probably something like 10k, substantial enough for most people I would estimate.

I dont see why anyone would refuse 5k, but the problem with offering 5k is that some random asshole might refuse, people are stupid - i think i stick with my 15k, its a ridicilous amount of money to refuse
If you were in the other side, would you refuse 5k?
The issue is that if you refuse the 5k, that means that your 5k plus another 45k go to charity. If you're down with taking 50k out of a charity's pocket so you can keep 5k for yourself that's fine, but isn't this the situation we are facing here?

excactly - this is the critical point imo...
I mean - can person b choose the charity in question? or is it a random charity? Do the contestants know what charity it is?
I'd prolly offer something between 10-20k with no info on the other guy and the charity.

If you offer him too little, he might just go "fuck off asshole, this is going to charity, i don't care about the little ammount of money you offered me". Keep in mind the contestant knows hes on TV, and by refusing, he will look like an hero on Tv which is nice.

No, a hero would say fuck you and give the 50k to charity. By taking the money you're announcing that you're his bitch and are grateful for anything he chooses to give you.

and i'd probably take 5k, i don't really believe in charities because i think if everyone would just help the few people around themselves everything would be okay

The question should be your yearly income instead of 50k.
Or your life income, see how much of an angel you all are when you get offered a year of work or your entire life wages to a charity.

that's your perspective. I could just as easily say if you refuse $1 you're an idiot and I'd rather have $1 for myself than 50k for charity. Denying 50k to a charity so you can keep 5k has little to do with intelligence so the use of the word idiot is hardly relevant.

the 50k is going to charity whether you accept the 1$ or not.
The other guy who on average makes 35k a year.
Getting by giving, that's trading.
Getting without giving, that's charity.
The game show contestants are already charities.
So refusing charity yourself so another charity gets it, well that's charitable.
