FirsT: Shout out to this thread + Show Spoiler +

he's worked so hard and he's just trying to live the dream

fuck lady gaga thread but check out ethics thread

anyway just wanted to ask a few questions about a few hands

Hand 1 + Show Spoiler +

a) due to chip stacks it's about a pot shove. this is ok vs short stack no?
b) if he was regular chip stack wat do we 3 bet in order to make draws pay? bet > 22 no? i think flatting flop and then leading turn is kinda dumb =.= but obviously i want to keep in plenty of dominated hands. i think rr to ~ 22+ is correct no?

Hand 2 + Show Spoiler +

a) like? dislike? i think 90% of the time neither of us have a very strong hand since we check the flop. i think c/c turn makes it "obvious" i have a draw, and c/r river is saying nuts. villain can bet turn with plenty of hands draws included, and therefore i don't really like my c/rai shove here.

Hand 3 + Show Spoiler +

a) really hate my bet sizing. pot flop/turn and even bet rivER? or is river bet too thin? lots of straight and flush draws and i'm not too sure how often villains call with KT K9 K8 in a multiway pot (and if they have Ks for the tp+draw we're prolly all in on turn)
b) if i get c/r on flop this is easy fold? i can't really see ppl having sets in this spot but combo draws and KJ aren't pretty hands to see all in. getting it on good turn is + ev and getting it in on flop is ~0 ev?

Hand 4 + Show Spoiler +

a) standard? am i lucky to be ahead? my reasoning was i have 2 overcards/gutshot against most pairs. his c/r all in seemed like it was pretty draws/nuts. i guess how often does he do this with bluff and how often does villain do this with trip j's?

Hand 5 + Show Spoiler +

a REAL FUUUUUUUUUUUUU moment. villain is super passive, and saw him not v-bet top 2 pair in a previous pot. THAT being said i still have a SUPER hard time believing he doesn't raise TT pf. i dunno he could be that passive and scared of getting out played with medium pp. i guess 33/22 makes more sense but i'm still having a shit ton of trouble believing he has those hands. A2, T2, 32 something retarded seems believable i guess. him not vbetting top 2 pair previous hand really fucked with my mind.

didn't want to raise flop because i didn't want to get blown off a hand with such great equity. i pretty much wanted to hit on turn and get it in against retardedly played set. i think when i raise turn everyone's hand gets turned face up. sets get it in, most garbage probably folds, draws call(not really many draws on this board either). so i don't think betting bigger on turn really helps because i expect most hands to get it in/fold (how correct is this statemenT?)

Hand 6 + Show Spoiler +

easy ship especially after i played it like a fagget? i actually don't believe he ever has AK(ships it pre) or even does this on this board with AK(prob goes for a more traditional raise.

nfl football~~
  jasper5408, Sep 15 2009

i'm a sports fan. i'm grateful that i can now watch football. because i was really getting tired of baseball.

btw how popular is american football outside of us? (specifically ca + europe)

anyway some comments:
1) weird 1st monday night football where both teams that should have won both lost =.= i feel sorry for the bills and the raiders.

2) when brady got the ball back with 2 min that was kinda fun to watch. i mean as soon as the pats got the turnover i pretty much just said "brady time gg." its really an amazing thing to watch. he's such a clutch performer.

3) i always thought t.o was a big douche but after watching the t.o show and seeing some more of his personality he doesn't seem to be as big of an asshole as the media made him out to be.

4) football seems a lot more even this year. i think lots of teams can reach the superbowl so i am excited for this season.

5) i'm a greenbay packers fan (as well as a brett favre fan although he's being quite an ass). i think the packers can do extremely well this year and i hope the best for mr. rogers.

5) favre looked good and i'm happy for percy harvin as well ( i go to uf). peterson can single handedly win games by himself. the vikings should be a potentially fun team to watch.

6) can't help but root for sanchez because of his sick stellar performance. such a joke that stafford gets the bigger contract. i hope sanchez can keep on performing at a high level. also i always like jay cutler's cockiness but he blew it up the asshole last night. please be stellar again.

7) the clear tier 1 teams i think are the packers/giants/pats/chargers/steelers and i think the tier 2 teams can very easily bump into the superbowl as well vikings/eagles/colts/ravens/saints

8) i think the cardinals/cowboys/titans have like no chance despite doing rather well last year.

and just a fun fact a friend texted me:
The following coaches are now out of the NFL: Tony Dungy, Mike Shanahan, Bill Cowher, Mike Holmgren and Marty Schottenheimer. Combined record: 4,512-175 (approximate). Meanwhile, the following coaches are still in the NFL: Dick Jauron, Brad Childress, Tom Cable, Wade Phillips. Combined record: 109-978 (approximate)

The best thing about football???

basketball season is right right around the corner^^

p.s congratulations to del porto i saw you win against nadal and roddick in the us. open series smashing the ball flat fantastically. it's great to see a different type of player competing in tennis.

can't post in forums because of some new feature?
  jasper5408, Sep 14 2009

ct_equal?????

anyway was wondering about a line check

limp/caller, min bet is an adjustment to me isolating him a lot.

i normally iso to 2 dollars but he's been folding so i opted for 1.65

on flop pretty sure i have the best hand a lot of the time. but against particular opponent i strongly feel as though frustration will take over and he will try and bluff
(1. bet this near 100% against regular villain no?)

his turn stab to me really looks like a lower pp trying to bluff so i opt to call (hoping for a river bluff as well).

river stab i call pretty confidently as nothing on the board has changed.

