Hand is played by my roommate. Game is a $50/$100NL with a bunch of tough online regs. Villan is a pretty well known high stakes reg, but since this is the first orbit of sitting down you have no history or reads on him whatsoever other than the info given from a friend previously that he's played big online & live for a while now. The fish at the table seems like your standard loose/passive bad older gentleman. You're sitting the shortest stack at the table with $18.5k.

The lone fish at the table raises from EP to $400, you flat in the BTN w 4c4s. Villan is in SB, he flats, and BB also flat calls.

Flop: 4h5c6s (Pot: $1600)
Villan leads $1200 from the SB, the BB folds, the fish flat calls pretty quickly. You raise to $4,000. Villan tanks for 20 seconds then shoves all-in for $30k, the fish has Villan covered but folds. $14,100 left in your stack. Thoughts on flop action and decision here?

At least give us villain name if hes that well known, I think i know who the fish is, anyways seems like a fold but depends on which known HS'er villain is

:O. villain leading range should be pretty strong here shouldn't it? i dunno why we would raise-fold here.

Seems like a fold. The lead looks pretty strong here imo, I would consider just flatting bottom set.

Can't see villain doing this with 56 or worse, so..

close call with 55. 44 is a fold. also a horrible flop raise imo

Thoughts on the hand if he's the preflop raiser?

i feel if you raise you should plan on calling it all off

just flat if you're not sure what to do if villain shoves

I think villains possible bluff holding is pretty much 77 and value range is skewed towards 66, 78 and probably 55. We cant get it in here as many have stated.

Regarding his flop lead: He probably does not want the fish to cbet and get someone to raise, and the fish can get away when Villain raises again. Also will lead good hands because fish is passive and will check quite a bit.

If BTN is the preflopraiser I think his lead is even stronger. Lets say he has topset/straight. 1. He does not want the flop to get checked around, it is entirely plausible it gets checked to button who decides for freecard. 2. He does not want to checkraise buttons cbet and chase out fish if he does not have to. 3. It looks kind of weaker to lead out then going for the checkraise on such a dry-ish board - makes his range less polarized.

If he had 77 I love his play, but I dont think he has it enough to warrant a call from us. Also agree with flatting flop is best.

From the high stakes players on LP's points of view if you're villain and you have:

1) 55
2) 66
3) 56
4) 77
5) AA
6) 37
7) 78

How do you play flop?

I know he's never playing AA this way and probably folds 37 from SB, but I included them because I'm interested in how they should be played.

Probably lead all. Fold 56 to raise, continue with rest. I could consider check/call-raise flop w/ 55 here too.

Decision is the same if you are the preflop raiser?

In a sense yes, I expressed my view above.

However, if he puts us on a more "Hi-Card, High pair" nutty range preflop with a preflop raise, maybe that could influence our decisions. That is if he percieves us as going for protection with big pair here - if he thinks that yeah then we got a more difficult decision.

Whats your take Cosmo?
