Not Imperial Palace that's for sure. Place sucks.

Any expensive hotel is worth it. Just make sure you're on the strip of course.

Go to MGM for a balling as buffet.

Go to Cezars palace for the huge ass poker room, and a swimming pool area that has a club vibe and women walking around with no tops on.

Its gonna be Jan so not a lot of pool action. You should be able to get Wynn for like $150 a night if you book through hotwire. It's worth every penny. If not there then Venetian is slightly cheaper or try one of the many MGM casinos you can probably get those for $100/night

rooms at bellagio really suck for the price, don't go there unless you're getting a great deal compared to wynn, encore, venetian, or palazzo. rooms at all of those are much better. i wouldn't recommend staying anywhere else but if you are on a lower budget, treasure island is much cheaper, the rooms are fine, and the location is great. paris, flamingo, mirage, and caesar's palace might also have cheaper rooms in a great location.

for poker: venetian, bellagio, and wynn have the most action, but also tons of regs, particularly in an off-season like january. games are still very good since the regs are legitimately terrible (not like online regs who are clearly competent even at $0.5/1 or so)

for nightclubs: tao is impressively designed, has great music, and has a big and fun crowd, but it's SO crowded that it's not worth going to imo unless you go on a slow night or you get bottle service, which obviously is expensive. tryst at wynn is amazing and i recommend it for everyone. Bank at bellagio is solid but don't show up until at least 11:30 because it's slow-going early in the night. XS at encore is incredible and i also highly recommend it. drai's for after-hours kinda sucks but the crowd is fun so it's worth going to if you are determined to party until 10am.

for daytime fun: rehab at hard rock is the nuts. i've heard nothing but bad things about Tao Beach so i've never gone. i'm also pretty sure the palms has a sick pool party too

for strip clubs: rhino has the most business and biggest selection of girls, but also the greediest and most business-oriented girls. sapphire is very good if you're willing to drop a ton of money on the night, but make sure you hunt around for a girl who is prepared to be on her worst behavior in the skyboxes because sapphire girls in my experience are either total prudes or total animals. before you take a girl upstairs at sapphire, try hard to be completely out of line with your interaction with her body, and if she responds poorly, then move on to the next one. on a busy night like saturday or something, treasures is probably good as well, and any of the other large clubs like rick's, penthouse, etc. will be good too, and the girls there won't be nearly so greedy or all-business

oh yeah true pools won't be so good in january. oh well

for fancy food: bouchon at venetian, daniel boulud's restaurant at wynn, circo at bellagio, carnevino at palazzo, table 10 at palazzo, delmonico's at venetian, spago in the forum shops at caesar's palace, alan albert's steakhouse on the strip, and soooooo many more but all of those are awesome and nice meals.

for normal food: terrace pointe cafe at wynn, grand lux cafe at either palazzo or venetian (there are two), the buffet at either wynn or bellagio (and i've heard paris has a good one too), canter's deli at treasure island, carnegie deli at mirage

for drinks without clubbing: Parasol Up or Parasol Down at wynn, caramel at bellagio

for shows: i've seen O, Mystere, and Blue Man Group and all of them were worth seeing. i've also seen Love at Mirage and if you like beatles music then it's amazing

Myth made some good posts here let me add some comments.. mostly just confirming everything he said and adding a little bit..

Drai's the after hours club is fun but be aware that it is very full of the lower-life type of people once 6.30AM and later rolls around. I got robbed here once LOL!

Paris does have a good buffet, though I'd recommend Wynn's first. Planet Hollywood's is also pretty good. There is a really really good casual eatery at PH called Planet Dailies or some shit like that. Its to the side of the casino floor. It has an enormous menu with american food/chinese/tex mex.

Don't eat at any of the 'fancy' steakhouses in the mid or lower-end hotels, even if you get a good deal. They just suck (atleast this is my exp).

MGM has some lions during the day if you want to see lions. lol

I recommend taking a walk around the Grand Shoppes @ the Venetian and Palazzo's mall as well (They are connected to eachother btw). They're really cool and you will see some shit that might surprise you (a gallery selling multiple $10k++++ sculptures and such).
