Impressed by Formiga. He capitalized on Zach's mistakes and did great.

----------

The rest of the card is on Fox Sports 1, so I'll be watching the rest on TV.

----------

Nice finish by Thiago Tavares. Props to him for improving his English too.

Sick comeback by Tim Boetsch! I almost tilted away a ton of money on Brad Tavares during round 1 live bet.

----------

GG Maynard, time to retire.

Good win for Bader. It puts him on a 3-fight win streak and it ended the hype train that was OSP.

Bader's last 3 fights have been decision wins via wrestling. Looks like that loss to Teixeira helped him remember what he was good at, and to stop looking for the KO on the feet in every fight.

Happy about my bet on Jordan. Besides being on the receiving end of that flurry of about a minute he looked pretty good. When he needed them the takedowns came easy. Boetsch +190 line was clearly a bad bet but luckily it was a small one.

I ended up betting $40 on Maynard too +160. He actually looked good for large portions of the fight sad to see him lose by KO again. He was fast, strong, good technique, good head movement. His hands were low but it wasn't due to lack of effort or stamina he definitely wanted to fight that way, which allowed for some really smooth darting in and out. Still throughout the fight it felt like at some point Pearson would catch him once and it would be game over. Might be worth hanging up the gloves when that starts being the case. Ideally they had given him some low ranked fighter to build back up.

Lol... I've never lost money (not much because my Formiga bet came through) and still felt more like I would bet the exact same way if they ran it back.

Shawn Jordan is AWFUL. There is not a single top 20 HW I would have him at better than +200 against, I just glanced at the top 15 and he would be a lock to lose to every single one. Jack May wins that fight if he just keeps his distance, it's so simple yet he didn't do it.

I hope they feed him to the Black Beast Derrick Lewis who isn't even top 15 yet - he will get smashed. I clearly dislike Shawn Jordan but his wins are all so meh, just get your ass beat (even against Mike Russow!), finally get a TD and pound out a gassed opponent with weak GnP.

Maynard should absolutely retire.

That's nuts. Either HW is a lot weaker than you think, or Shawn Jordan is better.

Shawn Jordan isn't good. Jack May just proved that he doesn't belong in the UFC.

Here's a list of the current heavyweights on the roster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_...s_.28265_lb.2C_120_kg.29:_37_fighters

The list should come with an asterisk, as Big Nog most likely won't fight again in the UFC, and nobody knows if Frank Mir will get another shot. Fabio Maldonado is also on the list, however, he won't ever fight at heavyweight again and only took the short notice fight against Stipe Miocic at heavyweight since it allowed him to headline a card in his home country. People like Ruan Potts and Guto Inocente will be cut after their next fights, which will most likely be losses.

If we fast forward to January 2015, I expect to see at least 5 of the current names removed from that heavyweight list.

It's neither, I agree that HW is incredibly weak, thats my point. Shawn Jordan's wins have proved nothing. I'm glad you won money on the bet but that doesn't change the fact that he was getting tuned up on the feet, got some well-timed and inexplicably easy takedowns (May is just an idiot and let him get inside on his 6'7 frame) and than GnP'd a guy who quit. Watch the Mike Russow fight, exact same deal except even more exaggerated in both aspects (he got detroyed on the feet by an awful striker, and than got the TD and Russow basically tapped via gas)

Shawn Jordan's winning strategy (obv not on purpose) is, gas opponents by literally taking massive damage because he is very durable - barely escape getting finished - and than get a takedown and finish a gassed, terrible heavyweight with lame and weak GnP. I say weak because the strikes wouldn't even put out welterweights, they just keep coming and the other guy is too gassed to move.

If you want to see real HW GnP by a not great fighter, watch the Black Beasts mauling of Jack May on the Browne vs Verdum fightpass prelims. That is impressive.

I disagree with Jack May not belonging in the UFC only because HW is SO weak, and he actually could be a decent prospect if he learns TD defense and can improve his cardio. I know those are big IF's but he's a kickboxer just getting his feet wet and almost finished Shawn Jordan. I agree he's raw and shitty right now for those reasons, but I guarantee you they will not cut him. HW is just so thin that relatively speaking, with his ceiling, he does belong in the UFC. Especially when they get rid of the Mir, Big Nog, Maldonado (back to LHW), Potts, and Inocente.

Bader broke hand during OSP fight camp

A number of fans expressed the wish that Ryan Bader had used his hands more and his wrestling less in the winning performance vs. Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Fight Night 47 last Saturday.

It turns out, Bader broke his hand during fight camp.

"[The broken hand] does mess with you in camp," said Bader to José Youngs for ArizonaSports.com. "I couldn't really grapple for four weeks so it did mess with me a little bit. But I put in the work, and I wasn't going to pull out of a main event slot. In the fight it felt fine, I could throw it and it held up. The only issue was being in camp and not being able to do what I wanted to do."

"I hadn't fought a southpaw since Nogueira, which was four or five years ago. Not only that but he's very long, one of the longer guys out there. So for me, I knew I had to definitely improvise a little bit. I felt flat, so I had to rely a little more on my takedowns."

Youngs provided some further details, via Twitter.

"Update on Bader's hand injury: Bader fractured his hand 5 weeks ago in the same spot he broke it during the Perosh fight last December," wrote Youngs. "Worked out for a week before injury limited him to one hand. Also wasn't able to do any wrestling or grappling for 5 weeks. During the fight he had to work around the injury since he couldn't throw his right hand."

Bader's manager Dave Martin confirmed the injury, in an interview with Duane Finley for B/R.

"Ryan did injure his hand in a sparring session several weeks out from the fight," said Maritn. "He wanted to push through and fight, so he decided to use a removable cast on his hand, which pretty much eliminated his ability to use it in the final weeks of his camp. He was still able to train and keep his conditioning up but wasn't able to spar in the final few weeks of his camp. That said, he still went out there, fought a great fight and picked up a big win.

"The great thing is that this injury will not require surgery and he's going to take some time off to allow some other nagging injuries to heal up. His wife is going to have their third child any day now, and he obviously needs some time to allow his body to heal and enjoy his personal life before he jumps back into the Octagon."

That's pretty crazy. I've heard of guys training and fighting through injuries but broken bones in your hand is a new one. Can't you do permanent damage by punching with a broken hand I wonder how bad it can get.

Dunno how it feels to fight with a broken/fractured hand, but I usually have to sit down and stop moving when I stub my toe.

The win works out perfectly for Bader though. His wife is about to give birth and he'll be able to take up to a year off to heal his injuries if needed. He's on a 3-fight win streak and the division is kind of clogged up at the top with Jones/Cormier being pushed back till January, and there will be an automatic rematch if Cormier wins. After that, Gus is supposed to fight for the title.

Anyway, Bader is lucky everything worked out well for him.

Also, I hope Cormier beats Jones, just so they can rematch and leave Gus feeling like an idiot for pulling a Rashad and sitting out almost 1.5 years waiting for a title shot.
