Story time LP
Lets hear your stories of when you popped your gamblers cherry.
Doesnt apply strictly to poker.
Ill go first.
Went out with the family for a pub lunch when i was a young lad probably about 10. There was a lone fruit-machine in the bar, its flashing lights and prospect of money had caught my attention as we entered.
We ordered our food and were waiting, conversation was flowing among the adults. I begged my mum for some money to go play on that bad boy
"No" she said "No one ever wins on those machines"
I persisted until eventually she gave in and gave me like 40p. I trotted off to the bar with my new bankroll in hand, ready to take on the world and crush the machines with my super-skilled video gamer brain. I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time.
I strolled up to the machine and triumphantly pumped in my wager. I had no idea how to play, no knowledge of features or anything and just assumed that BAR BAR BAR meant u won the jackpot along with the small payout chart displayed on the side of the machine.
I spin a couple of times (I don't think i had more than 2 spins worth of money) and i managed to win about £3.50
I hammer the cashout button and fuckin swagger back into the dining room like the Maverick i was and roll up my mum to show her how I was the sickest gambler ever, and how wrong she was.
I returned to the machine, ready to put in my £3 bankroll and win infinite riches, when the bar girl told me I wasn't allowed to play because i wasn't 18. This seemed like a great injustice, I was forced to return to the dining room, but could hardly enjoy my meal knowing Id just been cheated out of a fruit-machine hyper-payout because i was 8 years underage.

Put 300$ on red, lost. Then another 300$ on redlost. Fuck this shit one more time 300 on red won. Loaned a roulette player 500$, he end up stealing another 1500 from me while I'm black out drunk and never paying back 500$ loan either. |

lol @ gambling on pogs
in year 7 (aged 12) our maths class learnt mini-bridge (stripped down version of bridge) and we got to play in class. One of the maths teachers in our year was a pretty big deal on the UK bridge circuit, so he taught us. 2nd week me and my friends has a mini-bridge cash game going in class - it got shut down pretty quick. |

I always played card games and stuff but never for money and never a poker variety until my last year in high school. I went on a science trip with ap students to check out different universities and their facilities. The trip obviously was nerdy but ended up being fun when one of the kids wanted to play poker. I had never played and didn't want to lose any money but he said that all I needed was $3-5 in change and it wasn't that big a deal cause we would play 5cent blinds. Anyways, we played 3handed Hi/Lo omaha and i somehow won $11 in an hour or two, all their change and they both quit me complaining I hustled them. I did not play poker again for another year. |

Dad brought me to Turkey when I was 11, that's 18 years ago or so. I remember he was looking to buy all kinds of leather stuff, suit cases, valets so forth. And he was haggling with prices and stuff, I wasn't really paying attention, but I remembered the conversation. Anyway, we go through the basars, and just as we're to leave, I notice something, I see this crocodile thing sale, from a small bode, my dad is out of vision, I yell, 2 sec, I run over, and I buy what I heard he had been asking for earlier, then I hid it. (Saw it as a big gamble, because it cos fuckloads, like, 20 icecreams or so.)
Later when evening came, he started drinking. (He does that in the weekends and on holliday.) And I told him I have a surprise for him, told him I rescued a little girl at the beach, and her dad gave me this!!
And I showed him the valet, his eyes lit up, he got eager and wanted ti buy it, I sold it, for around x5 profit. In the morning, I took it back, and he had no idea. Then I sold it again like 5 times that holliday, made a huge profit.
Not sure if it's gambling, but kinda felt like at the time. |

When i was around 10 i play a some kind of slot machine with my younger brother. It was a the boat from Sweden to Finland. It wasnt a normal slot machine, you placed a 5 MK (which was the currency before € in finland) in a little hole on the side of the machine. Then you hit a bottom next to hit, the harder you hit, the faster the coin flew. Like a pinballmachine.
There were like 5 "baskets" you chould hit w/ ur coin. 10 20 25 50 and bonus. The first time we play me and my brother won around 100 MK. We were sure we could be millionaires by playing that machine. The year after we won like 100 MK more on the same machine but now we had a hard time finding it. And i still think something was wrong w/ it because it paid out so good, and they only had it for 2 years.
Good times... |

Is there any country that didnt have pogs? jesus christ that guy who invented that must be filthy rich. Anyways I always used to gamble on football games, sort of a lottery, so I was like 11 or some shit and me and a couple of friends decided we are gonna win bigtime so we pooled all our money together to get more options and failed horribly and got 1 game short of even making a little bit back, and from that day on I proceeded to run terribly in that form of gambling, always coming close to winning but not quite :/ |
