hmm part of asia where i live still thinks it's gay to call some other dude cute. personally i would only say someone is good looking if he's brad pitt or some ridiculously famous guy . i feel majority of filipinos feel the same way about it too. i woulndt call flips "asians" though, we take more from the malay race more than oriental.
if you're gay its different & perhaps you like cute looking guys (how you dress is also important for this imo) but then theres no issue calling a guy cute.. so i'm assuming you're talking about two heterosexual males in which case cute isn't usually something they're going for

also women tend to cross gender lines(kiss for a laugh or a dare) when drunk and be perfectly fine with themselves. hetero males can't do this without really feeling like he's crossed the line and might be a bit gay inside lol

When I came to U.S and went to YMCA or something, people were taking showers with their swimming shorts on in the lockers... wtf?

Nothin wrong with using the word handsome. Tough I think it's even weird for a guy to reference any female as cute unless she's a baby. Very annoying when girls use overuse the word "cute".
