The biggest game in poker history was reborn last weekend as millionaire and one of the most well known high stakes players, Andy Beal, made his return to Las Vegas. If you don't know Andy Beal, he is a legend: over a decade ago he decided to play against a team of professional poker players called "The Corporation" which included Todd Brunson, Doyle Brunson, Jennifer Harman, Ted Forrest, Gus Hansen, Howard Lederer and Phil Ivey, all being considered absolute best of the best at that time.
The game of his choice was Limit Hold'em, heads-up. Beal had a simple plan - he wanted the stakes to be as high as possible, so the money affects the play of the poker pros. There were multiple matches, including a super famous 2004 loss of $16 million to Phil Ivey. In the end, poker professionals came out victorious and Beal promised to give up poker.
However, last weekend he was spotted in Bobby's Room playing heads-up Hold'em Limit against Todd Brunson, with Doyle watching the game. The stakes were apparently $50,000/$100,000. After eight hours of play, that started at 7am as Beal requested, Brunson is reported to have won around $5,000,000.
Todd Brunon confirmed the win and commented that he celebrated in usual matter: "We came to a nice steak house without a reservation. Big line. They asked if we were celebrating anything. I said yes I won 5 mil yesterday".