2. am i trying to hard to look for bluffs that aren't there?

multiple questions ~~
  jasper5408, Aug 26 2009

1. is there a way to check how much rake you will receive by the end of the month? I did the 50+50 promo on ftp, and pmed meat and he set it up saying i should receive it around mid-september, but i don't recall him specifying a way to check how much rake has been accumulated.

2. i happened to stumble on a ventrillo how to, and was wondering if people still help there on the vent server?

3. wondering if anyone playing 1/2 + would be willing to go over a few hands with me via phone/aim/vent

4. if anyone can get the hem discount and resell to me >.<

5. how to counter zvt terran mech QQ

just trying to beat the end of august massive results blog posts that are sure to ensue~~~

ok some tips...
  jasper5408, Aug 03 2009

so i only played about 20 hours last month mainly due to exams and studying for finals, but this month i plan to put in a lot more hours.

i went through a little crisis because i thought i was thinking well and playing well, but it didn't seem very high level of thinking. anyway after really re accessing my game, i feel like i do in fact play well, and that i shouldn't have been so quick to doubt my play. that being said i'm sure i have plenty of leaks and that i should look to increase my winrate.

i have 500 on stars and now 500 on ftp. most of my time went to ftp, as i had to build up my bankroll there from about 250. therefore my goals for this month...

just 1K rolls on both sites, i think this should be an ok task, and i do feel confident in my ability to reach these goals. these are pretty much my only goals. i prob won't check back at these forums (which i <3) until my goal is accomplished.

a friend asked me to help him out on poker, as he took up the game so i decided to just copy/paste the advice that i game him.

1) don't bluff
2) seriously, why are you bluffing? when your 2 main opponents are either nits who play AA KK and calling stations who call with any piece of the board why are you bluffing? keeping your triple-barrel bluffing frequency low is probably an easy fix to easily one of the biggest spews/leaks in your game.
3) by the same logic, bet pot or close to pot for value. there is no need to ever ever ever make some high level multi street slow play at these stakes (unless you flop the nuts and crush the deck). For a while the only thing TT posted was "bet flop, bet bigger on turn, and shove river." when calling stations are calling try and bet 3 streets for value. checking the flop is retarded, they probably love to call with draws on the flop, and they only like to call draws on the turn.
4) you don't need a fancy program at these limits. if you can not tell who is a calling station and who is a nit within 2 orbits, you probably should play fewer tables.
5) try and stay within your limits as your bankroll is extremely vulnerable to swings. when you start out with 50 measly dollars, i think decent players will be able to play .02/.05 easy even though that's only 10 buy ins. in my opinion, playing tournaments is the fastest way to grow your bank roll, but only if you are a competent player (which you probably are not yet). Which leaves you .01/.02 where you will painfully grind out a miserable hourly rate.
6) poker will suck, try and shoot for a daily profit of 5 dollars with a 2 hour cap. if it takes you 15 minutes, just go ahead and call it a day. if it takes you 2 hours likewise call it a day. aftter 2 hours of playing in general, your game will start to delcine. so just get up and go. also in general, if you get sucked out you should probably just call it a day :/
7) if you play one month this way you will have 200 dollars. you can now move to .05/.1 and double your win-rate. try and have around 20 buy ins for the stakes you are playing. at 30 buy ins i think taking a shot at a higher limit is almost mandatory at these limits. if you lose a buy in, then just go bak and play your normal limits and wait for 30 buy ins and proceed to take another shot.
8) Try and always think and see the grand scheme of things, instead of memorizing stupid ass/complicated lines. Memorizing lines is analogous to memorizing a build order from a sc replay past the 10 minute mark. obviously the bo is a good starting point, but there is going to be diverging strategies to counter/adapt the opponent. likewise use different lines that you think will be most unsettling to your opponent.
9) be careful what advice you read. lots of advice is probably way above you, and although it is a good thing to always seek and process new information, some concepts are quite frankly way above you. concepts such as "meta game" and "balancing ranges" should not even be considered (imo) until you reach 2/4.
10) i believe ftp emailed me a bit of phil ivey's advice (who is probably the only ftp pro worth listening too, especially after they started a retarded ftp academy) which plainly states, "When it comes to advice about poker, my attitude is very simple: seek it out, absorb it, but while you're at the table, forget it." which you can read more at http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/pro-tip/PhilIvey/125

and finally read these

http://www.liquidpoker.net/pokerarticles/
where it says "beginners,"
NOT the "experienced" and definitely NOT the articles with the words "advanced fundamentals," "blocking bet," "min-raise"

and then even more finally google "phil galfond articles" and reread those every time you successfuly move up a limit.

just reminiscing
  jasper5408, Jul 27 2009

so i was looking through some pics and i found a somewhat odd random one

he's brian scalabrine...

this mfer should have a lifetime contract with the celtics and should not only be paid as a player, but also paid as the celtics organization's official mascot.

i remember during this last year's play offs, me and my friends had lots of fun taking shots for every scalabrine 3.

i was rolled up for nl 50, but then transferred some monies to ftp with semper. he was nice enough to offer a 2.5% bonus and i thought having a bigger roll on ftp would motivate me to play on ftp a bit more. anyway he ended up winning the 11 rebuy so grats to him. i shoulda watched him play i guess, but decided to nap. he seemed like a nice guy.

anyway, had like 11 days worth of winning sessions and was rudely reminded that i can in fact have losing sessions. some coolers set off some tilt but hey it's all part of the mfing ride. starting to really gain some confidence in my play, think i'm gonna set some monthly goals to keep me motivated.

so wtf is the point of pot limit hold em? to prevent retards from pushing 100 bb pf?
