It's been a while since our last high stakes report, so we decided to make some sort of overview of the first 8 months of this year. From January to September 1st, a lot of money has changed hands and we've seen A LOT of swings on the tables. It looks like the highest stakes don't need Guy Laliberté to get some action going, as we can see big names in both the winners and losers' sides.

High Stakes Online Poker Results (All sites, All Gametypes, 2009-01-01 to 2009-09-01), the winners :

 • Patrik Antonius $3.600.418,17 - 115537 hands
 • Cole South $2.889.242,25 - 28740 hands
 • theASHMAN103 $2.369.059,09 - 34372 hands
 • Ziigmund $2.319.792,88 - 60277 hands
 • trex313 $2.039.564,62 - 76133 hands
 • Mark Vos $2.029.544,30 - 12884 hands
 • Richard Ashby $1.874.298,00 - 56797 hands
 • POKERBLUFFS $1.194.406,90 - 11821 hands
 • John Juanda $1.154.749,75 - 12183 hands
 • Brian Townsend $1.091.340,15 - 21363 hands

Must be great being Patrik Antonius. After he won around $1.9 million last year, he's doing even better this year. Aqcuiring $3.6 million, he's well ahead of the other big winners. He has already played more than he did in the entire last year, and with that comes great reward.

On the second place we find Cole "CTS" South, who is working on quite a comeback after many months of absence from the highest stakes. He has not been playing as many hands as Antonius, but when he played, he played well regarding his much higher winrate. A winrate that is only beaten by Mark Vos, who cashed in over 2 million dollar in just 12,884 hands! That means he earns himself on average $155 for every hand he played! Other notable winning players include Ziigmund, Richard Ashby (a red pro on Full Tilt, not to be confused with Rick Astley...), John Juanda and Brian Townsend (sbrugby), who is also making a bit of a comeback this year.

Not making the top 10 list was a bit unusual for Phil Ivey. However, when we look one place further, on the 11th place we see him winning $1.076.164,78 in 77835 hands. Not as much as the $7.5 million he won last year, but still, winning a million dollars can't be bad.

Money like this doesn't fall out of the sky, it comes from the losers:

 • LarsLuzak $-3.474.418,21 - 109889 hands
 • Gus Hansen $-2.179.023,68 - 185009 hands
 • DIN_FRU $-1.289.780,70 - 78110 hands
 • papa ninja $-1.245.031,65 - 4766 hands
 • KObyTAPOUT $-1.104.791,95 - 8595 hands
 • ahtata $-971.744,05 - 7115 hands
 • martonas $-782.664,24 - 36977 hands
 • MR B 2 U SON $-731.128,76 - 26657 hands
 • HarrisMP $-704.100,35 - 33052 hands
 • world1969 $-674.313,10 - 5067 hands

Losing almost as much as Antonius is winning this year in about as much hands as Antonius, Sami "LarsLuzak" Kelopuro is trying to make sure the money coming in to Finland is about the same as the money going out. It doesn't look very good for Sami, as he's even losing more than Gus Hansen. Gus' story is a bit strange as he was up $2.8 million in January, yet he lost it all and more, and he's now down -$2.179.023,68!

The third biggest loser is DIN_FRU, who is said to be Erik Sagstrom (aka "Erik123", "The Salmon" or the "King of Ding". Another interesting player in this list is martonas. He was one of the key players in (one of) the biggest session online this year, where he ended up experiencing the huge swings that come with playing at these high limits. In the end he's lost $782.664,24 so far and we'll have to wait and see how many more hands he's gonna play this year.

So where's Tom "durrrr" Dwan you might think? He's down $510.162,99 in 178,372 hands, which might sound bad, but actually is not that bad considering he was down almost $3.3 million in January! With durrrr you never know what the future is gonna bring, he might end up being one of the biggest winners, or as one of the biggest losers.

That is since March 21st 2008 instead of January 1st 2009, and Hold'em only. For example Highstakesdb.com also covers the HORSE and Omaha and Mixed HA games.

OMGClayAiken +$90.636,18 after 65,146 hands. He lost 2.7 million in PLO and wins 2.2 in Mixed HA (Holdem + Omaha High). Like 80% of his hands were played in those 2 variants

Gus Hansen finally moved down in limites it seems as low as 50/100... his donations will be missed in 500/1000

What stake does Patrick Antonius usually play? I'm curious which player has the highest bb/100, and what that bb/100 is.

surely the sample size here isn't big enough for that to have any real meaning at all

doesn't matter, I want a ballpark figure. it doesn't have to be based off the sample size either.
