...

Whine post.. you've been warned

Man seriously what the eff. Poker is pissing me off. I know I'm probably bad, but I'm not THAT bad. Why am I getting destroyed at NL2?! I'm playing ABC, in position.. fuckkk. I'm just frustrated. Maybe it's time to quit -_-.

On the bright side, my hand volume is low? There's still hope?
On the gay side, I'm running like 25 buy ins below EV now

Realizing I've been a spewtard
  vasoline73, Aug 20 2009

Well guys, after my last blog, I've pretty much completely fucked myself over. I'm back at NL2 after playing bad and imo, running worse. Mostly playing bad.

Really though, I think it's important that this happened. I would also wanna thank Fudyann for something that helped alot. I was sweating him and made a comment about a AJo hand he played where the board sort of bricked maybe 7 high, and the limper donk bet into him about 3/4 pot and he folded. I said something like "tough spot" and he was like "wtf no, not a tough spot. we dont even beat AK there" or something to that effect. Anyways, it wasn't profound or anything, it just made me sort of realize I've been effing around too much and definitely incorporating wayyyyyyyyyy too much fancy play syndrome into my play. I need to stop floating and trying to push people off pots just because they limped.. or some dumb reason like that.

I'm embarrassed to still be at NL2 after all this time, but I'm glad that people are commenting on my HH and for advice/encouragement on the site. I really think I'm this close to wrapping up my "major" leaks and will hopefully be a NL10 player soon. I don't think I'm THAT bad and it's just frustrating. It's doubly embarrassing when I see players like Lemon who moved up so quickly in the time I've pretty much been doing nothing.

Anyways, I played 1389 hands today 4 tabling and ended up losing 1.22... which imo is much better than me 80$ in the same amount of hands because I spewed horribly and ran bad. Currently about 6-7 buyins below my all in EV, but I know that luck < skill in poker and that today I played well. When I got it in I was way ahead and you can see some of those hands in my HH.

Overall I am hopeful and determined to move back up although at the same time, scared that maybe it'll never be. Guess I'll have to grind a bit more and see.

Today... graphs and stats

Overall stuff

Really I think I was just playing an aggressive style and hitting cards + getting paid off.. and when cards started not hitting I kept pushing it. Clearly I need to cool it a bit.

Anyways, I hope whoever is reading this is rooting for me to be a better player through LP.

In general what do you guys think? Time to quit? Still have a chance? Did successful players ever take this long to move up? T.T... hand quantity wise I know it's not alot.. but the amount of time I spent playing these hands was pretty long since I kept taking on and off breaks from poker. I dont know. Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed the blog. Like I said, I feel like I'm this close to figuring it out. And thank god for rakeback + FTP's 100 dollar bonus thing.. otherwise my BR would be looking pretty thin (hint: it is!)

My summer
  vasoline73, Aug 15 2009

Yeahhhhh. Since my last blog I've pretty much started over on FTP. I started at AP originally.. didn't really do well, lost interest in my roll. Got a rakeback account on FTP and transferred 50 bucks there... played alot until I had finals and stuff and had to study... and basically only ended up playing 15000 hands my whole summer .

Howevvvvvvver I'm happy to say I am finally out of NL2 short of crashing and burning like I did around hand 5800... lol :/. I feel like I've gotten a better understanding of the game and am trying to play in position better than I used to.

Also today thanks to LP I took advantage of the PT3 micro stakes edition and bought myself a copy. Today it pretty much paid for itself with a crazy heater + helping me read villains better... but after playing so for so long without it I have to admit I feel like it is weird to go back (I used to have a cracked torrented version when I played AP and when I first started on FTP because I'm bad like that ) and I feel like I was enjoying playing without the stats. That being said, I know in general this is going to help me alot more.

One thing PT3 DOES do for me that I don't really know how to feel about is that it makes my red line shoot up. When I see player's "call flop bet" stats.. I pretty much abuse them as much as possible. On one hand, obviously its a good thing because my red line goes up, on the other hand I think I get myself into marginal situations on turn and river if I feel like I have an ok hand, thus I get out of line. So that's something else I need to work on.

I do feel good about that big jump in my graph though... the only reason it didn't keep going up was because I lost AA v KK for a pretty big size of my stack at a table and villain continued to run well against me and I didn't really know how to handle his aggressiveness. Should have probably just left the table

Anywaaaays, thanks everyone who has been commenting on my hand histories in the side bar, it helps alot to get your opinions. Please keep giving me criticism/advice. That's all for now.

Playing better
  vasoline73, Apr 19 2009

So, inspired somewhat by LemOn[5thF] and his insane amount of hands played, I decided to grind out about 2000 hands tonight... played probably about 4-5 hours... 4-6 tables 6 max.

Recently I've been trying very hard to find my inner fold button. I was making all my money without showdown, but whenever it came down to showdown, I was getting raped. Sometimes it was badbeats, but alot of the time, I was just getting it in bad because I was playing over aggressive.

Anyways, this is where I'm at right now. Trying to keep learning and figuring out the game.
