The $200,000 bet with Daniel Negreanu that one of them pays the other when the other wins a bracelet is known amongst many players. However, there is a lot more at stake here!

Phil Ivey and Howard Lederer, both wealthy pokerplayers, thanks to pokerwinnings and for example their part in the Full Tilt Poker business. Neither of them is particularly hurt by the financial crisis it seems, because they made an insane bet of $5,000,000 !

The rules are pretty simple: if Phil Ivey wins at least two gold WSOP bracelets in the next three WSOP years (meaning 2009-2011, so including the current year), he wins the bet and collects the 5 million! If he doesn't, Lederer receives the same amount paid by Ivey. However, if this second bracelet is obtained during the World Series of Poker Europe, they call it a tie and neither has to pay. So in other words, Ivey is offering 1:1 odds on this bet that he makes at least 2 bracelets during 3 WSOP years. Before this World Series, he already had 5 bracelets, however the last one dated from 2005.

This year Ivey is doing much better as he has already won 2 bracelets so far. According to rumors, the bet was made before Phil Ivey won his second bracelet this year and after he won his first bracelet of 2009. This means he still has plenty of tournaments left this year, and two more years to win just one more gold bracelet to cash the 5 million! A highly motivated Phil Ivey will surely have no problem winning the next one within almost 3 years time!

well it's not like people win these things daily, so technically it wasn't retarded but the more important thing is the headlines and news it gets for FTP

I have learned from poker that being at the table is not a grind, the grind is living and poker is how I pass the time

That's a insane amount to bet. Either Lederer knows something we don't or he just got swindled!

Raise me and die.

Gold braclet = winning a WSOP event in Las Vegas, Silver braclet = europe I beleive

Considering the timing of the bet, it probably went somewhat like this :

Phil Ivey - lol, just won an event, ship it. bracelets are so easy !
Lederer - lol, no they aren't
Phil Ivey - yes they are
Lederer - lol, no
Phil Ivey - kk, wanna bet ?
Lederer - lol sure, what terms ?
Phil Ivey - i can win 2 more in the next 3 years (haha this is so easy)
Lederer - (lolnoob, it just took him 5 years to win a new one) lol you're so on
Phil Ivey - $1 Mil ?
Lederer - (took him 5 years to win 2 last time) lol make it $5M, you scared money or what ?
Phil Ivey - olol kk gogo

Some days later

Phil Ivey - oops, I did it again
Lederer - (fucking noob luckbox sick life can't believe it) nice, gg !

Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand.Last edit: 19/06/2009 21:08
