effective stacks ~350 i think

i raise Kd Jd to 15 in late position and we see a flop 5 handed

Flop: 8d Jh Qd

decent flop. i cbet 55 and i get 1 caller from the big blind who's got about 300 behind after the call.

Turn: Ks

i felt that this card was kind of tricky. i have a decent hand but i'm not exactly ecstatic about putting 300 more bucks in on this card.

since villain is an unknown at live 1/2 and therefore probably a huge fish, i go ahead and bet $120 and call his shove. he turns over 9d Td and i don't hit my 11 outs on the river.

probably a standard bet/call spot against randoms and i don't doubt my play at all given all the information i had.

the question that lingered in my head was whether or not i could ever check this back against certain players who rarely have anything to pay me off with on the turn, but could really put me in a shitty spot with a check-raise i guess if they were somewhat aggro/competent i could maybe go ahead and bet/call? what if i had KJo, even though i probably check flop a lot? could i ever check it back here? i'm pretty sure i'm checking back hands like AA or AK a lot vs competent/aggro/non-stations.

then again, it could just be a standard bet/call/cooler/move on spot against everyone. i dunno...

why do you say how much you bet on the flop, and his stack size
but not what you raised PF?

Also this is 1/2 live

It seems to be it would be fiscally irresponsible to not get the money in ASAP.

On the turn as played he should have QJ, Q8s and J8s in his range, as well as maybe the offsuit versions since this is live. But I don't see any reason to bet more than 2/3 pot.

I think the more interesting discussion would be on checking the flop. You do dominate most draws and want to get money in vs them, but you really don't wanna get check-raised by someone in the blinds, forcing weaker draws to fold, and you to get it in deep with whats usually the naked 2nd NFD as outs. As much as you wanna pump up the pot with such a pretty hand vs fish, 5-ways someone is gonna have the nuts, a set, or top 2 here alot and repop you, so I think a check is better, let those weaker draws see the turn.

5 ways to the flop you should treat this the same as having K8dd on 8xJdQd, or even K2dd. Your pair isn't worth much.

You cbet 55? this is 1/2 what the hell is the preflop action? I think if you're concerned about pot control this is a flop check in position 100%. If you're going to take an aggressive line then there's no way you can slow down and check back the turn. Did you just hope to bet 55 and have everyone fold? There are so many worse hands he can have and still call with that it isn't even worth listing. Plus we lose action vs. those low hands on a 9,T,A river. Even when we're behind here we're going to have 11-13 outs most of the time which makes the decision to go with it that much easier.
