PokerStars has just decided to stop offering its games to players from multiple countries, mostly from Islamic and Asian market, effective immediately. This is yet another radical change after PokerStars/FTP were acquired by Amaya Gaming.
The list of affected countries includes:
Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan, Kuwait, Senegal, Nigeria, Tanzania, United Republic of Bahrain, Afghanistan, Occupied Palestinian Territory, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Holy See (Vatican City).
The following countries are also blocked and no play money games are available: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Zimbabwe, Libya, Sudan, North Korea, Cuba, Myanmar, Yemen.
Some of the players that found early about the case managed to get a quick response from PokerStars support, which explained:
"Please note our management team regularly reviews our operations along with independent 3rd party professionals to assess the business risks and opportunities for our brands on a market-by-market basis. Following our most recent review, it was determined that we would no longer offer real money games in Turkey starting today.
We apologize for this inconvenience, and hope you’ve enjoyed your experience with PokerStars. We invite you to continue playing with your existing account, where you can play for free or purchase Play Money chips."
PokerStars representatives also assured players that their cashier balances are completely safe and they will be able to withdraw all their funds:
"Your account balance is completely safe. Our license in the Isle of Man requires us to keep player funds separate from the company’s operating funds. PokerStars has always complied with this requirement and continues to do so for all of our player deposits.
Your account will remain open and accessible, and your funds may be withdrawn at any time via the Cashier as usual."
All affected players will be also able exchange of their FPPs and milestone bonuses before cashing out.
So far no official press release was issued by Amaya Gaming.
